In this thrift flip, with the power of my trusty sewing machine and mediocre sewing skills, I transform affordable thrift store clothes into cute Reformation and Urban Outfitters inspired items. This thrift flip episode includes some of my best DIY’s yet: transforming a vintage 70’s bell sleeve dress into an updated Reformation inspired picnic ready dress, turning a plain lumpy sweater into an Urban Outfitters / french girl inspired pearl button cardigan, and altering a loose and ill fitting dress to an Ariana Grande inspired silhouette.

You always always always press, sew, press, when you're sewing from scratch, and I think it would make it so much easier for you when you alter! i honestly love this kind of video so much because one of the things i like most about ashley is that she literally learned everything by herself and apparently often just from trial and error which makes seeing the end result (outfits, styling, modeling, but also room makeovers etc) so much more inspirational.
like she does so many cool things like these thrift flips and ends up looking so so gorgeous not because she went to a fancy design school but because she worked hard and taught herself.

Hey Ashley, just a tip for sewing. You should be taking the pins out as you get closer to the needle on the machine. The needle can hit the pins and the pins can break. This can be dangerous, because the sharp ends of the broken pins can shoot up and hit you. I've never had one hit my face thankfully, but I've had them hit my hands and arms and it can be very painful.
You can keep the pins when you're sewing if they are sideways like they were. Or at least I haven't have any problem with it except couple of the pins are little bended but most of the times the needle doesn't even touch the pins. But maybe it depends on your machine and the sewing speed and how much there are pins.
@@aadamajuri6014 Yes it depends, but as a general rule, I just like to be safe and take them out as I go, because I've had them break in either position.
@@AshleyLongTheBrave Yes I think so too and I like to take them out also most of the times so I don't have to go over and take them out afterwards especially when doing a long seam or sometimes I just don't use them at all and sew without them.
Maybe she sewed with the pins because there were so many of them and you would have to stop so many times and they keep the fabric in place so maybe that's her way to get the seam straighter or better.
@Maroxa’s Choices Yes it could but most of the times it goes between the pins or slides along the side of the pin or if you are sewing slowly it stops when it touches the pin and you can take the pin out and continue.
@Maroxa’s Choices Not unless you have a pretty cheap needle. Pins are like a dime a dozen, but needles need to be really well made so that they can go through lots of different fabrics without breaking.
