I miss Olds. Growing up my parents had a '63 Delta 88. Later on a '73 Cutlass Supreme, which I did get to drive. For my first new car I bought an '86 Cutlass Supreme (V8). Loved that car. Had it for 11 years. By the time I needed to replace it Olds only had 2 models and I saw the writing on the wall, so that was my only Olds.

I used to have a 93 convertible that was my mothers. It was a executive car when she bought it and had it as her daily until 2000 when she bought a Pontiac bonneville SSEI with the supercharger. The cutlass was put away in our garage for 14 years because the alternator went out on it and didn’t want anyone but my dad to work on it but unfortunately he was too sick and passed away in 2007 from lung cancer. When I turned 14 I got the car out for my moms 50th birthday. I got it running, cleaned out the fuel tank, did a complete tune up on it, and I polished and waxed it and had it out in the yard with the top down so she could see it when she got home from work. She loved it so much she gave me the keys to the car and I drove it as my summer car until I turned 19. I took it to car shows all around Michigan and it actually won trophies for best paint and best original car. Unfortunately I had to sell it because I couldn’t keep up with the payments on it but it went off to a really good home. A lady who worked for Oldsmobile bought it and we still talk to this day and she said I can buy it back anytime I want but I’m not going to. Someone else deserves to have a nice car other than me.

I leased an Alero towards the end of Olds, and it was a nice, solid car. But my true love is the G-body era, meaning '81-'87 Cutlass. I've owned 6 of them over the years, and no other car feels quite like them on the road, in my opinion. I have two still now...one is an '87 that we drive in the summer, and the other is an '82 from Virginia (I'm in PA) that is in the garage as a project car. We also found an Olds 350 engine from 68-71 that will hopefully some day get married up with the '82. Supposedly it has Rocket heads on it!

When I was really young, I remember my family had a dark blue Oldsmobile Alero sedan, and it was our family car for about 5 years until we got into a pretty bad car accident in it. That car held up really well and was a tough car because after we got into the accident, we had it repaired and gave it to my grandma. She drove the car for about 10 years after that until she finally got rid of it. Haven’t seen that car since I was like 6. I’m now 17 and later on when I became a huge car enthusiast I found out that my parents had been driving Oldsmobiles for 20 years. My favorite Oldsmobile will always be the 442 and Cutlass. RIP Oldsmobile and Pontiac. Two of the greatest GM divisions in history.

Olds was supposed to be just below Caddy, in fact they tested out a lot of the tech found on Caddy's on Olds first (dimming external mirrors, for example). However Olds had to sell boats (88,98). But they were the GM division that had to appeal to potential BMW/Mercedes/Audi buyers, hence the Intrigue and Aurora. The DOHC LX5 (baby North Star) was used by no other division, where Pontiacs and Buicks had pushrod 3800's. Olds was also a me-too division, as they got rebadged minivans and compacts (Aleros). I have 2 Oldsmobiles currently - a 2003 Silhouette, and a 1998 88 Regency. Each has features different enough from other GM's, but not enough to differentiate them to customers. GM really had to pare down, and identity-crisis Olds was a pretty obvious choice.

Lieftime Olds owner including the original owner of an '87 442 I still own. I agree with you as it was a shame what the heads in Lansing did to Olds... GM quality wasn't that great leading up to Olds' end which didn't help either. I owned a new '93 Cutlass which was an expensive piece of crap as I sold it after three trouble-filled years, while keeping the '87 442 which is the best car I've ever owned.

Oldsmobile was mismanaged. It was supposed to be a step above the youth oriented Pontiac division but a step below the family oriented, semi luxury division of Buick. It should've been designed and marketed as the highbrow, chic and euro styled division with a technology edge to it. But in the end the powers that be were to scared to alienate their loyal base of older customers. And as its customers gave way to natural causes, Oldsmobile died its own automotive death.

He called me a week later and told me it was a $40 coolant temp sensor, the old one malfunctioned and thought the motor was overheating and would turn the motor off to "save it". He sold it a year later for $2500. Big mistake. Dumb mechanics didn't want to work on it and gave up on it. Needless to say I never went to any of those mechanics again.

It was in a museum until 2017. Then a dealer bought it.

What an American tragedy.....curses on the bums in government, the financial sector, NGO Policy creation circles and GM "management" for destroying one of the few really constant features of American automotive life over the last CENTURY. The oldest brand name. Explain to me what "smart" foreign venture or far less likely, what hair brained new domestic "product was worth the loss of this American Icon....

I wish Americans should go back to a sedan than crossover and SUV is ugly. I want a wagon station to return and better save gas economy than SUV and truck.

Sorry ass GM. Horrible decision in shutting down the Oldsmobile. Nowadays we have crappy little cars that look the same. No soul.

Is that SERIOUSLY the best band they could get?! I love Olds but that band was even more dead than the brand was at the end of the line.
Such a sad ending that Gm decided to invest in Saturn, Saab🤮, and Hummer in lieu of Olds. Horrible product planners
