    I know this is an old video but one note, always remove your fill plug first. You don't want to drain the fluid and not be able to remove that plug to fill it back up.

    Lay the gasket on a piece of newspaper and spray the adhesive on the gasket, not on the differential cover. Also, lose the music. Good tip regarding making sure the plug is removable before starting the job.

    gasket optional, using copper rtv sealant and almost fully tightening the bolts you wait a day and come back to tighten them fully but don't over tighten, also sealant goes around the bolts not just the inside as this prevents oil from leaking around a nut over time, never had leak issues doing this
    works for most outer parts as long as there's no fuel involved or close moving parts tolerances that need the gasket as a spacer like on engine cases for motorcycles

      @deplorableharley หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the diff is "limited slip" or "posi-trac" then yes, put in the additive. If a regular diff, no need. My F350 is a regular diff while my F150 is LS

      As long as you put it in the first quart you are good. If you have a LSD if not you don't need it. Thanks for watching!

      If you HAVE an LSD you DO need it. Hence, LSD additive. The clutch packs need it.

    my only suggestion, any time using a product like rtv or silicone gasket maker you should give the silicone adhesive adequate amount of time to dry. You don't want to allow the fluid to come into contact with the rtv, the different chemical properties will not allow the rtv to adhere to it's proper effectiveness. Other than that great video.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your comment. I agree to let the silicone to dry but in all honesty you could put the gasket on there with no silicone and it would be fine. Also doing a thin bead of silicone rubber allows it to dry faster enough for after finishing the repair to fill the rear end with fluid. Our car in video is a family vehicle with over 25k miles after the repair with no problems. We use the silicone rubber just for an added security. Thank you for watching and please subscribe!

      +2CarPros 25k miles is decent, but how bout a follow up? Many tips work fine for some time, but dont compete with the best solution for many more miles. This is especially because you didn't say what silicone you used, nor what gasket you used exactly. Also, what if you only use RTV with no gasket? I have used RTV this way with good results, but again, like you, wasn't long term; it was 15k miles.

    Thank you for the video! I am doing this job now waiting for my gear oil to drain. I've researched a lot of threads and videos saying not to use rtv sealant with the fel-pro gasket, just to use one or the other. I'm wondering why you opted not to use the rtv on both sides of the gasket as the oil will reach the adhesive side also. Not judging just torn on if I want to use just rtv or just a fel pro gasket as I purchased both.

      @@2carpros I watched that one also. I ended up doing it that way with the rtv but with just a thin finger coat of the rtv Gear rtv 81182 on both sides of gasket. I just couldn't see why not add a little more protection. Thanks for the help, have a good one! 👍

      Yeah, I'm new to the 6.0 but never heard of adding RTV to a gasket. Now I'm over here doubting myself. I didn't use RTV or spray on mine and it's holding up fine. I think the whole point of using a gasket is to not have a mess to clean up the next time around. Seems like it defeats the purpose but I guess time will tell.

    What kinda of spray adhesive and caulking did you use? And was that necessary? I'm changing my rear pinion seal this weekend along with the differential fluid I'm going to follow these steps for the fluid change and just wanted to make sure I was doing everything correctly.
