  • This is a step-by-step video about how to grow a mango tree from seed. Learn how to germinate mango seeds fast, how to open a mango pit and what your mango tree should look like in just 2 months.
    I started germinating this mango seed in mid April. It was left to germinate in the bag for a month. Once planted, it started taking off and this is what it looks like after another month's worth of growth.

    You did a great video. I love your voice. You speak to us with respect. Thank you for that. I gew a tree years ago in my neighbor's yard because I knew we'd be selling our house. It took about three years to get small manos, then all of a sudden the tree shot up and by five years it was tall and full of beautiful mangos. It's been 9 years now and I think it's the most beautiful tree ever. My neighbor Dave just brought me seven beautiful fruit. Every year. I love to see it in bloom. Making chutney and putting it on salads is my favorite. You explained this very well. I wanted to make sure that I remembered. I just cut my seed out. Thanks again. Nicely done.

    If you plant a polyembryonic seed it will give you mangos that are the same as the fruit out got it out of, the one you showed there is a monoembryonic seed and it may give you somthing good or it may not, plus the polyembryonic varieties will fruit in as little as 2 years up 5 years but the monoembryonic varieties can take 10 years. You can graft a scion to the one you have there from a variety you like.

    Vesma P, thank you for this super informative video. My wife is from Philippines, so we are mango fanatics - I have planted lots of mangos, but they always expire right about the 3 month time period - right about how your two month tree looks in this video. Mangoes grow like weeds in Philippines, but I think our desert climate here gets too cold at night after about September for them to thrive here too long.

      What's the sweetest varieties yall have tried? I'm already thinking about how I'm going to care for it come fall/winter. I'm determined to keep it alive. The seeds I've grown in the past never really made it past the two leaf stage (probably because I tried to keep it indoors).

    First off, great video! This is my second attempt at growing a mango tree. The first time, I followed the exact same steps and my plant grew well initially, pushing out leaves. However, each time new leaves sprouted, the old ones dried up and fell off. Eventually, I noticed the stem turning black. I had been growing it indoors in Canada at a constant 74°F, but I'm thinking maybe the humidity was too low? I suspect I may have overwatered it as well.
    This time around, I'll be more mindful of the watering schedule. My goal isn't to grow a full tree, but having a mango plant brings a bit of home to me. Any tips to improve my approach this time would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again.

    • @vesgardens

      I plant them in their own containers. I've read if you want to plant them in ground they should be 10 feet apart. My tree did not survive the winter, so yes, bring it inside. Just make sure they good light for at least 6 hours, needs to be in well-draining soil, water when soil is dry. You can get small humidifiers for humidity.

    I have one that has a polyembryonic seed. Won't these have one stalk that is an exact replica of the mother plant? Shouldn't this be a high quality plant?
    After a few days, it has sticky white stuff all over it and the paper towel has brown spots on it. What the hell is this?

    • @vesgardens
      @vesgardens  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Polyembryonic seeds produce clones. So if it was a good mango, I would assume it would be high quality given you're caring for it properly too. The sticky stuff and brown spots sound like mold. If the seed is still good, I would just clean it off and change the paper towel.

      What's turning brown? The seed or tree? Usually brown is a sign of rot. Maybe there's too much moisture?
