+Obi-Wan Kannabis week 13 you can't expect much of the racer out there. No one care because no one have penalty over their stupid move. the online racing is still light year better than any other sim.
It's nice to see a youtube channel that doesn't kiss iracing's ass and isn't afraid to point out the big flaws iracing's FFB system has. I think I'll give your channel a try and subscribe. I will say that the Renault 2.0 does have some of the best FFB in iracing though. This and the Ruf RT12
couldn't agree more on what you said about slides. the new mazda mx-5 feels the same. you can feel it, you can still control it. from what I heard, the new Audi LMS and the Mercedes AMG are the same. I think iRacing will now be split between new cars and old cars in regards of physics.
I could never get into the star mazda although I tried to cause I bought it. The Renault on the other hand is just plain fun to drive and not too stressful for an old guy to race closely in either. I think a lot of the tyre models got much more predictable in the December update because I know the Skippy suddenly became easy to correct and even slide whereas I was always on edge and constantly focused on keeping it stable and balanced in previous versions.
great car for me advancing beyond Skippies, 3 laps and I loved it: it's predictable, stable as a brick wall and forgiving of mistakes. feels robust unlike Dallara F3 which is made of cardboard and feathers lol
Damn Jimmy, you are right about this car. I renewed my iracing sub today and spent three hours racing it. Normally spend my time with rfactor2, but the league scene in Australia is abysmal these days. Too few people fractured across too many titles and too many communities. With cars like this being produced maybe iracing is the way to go. The first event I entered was won by Sage Karem for crying out loud.
Communicating with the car and catching slides got a lot easier when I got a better wheel. I can't decide if it comes down to strength of FFB or rate of turn, I can catch slides in my own car by flicking the wheel and working with the torque coming through the rack, but that doesn't work on most sim wheels as it can't turn fast enough. Its just plastic mush
I totally agree with you on the ffb within iracing. I find it severely lacking in most cars, so much so it puts me off the road races. Oval cars seem too be a tad better. I'll download this formula renault on your recommendation.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks iracing lacks fine grained ffb. I thought I was just being a terrible sim racer after spinning the R8 GT3 multiple times without even pushing hard. I would have loved the challenge if the FFB was great but it just wasn't there especially when compared to AC which I've been playing for almost a year.
You are far from the only one, the problem is a lot of iracing fans have been playing it so long that they don't even notice it as much because of how used to it they are. Don't ever let one of these iracing fanboys convince you otherwise. You are right on the money with your comments and there are obvious reasons why (the main one being that iracing only sends you FFB from the front end of the car. Other sims give you FFB on the front and rear of the car, and for obvious reasons, feeling the rear is very important to being able to drive, especially on the limit)
Totally agreed. It's better than the original MX5 which was frankly one of the worst sim cars I've ever driven FFB wise but it's still awful and dead. Iracing really needs to work on its FFB. Instead of trying to copy real life 1:1 they need to realize 99% of their users do not use motion rigs, tactile transducers, or any of the other things that allow you to get a better feel for what the whole car is doing rather than just the front. Currently, iracing only sends FFB information from the front end of the car to the steering wheel. That's absolutely insufficient and not at all realistic. yea, in real life you only feel the front end on the wheel, but you also feel the rest of the car in the seat of your pants. Considering 99% of us only have a wheel and pedals, it's just not okay to only give us FFB from the front end. Other sims have realized this which is why they send the FFB you need to actually drive a car naturally, from the rear of the car included. (AC, pCars (literally lets you dial in exactly how much), rF2, and hell even LFS and nKP which are 10 years old, not to mention GT6 which is only a console sim)
Yeah it's the only car on iRacing that actually feels nice to drive. Every other car feels numb and uncontrollable and yet I keep buying them, getting annoyed after 2 races because I can't tell what the car is doing and then don't bother racing until the next season... and I still keep buying cars. I'm gonna race the F2.0 all season since it's great. Sooo many times in GT3 with my T300 I don't know that i've lost all grip until i'm sitting backwards in the gravel.
Have you tried the Ruf RT12? That IMO is the only other car with decent FFB. The worst IMO is the McLaren Mp4 12c GT3 car but there are many I haven't tried
Have you tried the Aston Martin DBR9? In my opinion that car is saveable too, I remember one time I had some huge oversteer out of raidillon two laps in a row, caught both of them.
The new Merc is pretty good too, can catch slides in it and has a great sound on top of it all. Audi is kinda bitchy to drive for me sometimes but still good. Definitely having the most fun in the FR 2.0 tho!
I'm still new but I'm good at catching spins in the MX-5 and the Skip Barber. Just practice some car control on the skid pad, so you know exactly what to do in a spin.
Hey Jimmy..you still love this car mate ? I see your rekindled love for IR in the Aston at Spa. I just bought the Renault and agree a blast to drive...love it more that Skippy.
Its so funny. The Inside Sim Racing preview of this car saw the guy commenting that the car is twitchy and surprisingly unplanted etc etc. You talking about how its correct and reliable and easy to put out laps without any practice. Funny that.
Jim Henry I know but its amazing the production values they have and the money and the sim rigs and yet they're just... bleh. They spend too much time playing Forza I guess.
+BollocksUtwat They're clueless wanna-be racers. None of them ever drove a real car on a track probably. Besides, they think many arcades are sims....not worth listening to their opinions.
I thought Iracing was the pinnacle of sim racing, obviously not if you cant catch a spin!! For me, Simraceway is my favourite. Excellent feed back, great community, great clean racing. The only issue is that there is not many players at the moment due to recent server issues which seems to be ok now.
It's so interesting to get different peoples opinions about different sims. I feel about Project CARS the way you feel about Iracing. Good run though until dude took you out.
Probably way too late and none will read, but i think you would've done better with shorter gears and earlier braking/throttling in the corners. Otherwise a nice video. Was nice to see you deffend(slightly) your position, because, in the other videos that i watched, you don't do that :D
The Audi is a bit like the macca back when it would touch a curb and just KILL you. Other than that it's been awhile since I enjoyed a gt3 car that much if ever.
They come by here about once per month and ask if I like Daytona. If I say, "No", then they whack me in the knee with a baseball bat. Catching the car may have more to do with the tire model. They're all easier to catch since about a year ago. I'm trying to find someone to compare this car to the Star Mazda.
catching slides and FFB feel is 100% dependent on your wheel. i have had zero issues catching the most ridiculous slides on i invested in a DD wheel. this leads my to believe there is nothing wrong with the sim except for the fact that most people do not have the ability to buy a DD wheel.
+David Lavenhagen Which alienates 90% of their target audience. FFB feel is definitely not 100% dependant on your wheel. If that were the case, pCars would feel the same as rF2.
+Jimmy Broadbent I meant in iRacing. I agree that it does alienate probably closer to 99% of its subscribers, and that is an issue that they should be looking at fixing. I am just saying that when I had a CSW, I thought the sim was broken when it came to catching, well, anything really. All I know is now it is very manageable to catch/maintain huge slides with almost any car in iRacing and the FFB gives a ton of information that I did not know existed.
+David Lavenhagen However, some of the FASTEST aliens use a basic single screen setup with a G27. Which blows my mind, but they usually invest in good pedal setups first to be fast.
+Jimmy Broadbent I actually have had the opposite feel for FFB. Assetto, pCars, etc pale in comparison to small feedback to iRacing. Then again, I do have a Fanatec model based on the CSW. Once I moved to a belt driven, the resolution increased greatly and then I got that fine control and bumps I felt in my real life racing I did.
+LateralGs I noticed that seems to be the case. I wonder if that's because iracing tune the game slightly towards that wheel. As the g27 seems to be a wheel a lot of people have.
+Jimmy Broadbent whattt?? I have GT5, GT6, Project CARS, LFS, F12015, Grid Austosport, Rfactor 2, and you come with this shit, Iracing is far better than any sim, and people race really clean and competitive, Iracing is a sim for Gentlemans, and anyways u can bias the FFB as well.
+Polarice Swiss The only sim you mentioned is rFactor2. Anyway, Assetto Corsa has the best FFB in this moment. iRacing is good but there's a plenty of missing information on FFB. And physics sometime just screws up.
+Polarice Swiss What a great selection of Arcade games you mentioned.. The iRacing model is indeed extremely floored.. The game is only worth playing for its great track models and decent multiplayer experience.. But ultimately you do have to re learn to drive their cars... Its a shame.. Automobilista is Amazing!
+Felix James iRacing is the only sim I have really ever driven. (have driven gtr2 and nr2003 as well but not alot) What am I missing out compared to other Sims in terms of driving? Is iRacing teaching me bad habits for sim racing?
+Hallic0Hicks The slides can be tricky... I started practicing in the new mx5 replacement last night. Ive done thousands of laps in the regular mx5... so you'd think I would be familiar with the car right? It took me ten laps to set a time without crashing the freaking car. I was spinning and losing it into the walls like crazy. Tried to counter-steer to save some slides... made it worse. Over and over.. hated the car. Then I set a time, 2:06, then faster... and by the end of the hour I was setting reasonable times and made it to 15th fastest out of 50 odd people in the session. What I noticed is that subtlety is your friend in this game. You have to be smooth, and subtle with your inputs. Gran turismo style lock to lock counter-steering will get you nowhere here. Its not that you cant correct a slide. Its that it requires a more subtle touch, and practice. Add that to the fact that the cars have radically different characteristics and you need to practice. A lot. Having played other games before, normally I can jump from car to car and just drive, whereas in Iracing you really need to spend time learning each car.
That's not how it works in real life, it's not how it should in iracing either. In real life, you can feel it long before the car actually gets loose. Iracing you only feel it after the fact which is completely unacceptable. Just because you're used to it doesn't mean it's not a problem.
The first event I entered was won by Sage Karem for crying out loud.
lol at that ending. One of the reason why I'm not keen on trying iracing is because how much rage I would expell from my body if that happened to me.
+Obi-Wan Kannabis week 13 you can't expect much of the racer out there. No one care because no one have penalty over their stupid move. the online racing is still light year better than any other sim.
+Obi-Wan Kannabis In higher splits (high Irating) the racing is pretty clean
It's nice to see a youtube channel that doesn't kiss iracing's ass and isn't afraid to point out the big flaws iracing's FFB system has. I think I'll give your channel a try and subscribe.

Those new tire smoke effects are orgasmic
Yeah you can finally see when others lock up!
great car for me advancing beyond Skippies, 3 laps and I loved it: it's predictable, stable as a brick wall and forgiving of mistakes. feels robust unlike Dallara F3 which is made of cardboard and feathers lol
G'day from Australia!

does the car have snap oversteer ? :) just noiced the date
Yes youtube at its finest once again !

Wow great video, though a heartbreaker at the end, cannot wait to see more.
I'm new to iRacing and loving it. What is your favourite sim and why?
Assetto corsa is my favorite because of the physics... if only the multiplayer was as good as iracing
ultraflu flu red a legar rasanya
kent based racer here so i’m absolutely obligated to love brands hatch haha x
Good to hear that iRacing has a good car for once. The new MX5 is horrible FFB wise though.
MX5 ffb is brilliant on my OSW
Totally agreed. It's better than the original MX5 which was frankly one of the worst sim cars I've ever driven FFB wise but it's still awful and dead.

For some reason YT pushed this in 2022. Enjoyed it mind.
Thanks for the video Jimmar is this car and series still as good today?
Yeah it's the only car on iRacing that actually feels nice to drive. Have you published your FFB settings anywhere? (TM profiler and ingame settings)

Good racing, this car seems to be much fun to drive.
I do consider to get my subscription back, just for the renault =)
Great vid...No trading paint running?

Yea. I found ISR's comments strange too but he was saying that in comparison to the Formula Mazda, which does feel a bit more planted and grippy.
Sorry about the dive-bomb into T1 at 8:30 - was a bit ambitious TBH! :-)
Antraxobot reporting in :D.
more Formula Renault on iRacing!! Plzz
I thought Iracing was the pinnacle of sim racing, obviously not if you cant catch a spin!!

soon as they got past you, you got better, for the few seconds before you got boned
But why don't you like this sim?
haha yeah i made it on the video lol
What don't you like about the current iRacing driving model?
+ThePoison38 The force feedback and general lack of feel compared to other sims. IMO of course.

Having no control over a car that starts to spin is inexcusable for a racing sim that you pay monthly for.
+Hallic0Hicks yeah it's not need for speed. Learn to catch slide before they happen. After some time playing the sim you will get use to it.
+Hallic0Hicks The slides can be tricky... I started practicing in the new mx5 replacement last night.
