That was the first thing that struck me about her in the QLC days - she was very thoughtful about the structure of her set, surprisingly mature as a comic.
I’m a 64 yo man, probably not Taylor’s main demographic, needed to fill an hour before going to bed so I hit the stand up section on Netflix and as I was scrolling a clip for “Have it All” came on and I cracked up so I watched it. Since then I have seen all of her specials, even told my sister about Taylor. To have so much talent at such a young age, I can only imagine the hard work and repetition it took to get there and it makes it all the more impressive. Super funny person!
This. I'm an older guy and to listen to her stand up is not just funny as hell, but helps me to understand the things people are experiencing and dealing with today. She is smart, hilariously funny, and deeply insightful. It's a bridge between my life experience and the generation of younger adults.
60 year old guy. I grew up listening to Carlin and Pryor, I know great comedy when I hear it. Her material, timing, body language and facial expressions are spot on. I think she is probably the best female in comedy right now. Male comedians talk about different things, i.e. Bill Burr/Ron White. I hope Taylor has a LONG career.
I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but it’s like we’re watching her grow up. I didn’t think it would get any better than Look at You and then Have it All came out. She just keeps getting better and better and watching her get more and more comfortable on After Midnight and really own that is extremely special. Congratulations, Taylor! The taking your SO to meet your parents is one of my favorite bits along with with the like throwing a brick through a window and in Look at You when she was talking about a therapist connecting all your childhood traumas…that one is probably my fave.
It is fascinating to see how her stagecraft has developed over the years. I predict that she will soon start using the mic for emphasis, Bill Hicks style.
I honestly love her as a human. Flawed, honest about it, works on herself, talented, humble, relatable and immensely entertaining to watch. She earned those Pink Flames!
For me the werewolf joke and the chocolate covered raisins joke are simply superior treasures and I cannot help myself but play them over and over again at youtube. Thank you for making me laugh when I need it the most.
A line of @TaylorTomlinson jackets would slay, right? Replicas of all her known jackets and new designs! I adore her style. Her stylist could participate in the process.
Quarter Life Crisis was one of the highlights of the pandemic for me. I've watched it probably 4 times and have told everyone I know to watch it. Love her work and am thrilled for her for the success she's having. Go Taylor!
For me, her best joke by far and away is the one that starts with " Oh, don’t start crying now. It’s too late and too early." and ends with "I just need a project, mother**ker!" The way she does that bit where she grabs her imaginary fiance face is just too good.
Another aspect I noticed about Taylor's specials is that each stage blends very well not only with her jackets, but also with the respective themes. The lights on "Quarter-Life Crisis" have a nice balance between the background's dark tone and the very bright lamp following Taylor, so they sell the idea of the special being an "introduction" to her body of work; on "Look at You", the stage is even emptier and darker, only lit up by a series of small lamps, which was likely intended as a symbol of vulnerability and candidness; on "Have It All", the stage is much more brighter and colorful, so it lets you know that Taylor is taking a sort of a "victory lap", even if she's still figuring out a lot of things about her life. I think this shows how the work of everyone behind the curtains, whether it's in a movie, a play, a special or something else, can help you get your jokes and messages across even more effectively!
The panic attack and going to the hospital over anxiety bit in Have It All is something I go back to for comfort when I'm having a panic attack. I'm really happy for the success she's having. I remember thinking she was hilarious on her first Conan set.
it's cute to see the jackets mirror her own journey of coming into her own, where it starts as a plain black regular jacket she wore to the airport and she gradually becomes more comfy and confident until she's wearing pink flames. also interesting that color only comes in after therapy. good for you, girl.
omg so true! I didn't realise I was wearing mostly black for years until I figured stuff out in therapy and since then I am getting my bright coloured clothes back I used to wear before trauma hit!
How is she simultaneously so crass, yet so wholesome? I hope her star continues to rise, because I'm loving every second of this! After Midnight's great, Taylor! You rock! 🥰
Best comedian I have ever watched, has great timing, relevant material, millions of unique expressions, and confidence. I enjoy good clean humor and Taylor, you have it all. Good luck and enjoy life, you deserve it.
I introduced your stuff to my manager, who showed it to her daughter who in turn showed it to a bunch of her Gen Z friends who now follow you 😂. You are amazing and the fact that we are the same and age and have identical childhoods helps my inner child heal so thank you ❤
It's interesting how much I love Taylor's work, considering my demographic and personal experiences are so far removed from hers. I have loving supportive parents- both still alive. I'm a generation older (though of course lived through my 20s as well- 20+ years ago). I'm a straight man, not a bi woman. She talks a lot in this interview about all the people who have come to her telling her how much they relate to her jokes and stories: "That's just like me! I thought I was the only one!" which clearly she did too, until those people opened up to her- after she opened up to them. Sharing one's shared experiences- knowing that you're not alone: that can be a very powerful consequence of good comedy! But the way she crafts her jokes, makes even me- someone who does not personally relate- relate to her situation. And that is another powerful consequence of good comedy: opening up your audience to empathy. I consider myself a fairly empathetic person already; I try to be, at any rate. And comedy can be a great way to share yourself, because it's disarming. Black people can tell jokes that allow their fellow black people to say, "yes, that's true!" and also allow white people to say, "Is that true, I had no idea that was your experience" in a safe atmosphere. Gay people can tell their stories: other gay people will agree, and straight people will be informed. Women can talk about their dating experiences, or their traumas, and other women can say "Me too; I've been there" and straight men can say, "Is that what it's like? I've never thought about it that way, before!" Someone with Bipolar Disorder can talk about "arm floaties," and other bipolar people can use that metaphor in their own lives, therapists can use it with their patients, people without bipolar- those folks floating on their own back- can understand that while they can float maybe some others need floaties, and that's okay, too. Comedy can be a powerful, powerful tool for communication! Beyond "just" making us laugh- which is also tremendously good for our mental and physical health, just all on its own- the power of comedy to bring like people together, and also bring non-like people together: that's so awesome. I don't know if Taylor quite knows how much her comedy has shaped some people. Maybe she does; I hope she does (without getting self-conscious about it) understand how her voice is a powerful one. Keep on keepin' on, Taylor!!
I watched Taylor's newest special Have it All when I was having a lot of health problems and could not look at screens and was struggling in a lot of other ways so being able to listen to her specials was really helpful and really helped me during that time I listened to it a few times and it helped me a lot. The first thing I did when I was able to look at screens again was watch the special as well as listen. I also binged After Midnight every single day for a week while laying down with my eyes closed and it helped me get through those rough days where I really couldn't do anything besides lay down with my eyes closed.
She is my favourite comedian in my generation and I feel happy to be living in her beginnings and continue journey. Josh Johnson is my second fav. ❤ adore you Taylor. So happy for all your success and I hope you continue to be humble and kick ass. Don't doubt yourself you are very talented, relatable and skilled. Can't wait till I live in the US so I can see her show. Because I've probably seen most if not all her online standup videos over the years.
There are two of my favorite comics too. I also absolutely love Sarah Millican (from England) and Steve Hofstetter. I figure if we have the same taste you might want to check out those two as well.
"This is what I've been chasing for the last seven years" I really liked that joke, but I'm glad she's still writing new material because she's had some bangers ever since then (that I enjoyed even more).
The very first time I saw Taylor was the condom/Halloween costume joke. It wasn't from the Netflix special, it was a 5 minute set somewhere. Instantly became a fan: "You can't even SEE it!" hilarious!
I just want to thank all the people who go to stand up at clubs so that people like Taylor can develop their craft based on responses and give us a banger of a Netflix special. We don't have that culture in my country so it's nice we get to enjoy you guy's work
I cannot count how many times I have re-watched all of her specials in full, and I constantly go looking for my favorites too. What a great amount of joy she has brought to so many so quickly. Not to mention her fabulous mental well-being advocacy that she just threw in for laughs...just amazing. My favourite piece, which I watch over and over all the time, is where she gets her first diagnosis, rogue-detective-style, and is punctuated by a wonderful Tomlinson song and dance: " I don't know, bring your credit card!" Heck, I'm going to watch it now!
Watching that joke was what made me really love Taylor. It was so refreshing to hear stories that felt like they had been pulled from my own experiences and reflected back to me in a way that was so entertaining! She is a truly brilliant woman!
Also, the Nana and napkins joke from Quarter Life? The delivery was such perfection that I guffaw laugh every time I hear it, even though I know it's coming. 😂 Edited to correct suck that should have been such
It was great to see that many of these jokes Taylor talks about are ones I’ve gone back to watch over and over again. She deserves all the success she sees.
Taylor, Thank you for making our lives a little brighter. I recently had a death in my family. Your comedy bits and After Midnight have helped me in dealing with the loss, it's much appreciated.
I love her humour, my favourite was either the sad driving joke with the: "No officer, this, was my best" or the whole arm floaties bit. As a performer with stage anxiety, Taylor is honestly so relatable and just an absolute gem in the comedy world
I've seen all of her specials, ans a LOT of TH-cam clips. I love her approaches to life. For SURE can identify with the stuff she jokes about. If you can make a jokes about what breaks you, you have won. I have done this most of my life. She's just really relatable. Thanks Taylor!
Still not clear if she’s America’s favorite Taylor, but she’s definitely my favorite Taylor (and I LOVE T Swift lol). You’re 100% pink flames, your specials are my favorite thing on Netflix. Can’t wait for the next one ;)
i always thought she was simply talented and yeah i still think she is mad talented but hearing about the amount of effort she puts into taylor-ing (wink wink) every single joke is so impressive
Honestly, Look at You is the best comedy special I've ever seen. There's things in there that I still think about. That's the level Taylor will spend the rest of her career trying to match.
You got me into loving stand-up humor and ive never found someone who makes me laugh as hard, even about serious stuff. 😂😂😂 I rewatch all of your specials can't wait for another one
I found Taylor Tomlinson on TH-cam during the pandemic and her material felt especially relatable then. It honestly made it a bit easier to laugh through some hard times and I think it's what makes her so likeable to so many.
I really like the „I‘m a self-fulfilling prophecy“ joke because it is super funny and also worked as a reminder for me to be more mindful when I start spiraling down in doubt and mistrust all on my own. But honestly, there are so many good ones, I just love rewatching them all.
I had seen you in a few shorts on TH-cam and I thought, this girl is really good. Now I’ve seen a lot more and you always make me laugh with the honest & very relatable humour. You’d definitely be on the guest list of my fantasy bbq with people I’ll never actually meet. Love your work.
Taylor is great. To be able to open up about parts of her life, but to take the time to do it in a well crafted humorous way makes her the artist that she is.
I think you're really amazing Taylor! Watching your jokes is actually what got me into watching comedy which I now really enjoy. I really love the arm floaties bit 1. It's really funny and 2. it's been really helpful to explain succinctly why I need adjustments sometimes as I'm autistic . Good luck in all your future comedy specials!
A couple of years back I had gotten my first ever mental health diagnosis and went on meds and it was just not a good time and Netflix just recommended Taylor's Look at You out of nowhere. She is so funny but also so comforting to listen to, there's been no looking back!
never too personal. In fact, everyone was soooo keen on jumping into social media and oversharing everything, I say share everyone personal shit all the time and learn to suck up the embarrassment and carry on.
Jesus Fucking Christ she is SO FUNNY! This look back at her career really makes me realize both how much she’s grown and how talented she’s been from the beginning.
It is so nice to see and hear Taylor getting well deserved success. So much hard work. It paid off! You are so good as a writer & performer now , I can't wait to see what new things you do in the years to come!
She is truly incredible, able to share so much and deliver in such a skilled way that it brings healing to everyone. Wish there was a way to watch specials without a sub to Netflix. One day I’ll find a way to watch them all! 😅
I made sure to quickly scroll past all the clips from "Have it all" that came across my feed so I could watch the whole thing together once I renewed my Netflix. That pink jacket sure helped pick them out quick! Watched it yesterday. Loved it! Wish you'd come for Just for Laugh in Montreal.
I always love these gals who later say, "I don't know if I would do that joke now." Why? What has changed? You stood there fist up demanding attention and now, well, maybe not ?? I love Taylor and her strongest talent is her interaction with her audience. Yet these great bits are never seen in her Netflix Specials. She should do a whole special of the fantastic times she has with her audiences.
I am very obsessed with this young lady and her comedy. I think after midnight is only the beginning. I could definitely see her in movies or on some type of sitcom, even though they don’t really exist anymore. lol
Thanks for helping us get through Covid Taylor. Always got a soft spot for an intelligent woman of course my Mum was one but not with such great sense of Humor! Keep up the great work!
You deserve those hot pink flames, Taylor! Building up confidence for a year to own a jacket is so real 😭
Fascinating how she plans out her sets-- the feelings she wants people to feel, the timing of the jokes, everything
They ALL do it. And she's *really* good at it
That was the first thing that struck me about her in the QLC days - she was very thoughtful about the structure of her set, surprisingly mature as a comic.

Polished work that has the good feel of spontaneity. Well done, Taylor. You should host a game show.
She does! After midnight in CBS
Im sorry if it was sarcasm and i didnt get it
@@sofichacon9453 Yeah, it was a joke. I probably should have said late night game show to make it clearer.

You could be with peanut butter which I hear can cure depression! Favorite line!
I love her jackets so much, Ive been literally dying for some interviewer or someone to ask her about them! Can’t wait to see the next one 😍
There's a video of Taylor going through Whitney Cummings's jackets as they banter. It's on Whitney's TH-cam channel.

never too personal. In fact, everyone was soooo keen on jumping into social media and oversharing everything, I say share everyone personal shit all the time and learn to suck up the embarrassment and carry on.
That was a really interesting look behind the scenes, a great format. Thank you for sharing and providing a glimpse into your creative process.
Jesus Fucking Christ she is SO FUNNY! This look back at her career really makes me realize both how much she’s grown and how talented she’s been from the beginning.
I'm 58 years old and I love Taylor's humor. It's very relatable.
I have seen every-single one of your AM shows and absolutely love your humor! 😊 you deserve a pink flames jacket, just don’t tug on them so much. ;)
49 year old man here and Taylor is on my list of top 3 up and coming comedians, well she's already here :). She is super relatable and hilarious!!
It is so nice to see and hear Taylor getting well deserved success. So much hard work. It paid off!
You are so good as a writer & performer now , I can't wait to see what new things you do in the years to come!
oh man, i loved these special so much! You are great Taylor!
She is my favorite comedian. I love all her jokes. And her cool jackets. ❤
She is truly incredible, able to share so much and deliver in such a skilled way that it brings healing to everyone. Wish there was a way to watch specials without a sub to Netflix. One day I’ll find a way to watch them all! 😅
Watching you talk about bi polar made me feel like I could talk about my bipolar in my stand up. So thank you ❤
Okay I'll say it, I have a crush on her. She is just brilliant.
she's such an icon, an inspiration truly ❤ much love!!
I have always enjoyed Taylor's comedy, but I also appreciate her presence in the comedy sphere in general. Great job, Taylor.
I love the dead parent jokes. My dad died when I was 14 and some people don't appreciate the dark humor.
She’s so pretty 🤩 and it’s so great seeing her grow into her art
I love this so much, she's such an amazing comedian
I headed right over to watch the new(est) special. It's excellent.
I am very obsessed with this young lady and her comedy. I think after midnight is only the beginning. I could definitely see her in movies or on some type of sitcom, even though they don’t really exist anymore. lol
Loved it! Relate to so much in your specials!
Love Taylor's work!!! So good and real!!!!
I never knew there was so much behind your comedy, but you're still the funniest comic on TH-cam. One day you might come to the UK...
Taylor is literally the best ♥️
I agree-it is the best joke you’ve ever written-and you’ve written tons of great ones.
I didbt even notice the flames, but the pink fits 👍 Probably my fav current comedian.
You're simply fantastic. Love the humour!!
Taylor is such an inspiration, her growth was amazing to see and I hope to see more ❤
Thanks for helping us get through Covid Taylor. Always got a soft spot for an intelligent woman of course my Mum was one but not with such great sense of Humor! Keep up the great work!
Oh wow, I've seen "Have it All" like a dozen times and never noticed the pink flames on the jacket 🤣
Absolutely love her ❤
