The literal spoken word with the knife is actually "If you look down me, it will be regrettable". I understand it comes form a old Yakuza film. If you look later the video the voice mic she is holding the same knife microphone.
For clarification on the members the original trio was su, Yui and Moa. The three of them recorded 2 albums together. In late 2017 before the legend s show to celebrate Su’s 20th birthday they announced Yui was advised by her doctor to not perform. That was the beginning of her health hiatus. They went on tour in 2018 without Yui because she was still suffering from an undisclosed health issue. The 2018 tour is just su and Moa. They reorganized their choreography to have su and Moa in the center of the stage one in front and one behind on a platform and 2 dancers on the sides. Fans hated that setup. It was later announced in October 2018 a full year after Yui last performed with them that she had decided to leave the group as she still hadn’t recovered. She stated that she would like to meet fans one day as mizuno Yui not Yuimetal.
Once Yui officially withdrew from the group they had dancers in her spot. The first of which where the 2 girls who did the first half of the tour with them and 3 other girls. The five girls with su and Moa were dubbed the chooses 7. Fans were very mean to the five girls.
In 2019 they announced a trio of dancers that would alternate in Yui’s old spot they were called the avengers.
The first avenger was sayashi riho a very famous Jpop idol and former ace and center of the Jpop group morning Musume. Many were shocked that she came back to the spotlight as a backup dancer given her status a Jpop icon but she most likely did it because she and su went to school together in actors school Hiroshima. She is now signed to another label and is putting out solo music and has her own tv show. Riho did a majority of the 2019 world tour. She stopped being the avenger during the middle of the Europe leg. She returned for the tour finally in Japan. She is one of the avengers in the da da dance music video.
The next avenger was fujihira Kano. She was the youngest avenger born in 2004. Like the original trio she was a member of the idol group Sakura gakuin. She is currently in an all girl idol group @onefive. Kano was the avenger the least amount of times only doing shows in Japan. She is the avenger in the shanti shanti shanti, elevator girl, and papaya music videos.
The last avenger introduced was Okazaki momoko. She was also a member of Sakura gakuin. She did an interview at sg and the asked her what she want to do when she grows up and she said she would like to travel the world as a backup dancer. They also asked her if she could join any group what would she join she answered babymetal. She is one of the avengers in the da da dance music video. She was the only avenger that did the entire 2019 world tour. She was also the only avenger to perform with babymetal after the pandemic.
In 2022 babymetal teased a comeback and Momoko is one of the faces that can be seen in the teaser. She returned dancing with babymetal in the 2 January 2023 shows they did where she was featured in the light and darkness music video. At the end of the second day they teased Momoko becoming an official member of babymetal. They then performed on the first take where they again teased Momoko becoming a member. On April 1st 2023 at the end of the babymetal begins black night momoko was revealed as an official member under the stage name MOMOMETAL. She has the same position as Moa and Yui being scream and dance. Momo isn’t on any official Babymetal song as the album was recorded before she became an official member. Momo now rocks a hybrid of the avengers and Yui and moa’s hair styles. She has her hair half down and half up in 2 twin tails. She has 2 music videos as an official member mirror mirror (her first music video) and Metalizm

Fans were enjoying and having so much fun seeing this live every night at Sabaton's Europe Tour and recently at Asian Tour, they also announced another Europe headline tour in November, along with the Babyklok Tour, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown.
This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri).
"Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them.
During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance.
In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox.
"Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself.
When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it.
Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts.
The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary:
The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘
Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀
This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want.

Great reaction. 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive (you have a 9 tailed fox tattoo - I suspect you already knew that).
It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe.
Feel free to do another reaction to a live version if you want to, nobody will complain. Su's live vocals coupled with the Kami Band's instrumentals and then with the energy of a good live audience just make the whole thing more special.
I would recommend live at the Red Fox Festival with an all female audience (the Babymetal Reactor Resource has that I believe).

Kitsune is the Japanese word for fox and megitsune, a female fox or vixen. The patron god in BABYMETAL lore is The Fox God, and even their hand-sign is the kitsune or fox-sign. Grington300 300 (treasure trove of BABYMETAL lore that he is) has already left a comment that more specifically elaborates on this song's meaning.

Yeah, next song you have to do the full dance with pigtails in your hair. The dancer Yui left in 2018 for health reasons, they used a temp person(s) in the 3rd spot for a few years. They just added a new permanent member (MomoMetal) recently for the 3rd slot.

Much of the symbolism in the games they are playing, the dress, sitting in front of the makup mirror and the kimono dance scene allude to what is expected of a 'proper' young lady in Japan. One of the lines in the song "Ah, girls are becoming more like an ideal woman Smiling at face, crying at heart Saying "It's right", we never show our tears" and then later "Woman are Actress." You can really see the allusions to the ideas in their dance moves during a live concert as well. This is a powerful song for young girls, my wife, who is Japanese told me it moved her the fist time she heard it.
They have a lot of great songs, byu this one is by far my favorite.. and watched them live for a first time last month on tour with Sabaton was really a life changing experience

Nice reaction. That was filmed in areal Shinto temple in Japan. The part where Su is brushing her hair is taken from a horror film from Japan. They turned it Kawaii by having Yui and Moa look in on Su with the Fox masks. Some other cool facts about the video. The parts where Yui and Moa are playing are them really playing. They just gave them jacks and filmed them. Yui and Moa were a great duo. Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons that have never been disclosed to the public. For 5 years Su and Moa went on as a duo with back up dancers. This year. Momoko who was one of those backup dancers. Was promoted to full fledge member. Which is great. While in Sakura Gakuin. The jpop group the Babymetal started out in back when they were the heavy music club of that group. Momoko said she wanted to be a dancer for a big named artist. which she got to do as a backup dancer. But she also said back then she wanted to become a member of Babymetal. Which everyone got a big laugh out of at the time because Yui was still with them and there was zero talk of adding members. For Babymetal the trio had always been thought of as the perfect number for them. So, it made it extra hard to go on as a duo. Now after all these years of wanting chocolate Su gets to tour with her M&M's. Moa and Momoko. LOL. The next part in the video I like to talk about is the part where Moa seems to float across the floor. She said she really slid across the floor because it was very slippery, and she crashed into Yui. Which of course they both got a big kick out of it. Lastly another nod to a movie. When Su pulls her now famous knife mic out. She says Maidens are not to be underestimated. Which is from a Japanese gangster movie. The daughter of the mob boss says it. a famous movie line in Japan. According to Su she kept that prop. It may end up in a museum someday. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

The guitar thing is a shamisen, a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument.
You can hear its distinct sound at the beginning.

They mix modern & traditional music using a lot of instruments like the shamisen like koto, taiko drums & even a shakuhachi which is a flute Buddhist monks use.
This girls are Shrine maidens(Miko|巫女) from Fox God, it's not joke and even now Mikos are generally. Fox Gods are Rich harvest Gods, maybe like Frey!

If you want a real music video watch Distortion. The Distortion video with The Chosen Seven doing battle is pretty cool. That being said, Babymetal is best viewed in a live format. Road of Resistance - Live in Japan is a good one. Catch Me If You Can (with Kami Band intro) Live at Budokan Black Night is a silly song, but showcases the Kami band really well.

Su: born 1997, main singer. A bit awkward and goofy when young. Very good singer. Takes it very serious. She is the metal goddess.
Moa: born 1999, always smiling, very light hearted and nice girl. Beautiful. Loves food. Good dancer.
Yui: born 1999, the cute one. A bit weird. Loves tomatoes. Odd kind of humor. The most exact dancer.
Moa and Yui were best friends since very young years, like long before school. Moa and Yui also was Black Babymetal, for mischievous songs.
Yui left 2018. For reasons kept secret. And totally disappeared.
Momoko was added 2023 as a replacement for Yui.
All four of them were bred out of an idol factory called Sakura Gakuin.
