      @@jspur22 I guess so. I don't owe any loyalty to that guy. Funny thing I just happened to accidentally come across that channel. Only read a couple of comments and they were pretty rude, to my way of thinking. And I told them so. I merely said why you gotta be so disparaging to another trainer who Nevers says a negative remark about another trainer. I've never heard Joel say anything derogatory about another trainer. I believe I've watched every single video. Also I think this guy is Fairly new to TH-cam and I think should show decency on his channel. Maybe I'm just naive. Not saying you have to, but I like throwing a good eye contact in before giving the OK. It´s really great to gauge their mental state, which has to be calm in order to keep eye contact. Maybe just a second in the beginning when you´re training it, then gradually work it up to 3 or 4.

The only problem I have right now is getting him into the car; his first trip in my car was when I collected him, a drive of over 200 miles, he was pretty calm laying in the back with a friend. Since then I’ve struggled to get him into the car…first trips were to ‘nice places’ for walks then one trip to the vets.
    It would be great if you did a video showing how to overcome the problem I’m experiencing. Or maybe if any viewers can advise it would be very welcome.

      @@jillsy2815 Thanks Jillsy…..He came from a loving home; I was thinking he ‘blamed’ me for taking him away (probably overthinking?). I think he’s confident in me as he’s very loving and generally well behaved. My current plan which I’m working through is:-
      Walk closely around the car (doors shut) on a loose lease….he’s happy with this. Then same with back door (SUV) open.
      Next I’ll sit in the back with door open and encourage him to come near, probably with tasty treats and praise. When he’s ok with this I’ll put him in the house out of sight of the car for a while.
      I’ll then go out and open the door and take him out again and sit in the back and encourage him to jump in (I may try a ramp too).
      Once he sits happily in the car with rewards I’ll take him out for a short trips to a ‘nice place’ for a walk, I then plan to increase the journey time over a week or two……hopefully the problem will diminish over a few weeks or months.
      My goal is for him to be happy in the car for a couple of hours so I can spend time with him on a beach🦮🦮😄 ……here’s hoping!

    From our otherwise quite rough trainer the getting out of the car trick was actually good: you open the door a bit (not wide enough that they could catch their paws by closing) then with a bit more strenght / noise close back right away a few times. Our was already good with in and out jumping the car but the trick really worked with the other 'classmates', after a few "surprise doorslap" they stayed until owner's cue

    This morning, whilst on leads out walking with my husband, my two large 30 plus kg dogs, saw and reacted to a small dog being walked coming towards them. My husband was pulled and dragged for 10 mètres on the ground towards the small dog. Luckily he managed to continue his grip on the leads and get back onto his feet and regain control of them. My dogs appear to feed off each other, so if one reacts then they both join in and act as a team! I really don’t know how to overcome this obstacle without having another dog to ‘practice’ on.

      All of the above. I have 2 dogs and walk them separately. I also changed equipment from harness and flat collar to slip leads. I use whatever dogs ( squirrels, deer) we come across as training opportunities. "Every walk us a training session." With dogs I don't know I keep a good distance to experience a non reactive success. I passed 2 crazy chihuahuas that go nuts. I used to avoid them, but I know their owners have hold of them and my dog has learned to walk by with no reaction! Their problem now! Then later we approached a strange dog and the owner asked if my dog was friendly... I said not really but I was working with her... asked her just to keep her leash short so her dog couldn't reach us... We passed them twice and my dog was GREAT! All from working Joel's methods.

    Stopping a dog building up in a car is just good practice, they should exit and enter your car on your command, and it's safety, usually you're exiting your car where there are other vehicles, so they shouldn't be in the habit of shooting out. Chapo is sketch but better leash handling will help and being firm with him in the house, need the "place" command.

      That’s my 10 year old female Lab. Shelter dog who we got 2 years ago and is hugely reactive to other dogs, but and angel with people (kids included). She is great to walk with but when she sees another dog within 20 metres her hackles shoot up and she lunges for all she’s worth. I’m strong enough to manage but it’s stressful. I’ve recently found that holding her by the collar between my knees and with my other hand holding her muzzle subdues her in the moment and I can de escalate from there. Once the other dog has moved off, she’s fine again. I’m resigned to keeping her away from other dogs 🤷‍♂️.

It's not until the last ten feet and he springs up to excitedly bombard the dog and no matter the correction on any leash; he will obsessively bark and jump towards them. Once they pass, he will follow me reluctantly, checking back on their position. Just a bully who absolutely can't contain himself. • @skellie4580
      @skellie4580 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is just my opinion, but could your pit puppy have been taken away from their siblings or mother a little too young? It sounds like your Aussie isn’t very assertive and just deals with it, and your pit runs the show and bullies them + takes advantage of the lack of assertiveness.
      Maybe another dog that is far more assertive correcting that out of your pit puppy would help, as beckman does with Prince correcting dogs who like to bully other dogs into submission.
      I’m obviously no expert, but it could be worth a shot if you have anyone with a more assertive dog that’s willing to help out. Some dogs take submission as a sign of weakness almost it seems.

    • @byoncaowens
      @byoncaowens 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely agree with having another dog that can be assertive with your pit if he’s being a jerk. Sometimes you may not be able to pick up on the behavior that his disrespect is linked to but dogs can and will. It takes a very experienced eye to catch this behavior in the moment but having a dog that is able to correct this WILL help.
      You also shouldn’t forget how important your leadership with your dogs are in their behavior with each other because at the end of the day you spend the most time with them. Try to pay attention to when the behavior happens so you can prevent them or call your dog out when he’s being disrespectful. Like Joel has said in previous videos, dogs won’t fight around the person who is in charge of the room.
      I will say I feel you on this though because my 10 month old lab/hound mix is getting testy with my 2 year old malinois mix. Of course this is a different situation from yours, but dogs do have a hierarchy and dogs will try to figure out their place in their family. Your pit is in a sense a teenager like my 10 month old and they’re still experiencing a lot of changes in their body. This is the time to make sure you have your rules and boundaries set in place so everyone can live together without one suffering more than the rest.
      I wish you the best of luck with this. It can be trying, but if you put in the work it will pay off.

There is no previous information besides that. She was fostered with 2 other parvo survivors and did fine there..but I suspect they were pushover dogs. But what if we want our dog to be both animal and people aggressive/natural while on the property but tame when walked out and about? I don't think that's possible to have, at least not in my case - but then again I know very little about dogs from a professional perspective. This is also what lead me to look up dozens of videos on TH-cam, trying to find a solution to my problem, without having to resort on spending a fortune on a dog trainer just for a simple issue like this, which I could do myself - if it is even possible to do so...
    I say that I don't know if that's possible because I have a pretty rare, middle eastern dog breed that is naturally animal aggressive and has been bred to be so for thousands of years (the Persian Mastiff aka. ''Sarabi'') and if I train it or try to do anything to counter his aggression, I will just end up making the same mistake I did with our German Shepherds when we were advised to protection train them - and I will, once again, end up with a dog that is not aggressive enough and barks and snaps his muzzle too much, instead of just attacking...
    Why do I need my dog to say aggressive and why do I want it to attack and not be ''protection trained"? I live in quite a poor country, which in addition to wildlife threats that we constantly encounter in our back yard, we also have a legitimate issue with Arab immigrants going through peoples properties and with G*psies stealing and vandalizing peoples things. We live right outside of the capital, no not the suburbs, we are in the last row of houses right on the edge of the town, right where the town ends and suburbs begin, with a forest starting where our left side of our back yard ends - meaning that we do have an enormous back and front yards but since we're practically in a busy town/area, we can't let the dogs roam free, especially not our Persian Mastiff...
    Could you (or anyone reading this) please try to answer my question or point me to the right direction, because I do not want to resort to paying for dog training again, because A. It is expensive and B. I don't want another, I hate to use this word but I have to - a useless dog who has been ruined by protection training. Our Persian Mastiff is perfect how he is right now - when he is at home that is - he has the right amount of human aggression and right amount of animal aggression, however, when I am walking him, I am basically forced to walk him muzzled and only at 6-7AM and 10-11 PM when there are barely any people and dogs walking around...
    So basically what I am asking is: I want to keep his level of independence and aggression but I also want to be able to walk him whenever, wherever and without a muzzle? I want to be able to take him out with us and our German Shepherds and when we get back home I still want him to attack anyone or anything that steps foot onto our property and not just bark and snap like our German Shepherds now do... Is that even possible to do?! If it is, how do I communicated to my dog that he is only allowed to do that while he's at home and not when he's out?! I've been trying to figure that out for 2 years now, ever since that protection training ruined our German Shepherds and I don't want the same to happen to our Persian Mastiff, because then I will end up with 3 very, very expensive protection dogs, that don't protect...
    Again, our Persian Mastiff is perfect how he is right now, aggression is not the issue, it's perfect in fact, that's just how we want him to be - I just want for him to be able to be walked out in public like a normal dog and not just by me but by my sons as well BUT without impacting his level of aggression when he is at home on our property. If possible, how do I do that?! Thanks in advance!

It’s the human behind the dog never the dog the lady has taught the dog how to do that by not correcting the first time. So this is actually a result of laziness sadly. When we take them away from their mothers as puppies you have to assume that role if you don’t this is what y’all get.
