BABYMETAL performed the Judas Priest Songs-Painkiller and Breaking The Law at Suzuka`s 20th Birthday feat. Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Chat Smith at London’s O2 Arena 2016

Japanese metal sensations Babymetal welcomed a special guest for their support slot at London’s O2 Arena on Sunday night. The band was finishing up their run supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the American band’s U.K. arena tour. As NME reported, Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith-with his face painted in the style of Babymetal backing musicians the Kami Band-hopped behind the kit after Babymetal performed their hit “Gimmie Chocolate!!!”
Smith busted out a drum solo before being joined by Babymetal for a Judas Priest medley that included the songs “Painkiller” and “Breaking the Law.” Another special moment came when Smith presented lead vocalist Su-Metal with a birthday cake for her 20th birthday before leading the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday.”
Suzuka Nakamoto, born December 20, 1997), known by her stage names Suzuka and Su-metal (both stylized in all caps), is a Japanese musician, singer and model. She is best known as a member of the kawaii metal band Babymetal. She is represented by the talent agency Amuse, Inc. and has been a member of three musical groups formed by the company: Karen Girl's, Sakura Gakuin, and Babymetal.
In 2002, Nakamoto won the Grand Prix in the Image Girl contest for Jewel Drop, a line of toy cosmetics produced by Bandai, subsequently starring in several Jewel Drop commercials.
In 2006, Nakamoto was admitted to Actor’s School Hiroshima (ASH). She studied with another future Sakura Gakuin member, Mariri Sugimoto, with whom she had been acquainted before attending the school. She also had a rivalry with Riho Sayashi, future Morning Musume member and Babymetal support dancer, as they were considered the school's top two students at the time.
In 2007, she was signed to the talent agency Amuse, Inc. after becoming a runner-up in the 2nd Star Kids Audition held by the company.
In 2008, her agency formed a trio called Karen Girl's, and Suzuka was selected to be in it. The group was introduced as a little sister of the girl trio Perfume and sang several theme songs for the anime Zettai Karen Children, disbanding on March 31, 2009, after the anime ended its run.
In April 2010, Nakamoto became a founding member of Sakura Gakuin, an idol group created by her agency. The group members also formed sub-units called “clubs”, each of which released their own songs as a unit. Suzuka became a member of the “Heavy Music” club which released songs under the name Babymetal, which also included fellow Sakura Gakuin members Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi.
In the spring of 2013, Nakamoto graduated from junior high school and therefore had to "graduate" from Sakura Gakuin (which limits girls up to the junior high age). Her graduation concert was held on March 31 at the Tokyo International Forum.Suzuka now performs with Babymetal, which had been spun off from Sakura Gakuin following her graduation, under the stage name Su-metal. Babymetal's self-titled debut album was released in February 2014.
Nakamoto ranked ninth place on the Oricon News ranking for “2018 Rankings for Anticipation of New Adults”, commenting on her "overwhelming singing ability".
Suzuka is the youngest of three sisters.Her second sister, Himeka Nakamoto, is a former member of the idol group Nogizaka46. They studied together at the Actor's School Hiroshima (ASH) and sang together in a duo known as Tween.
Babymetal is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (Vocal and Dance), Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" (Scream and Dance) and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (Vocal and Dance), Moametal (Scream and Dance), and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" (Scream and Dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia.
On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017.

Every one is saying she didnt sound her best but to me she killed it cuz the band was spot the fuck on and she owned it. She had a blast and looked cute as hell doing it.

The size difference between Chad Smith and the Babymetal girls always makes me think of Gandalf talking to the hobbits.
I have watched this a few times but I now just noticed how Sue takes her earpieces out (6:49) so she can hear the crowd better. I think that is just a great gesture and shows her appreciation for the fans.

The moment I saw this performance, I knew Su had become an actual metalhead. You do NOT go out there and sing Painkiller without having balls of steel. Shes having fun too, letting loose. Out of her element but completely in it. She really could front a traditional metal band if she so chose. Voice cracks and all, this was just plain fun to watch.
Something to note is how well she is incorporating Rob Halfords on stage mannerisms. She watched him closely when they performed together, she is really paying homage. What a freaking pro.
The genuine, complete shock and humility with the birthday wish is one of those moments that sticks with you forever. Chad completely broke her, her reaction is so priceless, so honestly sweet, i dare say sweeter than the cake itself. I loved every moment of that.

While people have pointed out this isn't her best performance in general, it's worth noting that she barely speaks any English so with that considered she is doing a pretty damn good job of singing it without a super heavy Japanese accent.

It takes mad confidence and tits of steel to just go and sing songs that are not bringing out the best of your voice, but you do it for fun. Publicly. In front of hundreds, then thousands... And just don't care. You do it and you rock it and you have the most fun ever. Su, you're a queen everyway!

I just don't see that. I mean I agreed with you at first, then realized BABYMETAL could just do their normal set and leave. Kinda risking everything by doing off the script stuff, like is it okay with Judas Priest they do their song? What if Su pulls a vocal cord trying to sing Rob, that guy lives and breathes in the high registers. Etcetera...

The three little girls looked exactly the same when they saw the cake coming out, which was quite touching. I thought she would cry (because she was stunned) when the picture was close-up of SU, but she held back, and finally When the cake was handed back to the musicians, Moa and Yui said thank you one after another. Although this is not their birthday, I can feel the tacit understanding and deep affection between the three of them.
All in all, this birthday scene is quite touching...

I think Su tried to break out of her element and it looked like she had fun here on her birthday. Metal from around the late 70's through the 80's had a certain amount of grit and grunting to it that naturally Su wasn't able to pull off but she tried and I love her and Babymetal. A good example would be in the movie cyborg where Vincent Klyn always made that rrrrraaaaawwwwhhhhh! sound.
But it shows intent. I think she is thinking ahead, what comes after Babymetal. And I think Su-meal will stay in the metal genre, but she may leave the Kwaii metal subgenre.
This was improvised live and fun. I think she can pull off incredible stuff with right type of training and people around her that let her.
MaskinJunior Su’s voice is Su’s voice. She is never going to do the growling coarse singing. It’s just not what her voice is. No amount of training can overcome that.
It’s also better that way, Su has great range butthete is stuff she can’t do and that’s fine. No one can do everything
@@geiseric222 Go listen to Jinjer Pisces Live session with Tatiana. Growling is a singing technique, it has nothing to do with your vocal cords or singing range, growling is outside everyone's range. And I think she has the discipline and dedication to train the right way and master it.
I like this! No accurate choreography, nothing needs to be 100% perfect. Just having fun on stage with two fantastic songs and the great Kami Band also got it's time in the spotlight. A nice surprise!

You realise Babymetal is fucking insanely popular right? Maybe not so much in western audiences and Kingslayer will definitely help them here but their shows are huge in Japan
Just sayin, their newest album they already became the first ever Asian band to reach number 1 on the Billboard US Rock Albums chart. It's not like they are an obscure band that nobody knows about.
@@deanwilsonmusic Sure. But even as popular as they already are, they can still be bigger and they deserve it. If they keep growing, maybe an Arena tour in the US could be feasible. Su has said that she wants to perform at MSG and they have to keep growing to be able to do that.
@@galdanag They were named the 10th greatest metal band of all time earlier in 2020, so if their desire is to be #1 then yeah they have room to grow. But if you have seen them in interviews all they want is to make people smile and enjoy their music. Fame and fortune are the farthest things on their ind.

This is one of my favorite videos to watch when I want to feel good. Painkiller is not an easy song to sing even if you're fluent in English. My one question is who put the trick candles on the cake because it clearly wasn't Chad. Lol
I think the trick candles were necessary so they didnt go out as he walked on stage with the cake. Having trick candles made sure they were all still lit when he gave it to Su. Im sure they were fun too but they were needed for more than fun.

This is amazing - it shows the potential for Babymetal to truly do more conventional rock performances. I think Koba should build this sort of thing into every concert. What's also interesting is the interaction between Su and the band, which we rarely get to see otherwise. Great video!!

Why? BABYMETAL doesn't need to colab with anyone. Not to mention, Suzukas voice isn't that good for covers. It's fucking perfect in BABYMETAL. I pray they stop collaborating with bands. And never do any covers. Other bands need to be covering BABYMETAL.

@@BAND-MAID-USA Suzuka has one in a million voice that suits Babymetal perfectly. Which is why Koba built the band around her (Yui, Moa and The Kami Band). Although, I would love to see some collaboration between Su and other metal bands to create an original song that suits her voice or vice versa. Like how Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy covered her part for Distortion. It's a cool and epic way to show that the Metal Community are one.
