  • A Film by Barry Godin - Bikepacking In The Peak District - Filmed by Barry Godin and Allen Boardman
    Allen and I set off after Jennride in the Lake District to the Peak District to have a mini adventure. We started in Hope and up to find the incredible descent of cave dale down to Castleton. We then up the collapse road and up to Mam Tor, across to Edale Cross and down to the Ladybower Reservoir. The second day was a great descent to Ladybower Inn and then over to Stanage Edge.

    Nice one. Good memories of mountain biking and walking brought back as I have done quite a few bits of the trail you filmed.
    Lucky with the go pro. My friend dropped her phone last week on the trail. It was found by a dog walker and we had it back in 20 mins.
    There are a lot of nice people out there.

    Finally sat down to watch!!! Brilliant as ever Barry and as mentioned on FB so pleased Allen got his GoPro back!!! Fond memories of Mam Tor - christened my then new MTB 25+ years ago!!!... Some fabulous trails down there and many a happy weekend going nuts on the downhills!!! I had my worst off ever the other side of Mam Tor and actually split my helmet!!! Great times so many thanks Barry (and Allen) for an epic film which has brought back many happy memories of a stunning part of the country to ride!! Cheers and looking forward to your next adventure!!!

      Oh yes Paul the descents off of Mam Tor and very tough! And back in the day! I feel like I am on a retro bike at times riding full rigid when I used to those trails on my full suspension bike. You just have to hold on and scream, haha. Sorry to hear you almost cracked you head open, Allen almost did the same, I was a bit scared seeing him in a pile as i rode down. He was just out of sight when he went over

Yes seeing Allen in a heap is exactly how I ended up with the bike on top of me... last one down that section and my two mates ran back to check I was okay!! I think that's my favourite of all your vids Barry. Stanage is a good shout for a bivvy - Pete McNeill once told me that you get fewer midges when you cross over into the dark peak, and up on Stanage you're right on the edge of it. Good view too.

    I’ve walked or cycled most of this route over the years, will have to string this all together on the MTB and get an overnighter in soon. Just completed a 74 mile gravel route wild camping at langsett reservoir, I’d forgotten just how brutal some of the bridleway decents can be in the peaks. Great video 👍

    • @afreenaimanabdrahman1409
      @afreenaimanabdrahman1409 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree. I often question whether the bridleways are meant to even be rideable on a bike let alone a horse

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes Tony! Bridleway doesn't mean rideable, I know from many years of experience there, especially in the lakes, those bridleways are crazy! I find the peaks are almost like a rideable lakes, so great warm up to going there next :-) Hope you had a great trip?

    You are certainly making up for your quieter spell in the film department, great to see and hear. Any regrets moving to a rigid forked bike packing rig? I'm toying with swapping my suss for rigid for weight loss and some luggs, but now not so sure 😉

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yes trying very hard here to keep them flowing out. I did promise there was going to be many! Well wait and see, but a little secret I am building up a new bike which can take suspension and rigid, to be able to swap between them. If it is a more mtb trip such as the lakes or peaks I would like to go and try suspension, but Iceland to long distance gravel will stick with rigid. You are right about the weight and fixing luggs
