As someone who lives in a very rural area of the US, I’m so jealous that you can travel via great public transit! I hate having to drive really far just to get groceries (and having a car in general) but also love living in the woods among such awesome wildlife ❤Wonderful video and look into your lovely library, per usual! 😊
I grew up in a really rural area with no public transport, so I completely understand! My school was the only school in the area, and it was an hour away! It is great to live where we live, and be surrounded by trees, but still close to the perks of the city!
I am currently an elementary teacher who is dreaming of being a librarian. Your videos are really inspiring. You are convincing me everyday to make the leap and change careers. Thank you for providing hope that people can actually love their job.
Also a teacher turned librarian! 👋🏼🩷 I feel so lucky everyday that I get to do what I do. It’s also important for me to share that I didn’t know what I “want to do when I grow up” until well into my 30s (with 2 kids!). It’s not too late x
This was such an incredible vlog and spending this day with you was amazing! I also enjoyed so much the soundtrack you chose ❤ I love the fun, creepy and interesting things you experienced today and shared with us, thank you so much ❤❤❤
Thank you for your videos. I have always been interested in this kind of work after working in a bookshop in Singapore for a few years. The hardest part is deciding 'do I want to work as a librarian or an archivist?'. Both interest me very much.
Oh me too!!! I love both! ❤️📚 I’m halfway through my MIS and I still haven’t decided! 😆 I think I’m visiting the college archives next week - hopefully I can film there too! 🤞🏼
The college and library is beautiful and there are nice places to sit outside and eat lunch and read …… loved seeing the city of Melbourne I am down there in a week to see the beautiful city again can’t wait 😊❤ ……..enjoy working in that library just a beautiful place to work 📖💕
So glad to find an Aussie doing these type of videos. Do you use textbooks for your studies or are they a thing of the past now? I wanted to be a librarian when I was a little girl but did not pursue that career as I talked too much and back in the '90s libraries were shhhhhh places. I have begun thinking "what if" so would be interested in reading a text book on the library stidoes as I can't afford to do the course while I am a stay at home Mum to my 9 year old autistic daughter.
They’re big days travelling into the city, but I’m so enjoying the placement! It’s so different from my regular job in a public library! I’m learning so much, and it’s been a great experience so far! ❤️ Thanks for watching! x
What a beautiful campus! Shout out to the 200s! :D I'm curious, is it typical for academic libraries to use Dewey in Australia? In Canada, the majority of academic libraries us LC, although there are some that do opt for Dewey instead.
I would say in my experience, Dewey is the most common classification system used. However, I know the Dalton McCaughey library nearby Trinity uses the Pettee Classification System! I can’t wait to visit them and learn more about it!
Thank you for sharing, I learn so much about what it means to be a librarian through your videos! I'm just wondering.. Have you met many previous teacher librarians who have been successful in getting librarian roles in public or academic libraries without needing to retrain with another MLIS degree?
Yep! One of the compulsory subjects of the Master of Information Studies includes a 10 day work placement. Fortunately, my university is flexible in the way you do your 10 days, so instead of doing 2 weeks full time work, I’m doing one day a week for 10 weeks so I can work it around my part time library work and my family 😊👍🏼 The Leeper Librarians are so lovely and I’ve been learning so much from them! 📚
As someone who is interested in working in an academic library setting, what recommendations do you have to help me “get my feet wet?” I’d hate to spend all this money going back to school without being sure this is for me
Volunteering or work placement! Definitely. Most libraries have programs for both. You can go in in person and ask, or email the organisation and ask them. Our library takes high school students for week-long work placements as well - we have a whole program to make sure they get a thorough and well-rounded experience of the industry. It’s a great idea to do some research before you commit! 👍🏼
The TH-cam channel video's SEO rating is poor of Due to this your subscribers and views are not increasing, and the titles, descriptions, and keywords SEO should be done correctly only then you will get good results. the same problem in Video every.

@@very.casual.librarian is the book you are reading good ? I often wonder what that author is like 📖💘
I loved it! ❤️ I’ll def read more Sarah Morgan - very cute, comfort read!
Hi🎉
Oh I want some cold! It’s 110 degrees where I am🥵
Can’t wait to watch your video
🥶🥶🥶
Re: the unique, uh, gargoyles: Perhaps they were put up there as a warning, to discourage anyone else from founding a college there 😆
😝😝😝

All my texts are online for my course, but there are some great text books out there! The Patron Driven Library by Dee Allison is great!
What a long day! How interesting. I love to learn from you! Beautiful campus! Mi us the heads! Ha!

Plenty! 😊👍🏼 Experience definitely counts! ❤️
Thanks for sharing. Is that part of the degree to do work placement? looks like you had heaps for fun.

ABSOLUTELY! I have been loving this experience! ❤️📚
