  • Come to work with me today and see what it's like to work in a Library! (Have you always wanted to work in a library?)
I am not paid to advertise or endorse any service or product in this Vlog
Things I did not include in this VLOG:
    - It's 38ºC today and it's a SCORCHER. My hair's in a messy bun - not the cute kind!
    - It's too hot to cook dinner. We'll probably have cereal.
    - I sweat. ALOT. Like; Ugly Sweaty. And my face goes BEET RED.
Please do not compare your life with what someone else chooses to show you online. No one's life is "Insta Perfect" x

Hello from California 😊 I am a county law librarian and worked at a public library as a page during my MLIS program. So nice to see some nice library content. I love being a librarian with all my heart. Best career ever.

@sidrasheikh5941 It depends on the library, the country and the job! I can only speak for here in Australia: but for a customer service job, there’s no qualification required! A Library Technician requires a certificate, and to be a Librarian requires a University degree/Masters degree. Hope that helps!

I speak to my advisor on Tuesday about submitting application to University here in Ohio for my Masters in Library and Information Science! I am 43 and also an author / illustrator. Very excited about getting into this field as a complement to all of my passions. Hi! First off let me just say, you are SO underrated! Your videos are so peaceful and lovely. It's like instant relaxation the moment I click play.
Secondly, you mentioned you got a teaching degree before you went for your masters. I've been thinking of following that same path (I'm torn between becoming a teacher or a librarian, and I want to have the option by the time I finish college). Do you find that your education degree comes in handy with your current career? I know most MLIS courses don't require prior experience, but I still want to be picking up skills that could be helpful later on.
Again, your videos are fantastic! ❤❤❤

No joke. We work in the literacy provision and education business, and the 2 careers cross over beautifully! If I wasn’t working in the public library system, I’d def consider working in the school library system! I’m so glad I did my degrees this way!

I'm not sure what the process is in Gambia, but here in Australia you can either do a diploma, a graduate certificate, or a Masters in Information Science (Librarianship) at a Tertiary Institution (A university or college). I think it would definitelybe worth reaching out to the Librarians. working in the libraries locally to you, and asking them what the process is there, and what they did to get their qualifications. Good luck - it really is a wonderful career

Hi there! I'm so happy to have found this vlog! I'm based in Melbourne (Frankston actually), that library looks a lot like Carrum Downs Library but I could be way off! I've always thought about working in a library, but I'm not sure what pathway is best. I just got my Bachelor of Creative Writing, I work as a writer in an incredibly fast-paced marketing agency, I'd definitely enjoy the quieter setting. Should I go ahead and study the Master of Information Studies (Charles Sturt has a promising course that includes archives/children's literature/and librarianship as majors) or should I go for a Diploma? I would really love to have your professional opinion. My job is 9am-5pm 5 days a week so finding time to volunteer will be difficult.

But the masters gives you the full qualification and can open doors to more career paths… Your writing job would be an excellent background for the degree! I haven’t had to do any volunteering as part of my course as yet, but I do have a week’s work placement coming up. The course at Charles Sturt has been great so far! The lecturers are all so knowledgeable and passionate! 👍🏼

Honestly, I’m unsure of the exact process to immigrate from another country, so I can’t be very helpful about that… But many librarian jobs are advertised through ALIA ( www.alia.org.au/Shared_Content/Smart-Suite/Smart-Jobs/Public/All-Jobs.aspx?WebsiteKey=edf1c45a-3f94-4a6e-8d53-fb3b98341a89 ) or through the library service’s own websites - depending on where in Australia you’d like to be! (I recommend Melbourne 😊💕)

Good luck with your MLIS! I hope we see you soon! ❤️

A library assistant’s job is mostly helping library customers find what they need, or help to use technology. Good communication and phone skills are desired (teachers are already pros at communicating and teaching new skills to others! So you’re already ahead of the pack!) Teamwork, flexibility and availability are all desirable too! Good luck on your application!!! 🤞🏼 Hope this helps!

How to arrange books in librery?

    • @very.casual.librarian
      @very.casual.librarian  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It can vary from library to library, but in ours the adult books and the teen/children's books are separate. Then they are arranged as either fiction or non-fiction. Fiction are in alphabetical order, and non-fiction are arranged into genres, and also by dewey decimal system. Aside from books, we also have shelves for DVDs, magazines, games, CDs, audiobooks, and a seed library! Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment! :)
