There is a current scandal here in Australia about cars spying on their owners, Teslas, Korean cars plus a few others are collecting data on all sorts of things and selling it to insurance companies and others. This included vision of people doing things in and around cars, ( yes all sorts of things) locations in detail, driving habits, braking and acceleration data etc etc. a lot of people are now quite concerned about their privacy regardless of the reason or their behaviour. If a foreign government can do this in the national security environment then that’s even more of a worry. The US has effectively banned many products that do this and a few other countries will follow suit. What a world we live in!
Every pound that is spent on imports is a pound lost to the UK economy. This can be balanced by ponds gained through exports. However, as the UK pays more out than it earns, the value of the UK pound has become devalued by that proportion of the economy. The government then has to borrow money to prop up the pound or suffer catastrophic devaluation. Borowing money incurs interest payments that along with the imbalance in international trade, reduces the value of the pound and makes us all poorer. These are economic facts which no government or political party has understood since the 1950's. Now that the UK motorcycle industry is just about extinct we had better buy Chinese and Indian than the more expensive Japanese and European stuff. Because it is cheaper we export fewer UK ponds per bike.
Not a pound lost if that country spend with us in return though. USA and Germany are the UK top export markets (I think). The fact china themselves sell/trade us so much and we export so little to them is surely the main issue already only compounded by buying more of their goods (and less vat into the treasury if lower vehicle prices). Are we not better to help (put more into the economy) the countries that spend more with us so they keep on buying our goods/products, or the whole thing comes crashing and china rule the world!?
Thanks, beautiful scenery. I don't trust the goverment over here on either side, Haven't for years. But goverments are the same all over. Crooks everwhere! Have a good day!! Cheers!!!
Ronald Regan did this in the 80's , massive import duties on non - American bikes to try to save Hardley Abelson at there behest, & once again Harvey's are not selling,I wonder why?
Morning Dave and thanks for the channel mention. Shortly after you left us we encountered an absolutely beautiful 99 year old Bentley Blower in the centre of Grassington. Sadly we didn’t find a pie shop..👍
not nothing to do with being better just to offset the Chines government pouring money into these car manufacturers ! If it will help is a totally different question though
They're putting 50-100% tariffs on chinese EVs because they cant compete for price. They may put the same protectionist measures in place on bikes eventually.
Win Win ? A CF moto should pair great to a iPhone ! there are made in the same place 😁madness. Its obviously economically driven using a Bogyman to scare the sheep. typical governmental policy.
Cyber Security - we had the crowd strike software issue earlier in the year from an innocuous software change which paralysed millions of Microsoft devices around the world, impacts including numerous business platforms - to me that shows how utterly dependant we are when one part of the technology chain fails. Data/Encryption keys from your mobile device connected to a motorbike could perhaps aid cyber criminals to break into the phone network? Chinese communications company Huawei have various restriction in EU/US from operating 5G networks so there is clearly mistrust out there. The EU are imposing tariffs on Chinese built cars (but not the UK), perhaps one reason why Tesla's are now built in Berlin. Will be interesting to see where it all ends up - probably with more tariffs in Europe, and some established manufacturers such as KTM going to the wall. I am torn with these Chinese bikes, the value is off the scale but they appear blatant design copies of other companies hard work and R&D, and who will sell me a fairing bracket for a CF moto/Voge in 5 years time..longer term the jury is out. Anyway, its dry, the skies are blue, think I might stick another layer on and get out on the bike today - these rides are giving me some ideas for routes to try thank you!
Beautiful scenery (4x4s excluded!) The US has history in imposing punitive tariffs on imported bikes. Back in 1983, Ronald Reagan targeted foreign machines over 700cc by increasing the existing levy on them from 4.4% to 49.4%. In that case, the measure was introduced purely for commercial reasons, specifically to protect Harley Davidson and to give them time to recover. Since Harley again seem to be in a bit of a financial pickle, you have to ask yourself, is it just a coincidence that similar actions are being considered against Chinese bikes, (albeit under the banner of "security" rather than protectionism)?
Interesting issue.. do bikes actually call back to head office though? I understand some cars do that now, but bikes? I'd be dead against that. I have a good reason, too - it's called privacy. We seem as a society to be happy to chuck that concept into the bin but some, me for one, still hold it dear. UK is already surveilled to fk, no conspiracy there. Unless you want it to see who crashed in to/broke into/nicked your car, then "the tape ran out". The argument of "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" has never really stood up to much scrutiny. It's anti-liberty. Nobody should have to explain why they don't want to be watched, tracked. It's nobody's business where we ride. Least of all the state, least of all a foreign state! It may all be moot anyway; insurance, old bikers dying out, dealers closing, youngsters not caring for motorbikes, the authorities dead against motorcycling - seems like we are getting to the end of days for PTWs. Gloom. Hope it can stick around long enough to see me out ;-) Ride safe!
Cracking vid Matey. Working as a purchasing manager I see plenty which goes on behind the scenes. You can put money on one thing. If Europe increases import duty taxes on the likely Chinese candidates you rightly mentioned to “Balance the field” . Those same manufacturers who manufacture products for the likes of KTM and BMW will return the favour accordingly. It’s a security issue when all said and done. It’s not the bikes software that’ll do the “Tracking” it’s whatever comes with it. We all need tin foil hats 😂😂😂. Sad state of affairs really. Let’s just enjoy the bikes 👍🏻 . Just because the non Chinese car industry is on its arse they are now trying to act on it. Too late.
Have you heard the theory that Kennedy was shot by one of the security agents travelling in a car behind Kennedy's car and his gun, a rifle of some sort, went off as he lifted it from the rear footwell of the car and fetched it up and level to cover the buildings in front of the cars. Seemed possible!
Im in the US and literally just bought one yesterday. Dealership didn't mention a thing either. But from i seen, it's about the telematics-box and the ride app that comes with them. Similar to the brand Kove. But this wouldn't be until 2027. Since the ANPRM was issued.
Morning Dave, if I understand it correctly it’s not so much the vehicle that is going to be subject to the tariff but the systems within them that either have sat nav or systems that connect to a mobile phone. I think they are frightened of being traced by the Chinese big brother. The world is continually at each others throats and full of suspicion. The problem they are not taking into consideration is the amount of Chinese parts that make up our everyday appliances. Why would the Chinese be interested in where I am driving. The simple answer would be for the USA security services personnel etc to be banned from buying or using them by their own country. I think it’s down to protectionism really looking after their own markets and keeping the prices high for the consumers. However is the typical Harley rider likely to buy a CF Moto ? But is a young rider likely to learn on a CF Moto and then move onto a Harley ? They could be shooting themselves in the foot ?
😂if we get rid of cheap Chinese motorcycles, motorcycling will die and we will be stuck with roads clogged with large expensive cars., not to mention that electric buses are made in China, BYD are a Chinese manufacturer, so buy expensive European cars and motorcycles.
Having worked in the bike trade, getting the correct part for any bike requires a good parts backed organisation. So who is importing these ? What's the parts back up in 5-10 years time when I could possibly afford one , or are there going to be on marketplace for a few hundred quid with vague description like 'does not run properly etc 'and no chance in hell of getting it back on the road. No thanks I'll keep to the established big names...but you carry, it's your choice

The Americans generally know what's going to happen next in the world. Like the Ukraine War. If their planning a ban on Chinese Imports it's for a reason. Maybe Taiwan will be the next conflict and more escalations in Europe... I hope l am wrong. Really like the CF Moto 800NK Advanced and seriously considering buying one.
Later I’ll be going for my flu and Covid booster jabs or, if you believe the conspiracy theorists I’m having the battery changed in the government tracker…🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks TBW, i think its probably the conspiracy issue with the current bikes fitted with the T-box & OTA update facilities. Everything can be switched off. Any software updates can still be done at the dealership with conventional plug ins. The right start conspiracies & propaganda.

You believe in this BS? They're banning it because they cannot compete anymore, as simple as that nothing too complicated

It pains me to say it as I am not keen on China's policies, but you are correct that we should buy cheap if we don't manufacture the item in the UK

Hi Nick...A Bentley or a pie! That's a hard one!!
EU already decided to introduce a 35% tax on Chinese EV cars just because they're better and cheaper than euro cars.
"Better" I like you, you're funny😂

The great American Apple IPhone, assembled in China. If the big brother theory is correct, we have all been doomed for years. Enjoying your vlogs.

I view the Chinese bikes as a disposable item. Ironically I've just restored a 1975 Honda and have had no problems getting original parts.
