For those of you too young to know what life was like before the Internet and to understand just how old this footage really is, here’s a bit of perspective.. I graduated HS in 1986. I’ll be 55 years old this year. FIFTY. FIVE. I never thought I’d live to see 40, which was considered “ancient” when I was 17. I’m older than the majority of my teachers were when I was in school. I’m 10 years older than my dad was on the day I graduated. That’s a mind numbing piece of reality to have to digest. But I’m at least in better physical condition than he was and I look and feel younger than my age. Credit a healthy lifestyle I guess. What you’re witnessing in all these old VHS videos people post on TH-cam are images of a culture of innocence, cooperation, hopefulness and true face to face interaction between people that no longer exists, and may never come again. The future was so bright we had to wear shades! But it was a future that didn’t come to pass. We’re more connected and yet more separated today than at any time in recorded history. It’s a strange and anxious time to be alive, but embrace it anyway. The future may still turn out to be better than the present, or even the distant past.
Yeah, I'm 53 so I can relate to your comment. The saddest part for me is that I know things can be this good again, right now if people could just get over themselves. It's a shame. There seems to be an interest in the 80s now, kinda like we liked the 50s. I really hope kids embrace that and learn that it's people, not governments who hold power. An old man's prayer I guess. I mean nothing by this, just sharing a thought, not a critique. Have a good day.

As an Aussie, I always like hearing these southern American accents. They just sound so pleasant to the ear. Question: Are the accents still like this or are they not quite as pronounced now? When I watch video footage of Australia in the 80s, the accent does sound a bit broader and I wondered if that was the same in other countries.
It's probably not as frequent but still common. I'm in rural Virginia and while plenty of older people have one, not many kids do. I will say tho I've never met a Texan without one lol
Yes, there are many different types of southern dialects that very much still exist. Usually more outside of major cities but even then they're there! I'm from the state of Georgia and grew up in a small town and it took years to stop speaking with a southern accent. Sometimes I can't help it but I do try. Edit: a word

I was 5 in 1986, & the girl at 8:26 (who's also in the thumbnail) is the type of older girl I always envied & admired when I was little-I'd look at their big hair & makeup, & the fashions they wore & thought they were so cool. I'd fantasized about how one day when I was older, I'd wear those things (ofc, I didn't though, as by that time it was the late 90s & styles were different)
Honestly it wasn't that different. Every factor depended. For example each age group was vastly different. I promise you, I was there. The 6 yea rolds had an entire different life and look so to speak. But for highschool, yes, this in fact would be the classic 86 pop culture. True.

It looks like 1986 but I don't remember any camcorder being as small as the one that the man is holding at 6:02. Only recorded a few kids acting like silly teenagers, that was the best part of being kids in the 80s! Cool vid!
The only reason cams were so big was they had to take a full sized vhs. When they made small vhs tapes it greatly reduced the size of the camera. Then you would put the small vhs in this bracket thay let you use it in a vhs player.
No offense to the people in this or the vid maker. I grew up in CA graduated in '89 was a sophomore when this was shot. I love how the attitude and styles of these kids/staff is still in 1982 or so. Time-warped to fit their culture. Now with the internet, everyone acts/looks like they're from CA in 2019 or so. Everyone's homogenized and no more regionalism or local character. Also, I hear lots of southern accents, see lots of black, white and other race students all interacting in good faith and acting very respectfully and mostly focused on academics/athletics in their demeanor. To hear the lefties out here in CA and nationally tell it, this time/place should have been the heart of white privilege, post-Jim Crow racism and racial division due to "inequity". I see _none_ of that here. Not that one vid can tell the whole story and nobody in any part of the U.S. can say there weren't occasional cultural problems/disagreements that came up from time to time back then. But from what I have seen here and in other vids from other parts of the nation shot around this time in various venues, we as a people have been lied to about who and what we were and are, in the worst and most pernicious way.
Yes it is as you say, everything we were taught is lies. History is a set of lies agreed upon. Delve into it you'll see. When you realize the enormity of the deception it's unsettling....I was class of '83, fyi. Been a while. I'll be 59yo in three days. Crazy

Crazy
8:12 Dude had a sword at school. No big deal. We had shotguns in our back windows.
No shit man!
I wish I could go back to 80's. There was none of this gender confusion bs. Jokes could be said without being triggered into a hysterical monster. There were no "safe spaces." The list could go on and on.
This High School Video was first recorded 38 years ago.
Nostalgic
Girl at 8:20 actually had 70's hair but it was popular enough it stuck around way into the 80s thanks to people like farrah fawcett
That's 80s bro
That girls hair at 8.22 so pretty 🩷🩷😍
Pretty much the high school I went to.
Wednesday, January 1, 1986.
that x wing at the start looks awesome!
Back when a gallon of gasoline was cheaper than an extra large can of I Super Hold Aqua Net Hairspray!!!
@skeetermcswagger0U812 And, also a time when cans of *Aquanet* hairspray were blamed for damaging the *ozone layer,* and *gasoline* and *pollution from manufacturing* were never even mentioned. 🤔😆
@@amg9163 True but that was before EV vehicles were proven to be more harmful than gasoline, diesel, coal and the propane in Aquanett hairspray combined!!!😄
Funny how letterman jackets are still trendy😄
McGavock H S is in Nashville, TN.
You can tell the innocence on their eyes...no internet, no social media, no mobile phones, no talking to screens...just reality. World nowadays is awfull.
Is there an IROC somewhere outside in the parking lot?
I would've been 11 & 12 yrs of age. These were the teens I looked up to.
For a second I thought he was gonna wonder inside the girls locker room
"can that thang record what were sayin" lol cute
It seems so long ago. 😢
Everyone looks the same.
I graduated in 1981 but, the chicks were really (naturally) hot in the 80’s. I married at pro cheerleader (living in Florida) in 87’ so, was hot for me! 🤙🤙🤙
Florida girls were pretty
And bush
They all look like their adults already no phones, no social media just class acts
Pleasant school and people! Imagine all the drugs and problems that same school has today.
Yeah because there was no drugs in the 80s lmfao
Man do I wish I was this age back then. The girls were all so naturally beautiful and just seemed so feminine. Seeing that today is a rarity.
I was born in 86 wow the teenage looked so much older
@@solofemaletravelerme that was a different class of teenagers back then.
So much prettier and more feminine.
Nah every generation says that. I said that about my parents' class, and your kids will say your class looks so old too.
8:17 you can tell the cameraman is under a spell 😂😂
Him: “Well we’re gonna ask yew um.. what do you do which.. yew um.. tryin’ ta keep a secret all the time?”
Her: “…do what?”
Cracks me up every time 😂
Yes 💯
I wonder where life took the guy in the wheelchair at 1:24? What did he study in college/Uni? What did he end up becoming in his career? I hope he's doing well.
Phones destroyed authentic social interactions
Fr
This was back when all of the girls were still slim, feminine, and cute.
Yes, there were no fat, ugly girls in the 80s, not one.
7:06 woah this moment has 50's vibe idk why
I think may be because (as a grad of "87) I can say we liked the 50's kinda like gen z seems to like the 80's. Diners that still had their old soda fountain bars from the 50's were really chic for example. 😊
@@TroySpencer-c3e and now we are obsessed with 80's lol😭
Guys if you had a choice to grow up and go to school and live your days again which city would you chose??? I would chose Chicago.
8:15 that girl is stunning wow
Looked like everyone had decency. Hate to admit it but the Internet ruined us.
3:30... well damn!
Beans are dope
I graduated 10 years before this, yup I'm a Dinosaur.
How did these ladies make their hair so big??
Perms, curling irons, Aqua Net.
It was an art lol
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson went to this School around this time.
Would’ve been cool seeing him in the video raising his eyebrow. 😂
the uniform for the medical science girls was so cute!
12:56 Lionel Ritchie
8:06 the kid who take no responsibility even when you catch him in the act
8:16 the teacher trying to hit on the hot girl in school
Back in the day what was considered extreme in the 80s is todays normal
1. In the 80s girls were shy to be on camera, now they do only fans
2. Cosplay and dresssing up as your favorite character in the 80s you was labeled the strange kid, now it is finally considered cool
3. 80s boys and girls bathrooms. Today just bathroom
4. To be continued
Class of 1988 Tennessee here. One point of contention; "Dressing up/cosplay as your favorite character was weird but now it's considered cool".
Uuhhh NO. 😂 Sorry but, no it is not.
But that's OK, the public cos player just doesn't have to worry about being dunked in a toilet now.
Sincerely love your comment tho. I was a gear-head/jock/nerd back in high school & was one of the guys who was welcome in every group because I shared many different interests & just didn't judge harshly. I loved everyone & what they brought to the table character-wise.
I played baseball but, built a 1971 Chevelle Malibu350 convertible in 1985 which I still own & drive today.
I had a Commodore 64 computer w/2-disc drives + a modem. It was a serious & great rig but did not consume my life.
I graduated down the road from McGavock at Oakland HS, Murfreesboro, TN.
Great times.
3:00 thats the moment when you fall in love and also realize this blonde girl is like 50s nowadays if she got there.
My sister was going there then. My Sister Sonya was beautiful!!! I miss her so much. She would be 53. The girl there looks familiar. All Sonya friends were beautiful and I was in love lol. I'm 46 I liked them a little older.
@@scottsummers4115 sorry for your sister, i hope you doing well.
I was In the 1st grade In 1986 and this video Is nostalgic.
I graduated high School . . two years before this video was made . . . Lucky me . . . I wouldn't change it for anything . . . Class of 1984 .
8:15 she was a video vixen before that was a term.
8:24/See, this is the kind of girl that I would have definitely dated... when I was back in highschool!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
