Thank you, Ange for doing this, especially at a time when you are starting a new job. Your Advent vlogs were a sweet little highlight of the day. I truly love bookish conversations and you make us fellow librarians proud! FYI: You sent me momentarily in a little panic yesterday, until I realized that Austrailia is one day ahead of the States. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
OMG HAHAHAHA OH NO!!!! 😆 Merry Christmas from Australia! Thank you so much for being here xxx

Merry Christmas Robyn - thanks so much for your support x
Lovely Vlog! I smiled when I saw you were reading a book by Sarah Morgan 😊. I am currently also reading a book by Sarah Morgan: "The Holiday Cottage." I really liked her book "The Book Club Hotel." 🙂
I liked the Bookclub Hotel too! Can confirm that Snowed in for Christmas was wonderful ❤️
Sounds interesting! 😊👍🏽@@very.casual.librarian
The only classic book I read besides Anne of green gable is Agatha Christie’s books… classic murder mysteries 🎄📚🎄
Love her! ❤️
@ did you hear that John marsden (Aussie author ) died so sad to hear such a good author 💞
I know!!! What a shock! Amazing author!
97F! Stay cool.
🥵☀️ A hot one! We all hid inside in the Air conditioning for the day!
I forgot to tell you that Second wagtail ridge book is out on jan 1 called The knitting club at wagtail ridge by Janet Gover just thought you would like to know 🧡…… 🎄📚🎄
Oh I loved the first one - so glad you recommended it! ❤️
Hi Ange, I can’t even remember question 1 after question 2: YES YES YES!! There are never enough hours in a day, a year or a lifetime 😢😂 and Question 3 I have never had a crush on book characters, I have gotten very fond of some and others I have felt like crushing them 😂 Loving these questions. This is the first time I have watched a Vlogmas Video of any kind and have loved it! I can’t wait till next Christmas’s one now 🙄 but I will be patient as I don’t want to wish any of those precious reading hours away🙂
😆 This is my first time ever doing vlogmas! I’m so glad you found and enjoyed it! ☺️❤️
Love the food bank donations! 💚❤️
Feels good, and it’s good to get the kids to do it, and make them aware that there are kids with families doing it tough in the area. Help them appreciate things and get a bit of perspective.
@ Agree
I look forward to this series everyday! I’m going to be so sad when it’s over! I’ve really enjoyed these questions and your answers. I don’t know if your husband helped with these but if he did, he did an incredible job! Merry Christmas!! Have a wonderful time with your family!
Yes, my husband gets full credit for finding all of these questions online and hiding them in the advent calendar for vlogmas! He did a great job! 😊
I don’t have a number of books as last year I planned to read 60 books as I was turning 60 and it turned into a task instead of enjoyment don’t get me wrong I read some really good books but then life got busy and near the end of the year is when it felt pressure but I did get to 61 😊 but this year on good reads I set the goal at 1 book and this year so far I read 40 😳 I was really surprise by that as I wasn’t tracking the number and I had a few reading slumps in there and without a number in my head I enjoyed this year …. 😊 and YES who wouldn’t want More time to read … 😂should be a national day off to read 😂 I would love to get paid to read 🧡 ……🎄📖🎄
Yep - I let go of the numbers! Too much pressure! Sucks the joy out of reading for me.
My dude! Do you even know me? 😂😂😂😂 I love to have the brain to have more reading time! I struggled in 2024! I’ve been kind to myself and read lots middle grade and easier reads. I don’t have crushes on book characters. 😂 it’s been a great 22 days coming to your house for a visit! Thank you! ❤🇨🇦
😂😂😂
I don't think "a crush" explains it 😊 but it belongs to Jamie in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Up to when he left Scotland, then I lost interest. Can't watch the TV series, I liked the books more.
I can’t think of a character in a book that I’ve had a crush for, but I’ve had several for characters in Tv-series. It’s strange.
Mince pies! They are my favourite Christmas treat. My mum used to make them but now we just buy them. I read loads of books while in school as well! Enid Blyton’s Mallory Towers, Noel streatfield’s (sp) Ballet Shoes series to name I my two! I’m sure your colleague loved their gift!
I remember enjoying Ash Road by Ivan Southall, so much so that I asked for my own copy for my birthday. Loved the book but hated the cover 😄. An American teacher at primary school read the Bobsey Twin books to us, they were another favourite of mine. Anything by Enid Blyton, in particular the Magic Faraway Tree, The Wishing Chair and of course The Famous Five. So many wonderful memories.
I loved the Naughtiest Girl in the School series and the Mallory Towers series by Enid Blyton too!
Hi Ange, We have never heard of rolling in the wrapping paper as a tradition. It sounds so good we would make it our tradition if we had more presses and wrapping paper! 😂 I used to love watching my cat jump around and roll in it, she looked like she was having so much fun. I love ripping into it to see what’s inside the best and I love watching everyone open their presents too. Are you going to make that your blog activity on Christmas Day and give us the enjoyment of watching?😂
It’s mandatory in my family - if you got a gift, and you can get down to the floor: you must roll. Extra points for creative dives and energetic writhing!
@ 👍😂😂😂
The books I most remember reading in school were the Ramona series from Beverly Cleary, which I used to borrow from the primary school library. Also remember being obsessed with the Baby Sitters Club series. The only author I’ve met was Bryce Courtney when he did a bookstore signing in the 90s. I was only there because my mum wanted to go meet him. ☺️
Off the top of my head rereads: Mary Oliver’s poetry, Austen, and a new one, James by Percival Everett.
I have not heard of that one! 🤔 Going to look it up now!
@ It’s a retelling of Huck Finn, and won the National Book award. I really like it.
I read the famous five by Enid blyton , The three investigators by Alfred Hitchcock and Agatha Christie I think too many to list lol 😂,and I have met a lot of authors but my favourite would have been Monica McInerney just loved her which I have meet her few times , her books are just so good and loved getting my books signed by her……🎄📖🎄
I’d totally forgotten those Alfred Hitchcock books, I remember them being very popular in our primary school library 😂
@ they were so good , one of the titles I can remember was The secret of the whispering mummy , just loved them read them heaps of times 🎄📖🎄
I visited a library at the start of this year 😬😬 I love to display my books on my shelves I do read a bit more on my kindle so I really only have the physical books I have on my shelves are the ones I love 🧡 sometimes i can predict but I still read on to see if I am right 😂 it’s so funny of your husband to write a question about library’s 😂….. 🎄📖🎄
He found these all online for us! But I think he would’ve had a giggle including that one! 😆
Tuesday I picked up The Women in Black by Madeleine St John based on the Hilary Mantel recommendation on the cover, “The book I most often give as a gift to cheer people up”. Reading is competing with holiday knitting and cleaning, so I’ve only read five short chapters, but so far so good.
I read a Madeleine St John recently! It was great! Let me know what it’s like!
@ Will do. Wasn’t she shortlisted for the Booker?
@vickiebasu1080 actually yes I think she was… 🤔
@@very.casual.librarian The Essence of the Thing - having just read the author bio
I agree with revising your predictions all the way. Although I do second guess myself because if it seems really obvious I think, well, the author is going to pull a twist here, because it won’t be the obvious thing, will it? I hardly ever guess the ending from early on.
It’s more interesting that way! If the outcome is what I suspected from the beginning: It’s SO DISAPPOINTING! 😩
What a great cafe bookshop idea, I would need to travel to Australia from the UK to visit it!
Hahahaha give me a few years! 😅 In the meantime, come visit us anyway! 😊👍🏼
I wondered where you’d got to😂. Pretty nails! I like to think I’m good at predicting plot lines, but I don’t want to be right! How boring would that be! I have t been to a library since the summer. I’m trying to read my shelves! It snowy and foggy here today so it definitely cost reading weather.
Yep - me too! Time to pick some summer holiday reads! 🥰☀️
I always look forward to your Vlogmas videos 🥰. I went to the library five days ago 😅.
The Very Casual Librarian heartily endorses this comment 😊👍🏼📚🩷
Hi Ange I so want to come to your treehouse!! Libraries used to be my introvert cosy heaven until they modernised them to today’s standard. Bah Humbug progress😢😂.
I know right?! I loved my job at the public library, but sometimes, I did miss the traditional library silence… my new academic library where I work is a bit more traditional - quiet talking only.
Your fantasy bookshop sounds wonderful. I love craft markets so perhaps your shop could include some handmade goodies ❤
Oh it would. It definitely would 👍🏼
I want to come to your tree house!!!
All Bookworms are welcome! ☺️
I would visit your bookstore for sure, and spend time in the introverts room. My bookstore would have an area with comfy couches to read and would have a cafe for drinks. My bookstore would be a quiet zone like a traditional library. A good cover is a magnet for me. I’d like to retrain myself next year and not walk straight past the books with the ugly covers. ☺️
Ooh yes. Coffee roaster and barista on sight! Also a hot chocolate station so you can add your own marshmallows/cream/sprinkles….
Highly controversial opinion but I do not love the trend for genre shelving 🙃 Free browsing is the best thing about libraries and bookshops! I know myself and I could so easily read the same book by different authors for the rest of time. There is a unique freedom and challenge in alphabetical shelving that gently encourages people to be more adventurous readers. This is going to put me in high fuddy duddy territory, but the fact that my local library uses genre shelving for fiction drives me so bonkers that I travel over 30 minutes to another local government area to use their library solely because they still shelve their fiction alphabetically.
Oh they’d still be alphabetical by author within their genre. My librarian heart wouldn’t cope otherwise! 😅
This is my fantasy so back off had me rolling! 😂😂😂 your fantasy bookstore sounds like heaven!!! Don’t forget puzzles, word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Much like you, books were a large part of my childhood as my father was suffering for undiagnosed mental illness that made him unpredictable and I often stayed in my room with fictional friends. A specific book that saved my life is Gabor Mate’s When the Body Says No, the hidden cost of stress. My doctor had me read this 10 years ago when I had a mental and physical breakdown. I saw myself in parts of the book and was shocked that things I did as a child to self soothe were normal in the situation I was in, although I had no clue I was in, if that makes sense. I worked in a corporate bookstore for 7 years and I would never own my own store. Your bookstore, on the other hand… I’d rent a room there!😂❤🇨🇦
Yeah I think I’d have to build an apartment upstairs… 🤔😆 PUZZLES! YES - ABSOLUTELY.
Love your tree book house. You could call it sanctuatree!
Very clever!
@ 😝
😝😝😝
Love the hammocks and the slide! A book supplier/community hangout, yeah, definitely need to get folks off their screens and instead out reading, and, possibly, crafting in community, or not, ie the introverts quiet corner. Blankets provided with flashlights to replicate reading after lights out.
Ooh and fairy lights! LOTS of fairy lights!
I am a cover buy 😂 … love a beautiful cover …… books have changed my life there are always there through good and bad times …. As for my bookstore it would be at beach just off the sand with a covered deck so people could sit in nice relaxing chairs and just look at the beach while reading what they brought there would be a coffee / tea stand on the deck so people could read with a coffee or a iced tea …. And watch the waves coming in on the beach … plus on the beach just on the sand would be one of those book swap libraries and inside would be comfy chairs around a fire place fir the cold days and it would be just full of books everywhere and different areas to sit and choose books 🎄📚🎄 your book sounds good as well 🎄📚🎄
Treehouse Bookshop’s sister store: BEACH DECK BOOKSHOP 😍💙
Sounds good to me 📚📚
That's my kind of bookstore down to a tee ❤
Right?! I need it!
I’m with you on Colleen Hoover, just didn’t warm to her books at all. Same with Jodi Piccoult! Such popular authors I don’t gel with. I would love to meet Emily Brontë, although she was so introverted she may not want to meet me ;) also Beatrix Potter! Such an interesting lady. Love a good Aussie end of year school concert🎉
Oh Beatrix Potter!!! Yes!
Hello how's it going I always enjoy your vlogs these are amazing I'm studying Library and information science. It's my 3rd year of BS program I wanna ask, can i get the job as a librarian there in Australia kindly reply to me I'll wait
Hey good luck with your course! I don’t know much about the process of applying for jobs here from outside Australia. But I’d recommend starting with our national association (ALIA) website: www.alia.org.au
