A sad ending to a great turning. As Huw mentioned I also could hear danger in the near future the closer you got to finishing it. Keep at it and the next one will be a winner! Gary
Agreed. I was chasing the save almost from the beginning. Could have left it thicker but I was determined it was going to be a thin one. Someday I’ll start listening to what I hear and see instead of forcing my ideas. Thanks for watching.
Theres always a few options to save a piece when something like this happens, doesn't make it any less heartbreaking though! Win some, you lose some, it's just the way she goes. Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely! I could have easily saved this one but I let myself get overly emotional on this one and it’s splinters now. No problem. The raw material grows on trees. 😄
@@DougMilleratWoodSpunRound Yeah, that happens too! The last one I lost my cool with got sent up the creek to pastures new. I'd like to think it's now some water creatures daily driver 😂
I was thinking earlier I could have saved it. Unfortunately I let my initial reaction take control and I broke it even further. I’ve got more walnut. Thanks for watching.
I love working with Walnut! I have way to much of it right now lol. I've been seeing a lot more people using the coffee grounds lately. May have to try one of these live edge pieces at some point. Always enjoy your videos.
Thanks for watching Chris. I have a bit of walnut myself. Love the stuff. This was going to be a pretty one. But it wasn’t to be. The next one will be a looker I’m sure.
What a great shame Doug but I did start to wonder when you were tightening the tailstock and the tone changed if it might not end up getting finished. Take care Doug. Cheers, Huw
You’re exactly right. Part of the tone change was the added friction each time I tightened. Between the worm trail and getting too thin in the center with no support, it had no choice but to let go. Thanks for watching.
Yeah, but remember in the beginning I had a suspicion this one might not make it. Have to admit I made a mistake or two as well. Thanks for watching. We’ll get into another one soon.
It looked so long as if this was going to be a victory. Too bad but I must agree with Huw & Gary that you could hear this coming. However, the bottom might have been too thin already. Better next time! 😎
Thanks. It does happen once in a while. Between the worm trail and turning too thin it didn’t have a chance. I do appreciate you taking the time to watch. Well do it again soon.
Very good question, but it was for sure a worm trail. It left a weak area in the wood that when I got too much pressure on it gave way. My only regret is only that I didn’t immediately think about how to save it. Would have been easy. But I my first thought was to destroy the evidence. No problem, I have more walnut and suspect the next one will come out great. Thanks for watching.
Both. Had thought earlier to just round over the tenon in the center of the recess. I got it thin removing the tenon over the worm trail. Thanks for watching.
Very nice
At least it was. Thanks for watching.

What a bummer, Doug! It was looking great!
Thank you Billy. I had a thought as I started that it might not make it to the end. Good thing this stuff grows on trees. 🤣

It was looking good Doug. All the way to the end. You could get an insert clock and mount it in the middle.
I was thinking earlier I could have saved it. Unfortunately I let my initial reaction take control and I broke it even further. I’ve got more walnut. Thanks for watching.
That was looking great. Shame about the outcome, but always great to push ourselves too and see how close to the limit we can get
Thank you Jiggsy.

By the way glad to see I'm not the only one this stuff happens too.

Try and salvage it Doug , I had the same mishap and fit a new base it looked ok
All the best
Yiannis
This one went to fire wood immediately. Could have Ben saved though. 😞
Always love turning walnut but not the week after of bad sinuses. The look is worth it though.
Thank you!
Unlucky Doug! I'm not going to say anything else just in case I fore shadow something myself!!
Bad piece of wood from the beginning. Nearly got by with it though. Thanks for watching.
That was beautiful… Ouch.
Oh eh word “was”. Thank you!

Dang that sucks it was looking so cool

No doubt about it. Thanks for watching Leo n
Oh, no! A sad ending for what was going to be a beautiful piece. Love that walnut.

Thanks. It does happen once in a while. Between the worm trail and turning too thin it didn’t have a chance. I do appreciate you taking the time to watch. Well do it again soon.
Was that really a worm trail, or was it the pith?
Very good question, but it was for sure a worm trail. It left a weak area in the wood that when I got too much pressure on it gave way. My only regret is only that I didn’t immediately think about how to save it. Would have been easy. But I my first thought was to destroy the evidence. Was it the crack or just too thin🙃🙁
Both. Had thought earlier to just round over the tenon in the center of the recess. I got it thin removing the tenon over the worm trail. Thanks for watching.
Walnut is beautiful. Too bad, but maybe it can be used for something else. 😊
Thank you. Unfortunately I let my immediate emotions take over for a moment. It’s now fire starter. I do appreciate you watching.
