Man your video is honestly a blessing. I watched literally over 20 videos of clutch replacements and your video removed the headache I’ve had for a month. Had. Guy do my clutch and he put the steel plates in wrong and I couldn’t for the life of me figure why my bike was acting the way it was. I went back through and looked over each one and he had 3 or 4 plates facing the wrong direction. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.
wow youre telling me they wanna charge me $600 in labor for this..... I appreciate the video very clear, might as well just do it myself now. I have a 07 GSXR and the clutch completly burnt out on me tonight after i just got it looked at a week ago and they told me it just needed to be adjusted
when you said it burnt out? did it stop grabbing? like the lever was all lose and couldnt use it even though it was still running? mines doing that now and dont know what it is :(
Always undo any mechanical covers in a star pattern to eliminate accidentally warping it. Also never re use gaskets. It could cost you a lot more than a gasket in the long run.
So if you are not reusing gasket, then how youlosen bolts doesn't matter. It's when you tighten upon a new gasket Go in star pattern snug first then walk up the torque. 30 yr mech/ engineer
I have a 1999 Honda CBR600F4 with 105,000 km's (65,243 Miles) and I was thinking of replacing my clutch plates this year. When I do my next oil change I'm going to inspected the plates and springs first. I got a new clutch cable already and with some new Michelin Road 5 tires and a DID chain I think my bike will feel new. Nice video.
Not knocking the video good video, however couple thing I wish to point out. Beveled edges face out and reason being when the clutch is disengaged the rounded edge is what rides on the basket when faced out. The last plate is turned to the side like you did and that not just how some guy did it that’s how it’s done in the service manual as well. Safe riding.
Great video! But I want to mention one thing! Never ever use the same gasket! You spent $100 and something to get the clutch, it wouldn’t be an issue to spend $25 for brand new gasket! Thanks and keep it up man! ✌️.
make it nasty, make it nasty ... ur video finally gives me the courage to do mine after Ive been tracking and it slips like a bar of soap. good looking
Ohh man ! That is a lot better now I can do wheelies just like that. Amazing friction and grip. The bike pulls right on, it was the friction plates that needed to be replaced they were worn out ! Thanks for the great video buddy !
Hi guys, your presentation seems to be very much straight foward, respectfuly you failed to say that is a most to inspect and replace if neecesary the cutch drum and clutch separator grooves, anyway, thanks for your technical suppport.
The last friction plate goes on turned one tooth gap in relation to the ones before it. Also I think that thin metal plate at the back is a judder spring, it helps smooth the clutch engagement. The 09-14 R6's didn't have them any they were really jerky when taking off.
Great video! Wish I followed exactly as I changed mine out, I didn't offset the outermost friction plate. I put about 7 miles on the new clutch and had really bad slippage, I'm hoping that's the source of the problem. Would not offsetting the last plate cause the clutch to slip a lot? Really hoping I didn't wear down my new clutch right away
+Trevor Leivas The offset wouldn't make a difference as it is optional. You don't have to offset it. It sounds like you need to adjust your clutch height. Refer to the 5:40 mark of this video on instructions on how to do that. Let me know if it helps thanks!
+centersnare32 I couldn't get it to stop slipping and ended up using the old friction plates with the new steel plates, did the trick! Thank you though!
im about to do my clutch using this video, i have the same gsxr but now a little worried about the comment of the plates being 3 or 5mm thicker and the order of them? apart from that the video seems awesome and has given me the convidence to attempt it myself 👌
Hey man nice vedio bro it was well put together man..I had put the big clutch cork in the place n I had to take them out n change it n it's much better..it went over the clutch spring n it was all good..bike it working great bro..thanks again
Good video, but I have question….anyone experience no tension in the clutch cable after arranging the plates like in the video? I seen another video saying there’s a more specific way to put a few of the plates in.
You did everthing right but on the steel plates theres usually a couple of them that are a .3 or .5 mm thicker then the rest, i belive the thinner ones go to the outside towards the cover . Not sure of the effect if not in order, great video.
I think the first Clutch plate with bigger inner diameter is for o-ring that goes on inner hub. At least i got it on my KTM 640. I know it's different bike but check service manual for big diameter o-ring.
So I bought an EBC Street Racer Clutch Kit for my GSX-R and tried to put it in. Two clutch spring bolts snapped off, great. But what I noticed while putting in the friction plates was that the friction plates didn't have any paint on them but the manual clearly states that all the friction plates (besides the first one) are painted to tell the last one apart from all the other ones inbetween.Do you know if this is normal? Are the EBC friction plates just all the same except the first?
Awesome! Are your friction plates worn out ?! Because mine are not that bad as a matter of fact I went to the a professional and he told me that they are not that bad so he said the problem might be the adjustment of the cultch ! Idk. This problem occurred all of the sadden while riding !
+centersnare32 Can you pleeeeaaaassseeee do a video of this quality on the adjustment. I'm on a 06 600, which is identical as far as clutches go to yours, but I'm lost on the adjustment.
I have a few questions for ya Were you in band? Would you recommend that exhaust? (I have the Yoshi R-55 for my K7 750) What clutch kit are those new plates from, and how are they?
Ezequiel Palacio Jauregui Yea man I played snare at Magnolia HS, in Anaheim CA. Going to be doing DCI this year! You in battery or what? The Level One Racing pipe is pretty nice, I paid around $600 for the full setup so it wasn't too expensive. I have it tuned with my power commander III and it gives off a nasty sound. You can get the slip on for around $300 online. I might put a video up showing it off. I used a Barnett performance clutch for around $200 and couldn't be happier with it's performance. Hella grab, more effective engine braking and clutch up wheelies with no problem. I think it's considered a lightweight clutch too.
No way! I was Percussion Captain at North Monterey County HS! I can play, but I can't read music very well.. I would have tried out for DCI! One of my twitter buddies did DCI, actually. He got me to consider doing it, but money.. Full setup as in full exhaust, right? If that's the case, I think I might have to let go of my slip on and order that along with a PC! Maybe.. I'm assuming it'll waste quicker than a heavier clutch, correct?
Why did you change them ? Did you have high rpms and no acceleration ? Because that's what I'm experiencing in my bike high rpms and no acceleration. I have seen some videos that people call this case ' slipping clutch ' which means the friction plates need to be replaced. Thanks
Yes most of the time you will have to make a small adjustment after installing a new clutch because the new stack will be thicker than your old one. Typically you would experience more slack in the clutch cable or have to pull the lever in all the way to barely engage the clutch. To fix this issue, unscrew the little square knob that is centered on the clutch cover. After it is off you should see that pin in the middle of the clutch. I believe you need a flat head screw driver to undo the screw just a little, then you will need a wrench to turn the bolt counter clockwise so the pin comes toward you and it will eventually stop. Do not continue unscrewing after it touches the face plate. Now tighten the center screw to lock it in place. You have now "zeroed" your clutch. Any further adjustments will be made at the lever itself. Hope it helps
Disregard that second half of my last post. After you take the little cover off, you have to use the wrench and a Phillips screw driver at the same time. Turn the wrench counter clockwise to loosen the smaller hex bolt. After you loosened it a few turns you need to tighten the Phillips screw inwards. This will cause the pin to be pushed toward you. Stop when the bearings touch the face plate. Now tighten the smaller hex bolt to lock it in.
i got a question.. i looked at your fibers and you dont have any notches on the fibers on my oem clutch fibers i have 3 notches am i suppose to line them uppp?
I have a 2021 Suzuki gsxr 600, with 75 miles on it,my friend tried to do a burn out, and the clutch changes gears , engine revs, but bike won’t move, some guys told me i burned the plates. Do i need to change the slipper clutch plates ? And if so, is the process the same?
On every GSXR from 2000-2014 there are two washers that sit in the back of the basket(One flat, the other convex), you only pulled out the convex one, where was the second one?
@@centersnare32 they all have the flat and convex washers at the back, anti rattle I think, that is why the first fibre has a larger ID so both washers fit inside it
I have the same model, followed all the steps in the video but accidentally changed the 3 pins around the center, now my bike revs at 1st gear but now power, everything is new the whole clutch kit. What can i do to fix this?
Ibrahim Shammout take out the clutch sleeve hub (where your steeles teeth into) and adjust and measure on back side of clutch sleeve hub. Measure. 2-.4 mm. You can message me and I can take pictures out of service manual and send them to you
i just did mine as i was watching this video.. I found 2 small rings the very first one you had with the slant going in and i also had a similar looking one that was completely flat I'm not sure where it goes?? any help i would really appreciate it a lot
+Tim Elliott I honestly don't know why there's an extra ring. My best advice would be to put all the parts that came out, back in, in the order you took them out.
Uhhh ya you want to torque them down to the same spec if not you squeeze the springs more than you need or more on one and not the other so you’ll have uneven pressure from the clutch hub. But this was a year ago. And yes it’ll cause excessive wear over time.
Only thing, do not put oil on the gasket!!! Worst thing. Just lucky it didnt leak. Instade, clean both surface as much as you can with carb or brake cleaner and dry up surface. Specially if using liquid gasket, apply on engine part, not the cover. As liquid is still wet, mount with screws but only tighten with hands. Let it sit for 24h if possible. Then, tight screws up to proper torque, in opposite order so the cover sits even.
Man your video is honestly a blessing. I watched literally over 20 videos of clutch replacements and your video removed the headache I’ve had for a month. Had. just cut your own from a sheet of gasket
So if you are not reusing gasket, then how youlosen bolts doesn't matter.

Is this the same process for all gsx models or just gsxr's. I'm looking at buying an '89 gsx600f with clutch issues
Also, i changed the 3 adjustments allen screws from original position…and i need to find how to bring it back to original adjustment.tx
mine has more plates than supposed to. My kit brought 10 ceramic plates and 9 iron plates. should I worry?
good vid. i see you wrote its the same on all gsxr's,but is it the exact same on a '98mod srad 600?
It might not be exactly the same but very similar you may have to take an extra step to remove srad

Hey, the last plate that you put on, was ot correct??
I know it depends how u ride ?? Bt how long does a normally clutch last??
Thankyou!! This really helped me
Was your slipping before you replaced it? Did you try adjusting it before that as well?
So when doing tbis do u keep the bike in gear or in neutral?
the curved one in the back, the inside that sticks out goes into the motor or faces outward??
Great Write up man!!!! Thank you
After u installed the new plates and fibers did u have to make any major adjustments ? I'm having a problem with my clutch on my 2013 gsxr 600
Yes most of the time you will have to make a small adjustment after installing a new clutch because the new stack will be thicker than your old one. Typically you would experience more slack in the clutch cable or have to pull the lever in all the way to barely engage the clutch.

the first steel u put in the 2 would that cause the bike to slip wen if faced the wroung way wen hit him rpms
springs with screws at the end how tight they must be wrapped
so did it ride ok after?

Total of 7 steel plates?
Did you skip the part where you adjusted it
How many miles / km do you have on your bike?
