Good question. The ETC button will help with gear hunting a little bit too, but it doesn’t do anything to the ECU regarding air/fuel ratios and timing (and boost pressure if you’re supercharged). The ETC button will not give more power, torque, better MPGs, but it will adjust the throttle response slightly… definitely more noticeable with the tune!
You said in one of the comments that you only recommend OVTune or CVC Tune. Why is that? There are other tunes, some are more popular than others, but how did you come to this conclusion? Heard of complaints or issues? Compared tunes? Done a dyno test? I'm intrigued
OV Tune is from VF Tuner and every single tune is based off of VF (you have to use their software). You can only change a few things (A/F ratio, throttle, shift points) and the safest bet, in our opinion, is OV Tune. It's the original tune program from the only people who have cracked the ECUs, we just don't have issues with them. OTT is great too, but again, they're all pretty similar and we like repping the company that knows what they're doing the most.
What’s the street off though? Is it just fuel? Is there any implication on additional wear and tear on the engine or transmission? If anything I think it would be better for both the engine and the transmission not to be going through wide torque band
The tune is a new flash on the ECU (the truck's computer)... it's just basically reprogramming the shift points, air/fuel ratio, and throttle response/curve.
You mentioned that dealerships can’t sense that it’s been re tuned, does that mean if I ever have an issue with my truck within warranty, I won’t have any problems from the dealership?
No remote tunes but Tacoma World has some great info on Tuning events all over the country. I'd stick with either the OVTune or the CVC Tune only though.
I thought Toyota had a patch or update they needed to do to fix the gear hunting, I’ve got a 2020 Tacoma I’ve had and wasn’t until I saw another video before this that I started noticing that problem lol 😅 I notice it struggles doing slight inclines and when I decline down a hill or freeway just coasting it it downshifts real bad
@@clown8058 I feel like I should install a car cam inside somehow to actually see if the work is done or they do their checks. So much shady work now a days , I have a 4Runner now and don’t see that issue tho on these
It won’t void your warranty. The most misleading false information. Only way a warranty can be voided is if there is proof that the modification that was added caused a failure on the vehicle.
@@jakerleafs94 You put in non factory parts the manufacture does not have to warranty them, you replace your battery with one that did not come with the vehicle you just voided your battery warranty and they do have serial numbers on them. I got the KD Tune and am totally satified. It makes the Tacoma behave as it should. Hard to believe Toyota Corporation would ok original factory tune! Should be class action lawsuit to recover our cost to make Tacoma safe.

@@RobLaSane1969 LOL, you break something in the power train and Toyota finds out you had a tune in the ECU that is all they need to void the powertrain warranty. A tune is not like an exhaust or an air intake or a different set of tires and rims.
@@mtnyotas Thanks for this! Do you think anyone sells this tune online? I'm not in the U.S but familiar with ECU flashes, so perhaps I can attempt it myself.
A Pedal Commander just moves your throttle response up or down, it doesn't change the curve of the response. Not worth it when a tune is just a tiny bit more.
Give us a call or email info@mountainyotas.com and we can get it done... not something you can do yourself without spending around $7k for licensing and stuff.
I mean, any VF-based tune is pretty close. A lot of people think one is a lot better than the other when all you're really adjusting is Air/Fuel ratio and shift points. We chose to go with the OVTune because it doesn't dump too much fuel like a lot of the others.
you could also put on ECT to mitigate alot of that if your going up a long incline like that.
Best mod I’ve done as well. This video explained it perfect.
Glad to help out!
I only have a couple thousand miles on my truck and worried about that it may void my warranty. Should I be worried ?
you're not gear hunting you're screaming down the road at 4500 rpm
My favorite tune for Tacomas is Blue Tacoma.
Should have done mine way sooner too! Thanks again @Mountain Yotas
You bet! -Cheers
Tune and a regear together is 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼

Let's goooo. Solid video!
Thanks dude!
My TRD Pro '23 gets here in a month. I'll be giving these guys a call.
Give us a ring anytime!
So isn't that what s mode is for? You know when you bump the shifter to the left and select a max gear.
Yes sir, I'm not buying into a lot of this stuff, lol.
I have a manual, so it stays where I want it to LOL. However, I should still probably go and get a tune just for S&G's
Should have done this WAY sooner 🤦🏼♂️
100% should have...lessons learned.
Nope
Isn’t this what the ECT button does

It's a must!
Dealers can detect tunes witch can void warranty
Yup. And if you mess up your truck Its on you
in reality, the 3rd gen truck is notorious for gear hunting. My 2nd Gen doesn't do it at all. So why should 2nd Gen drivers get a tune?
What is a good place to tune a tacoma ? Not sure where to go ?
Did you know there are free software updates from toyota for the gear hunting....... ya me either, but its real.

Nope... they can tell the ECU was accessed but that's not against the rules. They cannot tell it was tuned.
I'm in Virginia I'm about to get a Tacoma. Do they do remote tuning?

Your Tacoma with an AT spins 4000 rpm at 70?
