They did that to change from the book she had two sons they asked her two pick which. Once she does it was the older brother not the prince. He looked at the boy and said look your mother want you dead. So they killed the young one instead which was the prince. A son for a son

Erryk (Black) winning the fight against Arryk (Green) and protecting Rhaenyra yet killing himself out of the pure grief of having to kill his own brother is so damn sad.

I feel like Aegon destroying the "Valyrian city" is symbolic for so many things. Could represent Viserys' legacy crumbling or even the start of the downfall of the Targaryens, the last nobility of Valyria.
To be fair the only thing going for the Targaryen’s was their dragons granted they are pretty big thing but without them, I mean the Lannisters are rich beyond comprehension, Starks are the oldest major house they extremely well respected and have ties everywhere, Baratheons had extremely good warriors and commanders, the Targaryens without dragons most of them are just petty people with massive egos. So when they lost them yk what I mean.
This is a great observation, I wasn't thinking much of this scene than to show Aegon's rage but now that you mentioned it, I think there was some symbolism in there
@@anoushkas8726 my least favoured characters on GoT were Euron Greyjoy and Robin Arryn, and Criston Cole is by far more annoying. Mostly the character, but also I find the actor irritating. He looks brain dead.
Here you see the cycle of abuse and trauma that was started with Otto and alicent and that passed down to her and her children. Otto refusing to comfort or even pay attention to alicent's guilt to avoid any uneasiness and alicent not being able to comfort her own son because she just doesn't know how to be a mother,as a result of motherhood being forced on her and having done the same to helaena her daughter.. the poison drips through
I’m so glad he has more to do this season. People were very much like “I think the actor playing Aegon is not good” because we spent so little time with adult Aegon. Tom is just knocking it out of the park - because even when he was whiney Aegon in the back of the carriage with his mother going to get crowned, you could see the pain and hurt and his feeling of unworthiness. Now you see his rage and grief as a father mourning. He’s so good.
100%. His delivery of “we know our enemy!” gives me freaking chills. Idk if you’ve read A Court of Thorns and Roses, but I think he would make an amazing Eris.
@@LunarHexagon also he was comedy gold in the first episode when hearing the petitions. "lets just give back his sheep, he came all that way. They wouldn't know" while Otto getting more and more frustrated. I'm sure it was more about Aegon wanting to be seen as caring than actually caring. But still that scene humanized him a bit and was a great contrast to what happened this episode
No, you didn't forget that Alicent and Viserys had a fourth child. One of the weirder parts of Season 1 was that Daeron was never mentioned even once, though we did get a producer statement that he hadn't been cut out.
Ikr, if rhaenyra hadnt freed myssaria in order for her to then spot Arryk as she was leaving, he probably would've gotten the job done. It's so funny cause I thought it was a ridiculous plan that never couldve worked in a million years.
To be honest, it’s a bit of sloppy writing. Everyone there knows he has a twin brother. So him walking up to the door, when the guards thought he was already inside, should have raised red flags. Even the guard he relieves outside her chambers gives him a slightly funny look. Rhaenyra should have had him shave or given him a face tattoo to prevent the possibility of his twin infiltrating.
@@matias250 it's never implied that Cercei was hoping that a boar would kill Robert. But a hunt is a hunt, sometimes accidents happen, and a king full of strong wine can fall out of his horse and break his neck. I mean it was still dumb for a plan that her and her children's lifes were riding on, but not as dumb as hoping that Robert will meet a boar and his guard will allow Robert to be gutted by it.

I also like how Cole was criticizing Arryk's cloak being dirty as a result of him performing his duty, whilst his was clean as a result of not doing so
This is why it's easy to separate someone like Joffrey from someone like Aegon. Joffrey was a literal psychopath, while Aegon is just a product of being affluent his entire life. It makes him such an interesting character, because he does have feelings and he does love his family and children, as we see in the last scene where Alicent catches him bawling his eyes out.
If only he wasn't portrayed as a rapist in the series and a cruel vile onlooker on the pit fightings of his own bastards/children in the books. If he were to happen to kill a couple of ppl okay, i can still forgive that, but I simply can't overlook these other atrocities. After that point i was done with him, else i would have totally felt for him😢
I imagine he was so confused. Not even wanting to be king, feeling unwanted by his father, and then being told that his father finally chose him on his deathbed, all to be punished by his sister (so he thinks) and the punishment being the death of his only son who he was trying to be a better father to than his dad was to him.
It’s more so the similarity between her and Otto as parents, more than the difference between her and Rhaenyra. I think that was the message the show writers were trying to tell us, but you could be right. It’s all opinions anyway

@@joshuarojas5543 she does like her son. I think that much is clear, because if she didn’t, then she would’ve plotted to get him unseated and Rhaenyra to sit the throne. She has issues expressing her care towards them, as Otto did her. However, the difference between her and Otto is that she thinks everything will end up peaceful and doesn’t know the demands of war. Otto knew that, which is why he plotted to let Aegon ascend either way.
Erryk killing himself because he would not be able to live with the guilt of killing his own brother broke my heart, the saddest moment of this episode 💔
It was an interesting change from the book. I mean hard to say he could survive his wounds. But I like the change, showing the impact even at the start of the war.
I already hate him more. Ramsey was a psycho and he knows is a psycho. Cole is a smoll bitter resentfull prick and still think about himself as a just and pure knight
I'm a mother of a son and when Alicent walked away from Aegon crying I got so mad I was shouting at the screen hold your son no matter what shit is going on around you if you see your son sobbing and grieving the death of their own son you hold your child

Both Aegon and Helaena needed their mother’s comfort and she turned to her damn walking d*ldo instead for her OWN comfort like…her and Crispy Dick Cole deserve each other. They disgust me!
@kathykay975 No. He was in pain. It was the perfect time to comfort him. *That* would indeed have cooled down his anger. Or at least tempered his rash behavior. She might have been able to gently reason with him not to fire Otto. Instead, she abandoned him. And he knew that she did because he knows she walked into that room, and then left him alone. Again! That only reinforces his belief that no one loves him, making him even more bitter, angry, and vengeful.
The creator of the show confirmed that they both got the same injuries so that we couldn’t tell them apart for a moment and but Erryk wins and then falls on his sword
I think Arryk won because in the books, he does. And the "forgive me Your Grace", is because he didn't choose Rhaneyra and followed his brother. But in the end, he DOES 😢

@@anhkriva5274 Alicent also had a mother. At the beginning of season one Daemon makes a jab at Otto saying he'd lost his wife recently when everyone was pressuring Viserys to remarry. So Alicent had a mother almost as long ad Rhaenyra did.
For real. Everyone knows someone like that; can't do his actual job but keeps getting promoted because he sucks up to the bosses and helps them with their petty stuff.
Daeron is Alicent's third son. He was sent to the high towers when he was young. He has a dragon named Tessarion and is an important character for the war. they were supposed to introduce this character in the first season but they didn't do it so they are adding it now
Interesting that the person Aemond seeks comfort from is an older woman, older than his mom in fact. In addition to the sex, she provides him the kind of nurturing maternal love that he received little of when growing up. That scene was the most vulnerable I've ever seen Aemond. He's able to let his guard down with this woman. I'm sure she's the only one he's told that he has some regrets about killing Lucerys. It's really good that he has someone like that.
I noticed that too... His own mother wasn't nurturing. You can see the sadness in his eyes, not just for Luc but for himself as well... He knew full well why he sought comfort from her instead of his family
Alicent did poorly raising her children which is why they all have personal issues while Rhaenyra’s “bastards” seem like decent boys. Alicent is a hypocrite fraud through and through.
@@Ashbrash1998Viserys had cuts all over his back. The very first scene of Viserys we see him being treated on a wound on the back. The Throne rejected Viserys. He was a good man but bad king. Aegon is a troubled young man which had no proper education to be king but he has already showed kindness to the common people.
Helaena is grieving & Alicent wants to bring up her having sex with the man who should’ve been on guard, to make sure she didn’t snitch; and she couldn’t even comfort her grieving son, instead she goes and screws crispy Cole. What a great mother.
I love the contrast to Ep1, when Jace arrived back in Dragonstone and Rhaenyra just silently comforts her devastated son, who still tried so hard to do his duty.
And Aemond spends his time in a pleasure house not even partaking but paying for motherly affection and physical touch. Just another instance showing Alicent's emotional and physical neglect for her children.
The writers of this episode deserve an award. The dialogues are just deep and immersive as if you're actually in the same room where the characters are.
The dog scene was a tiny masterpiece. The dog STILL loved his owner even though he was a piece of shit who kicked him. The dog is the purest character in this show. 🐕❤
@@Zombina638 Then rewatch the epsiode. The dude that was hanged in Episode 2 was being strangled and threatened by the big guy that got caught with the head of the boy down in the dungeons and when the hanged dude was released he kicked the dog in anger.

The actor playing Aegon is just so likeable it's making me feel sympathy for him. I can understand his motivations even though his actions are the wrong ones. He really gives all the emotions so vividly.
Aegon called him out for not standing a post when his son was murdered... Wait til he finds out the real reason why (hopefully)... Cole had some nerve then blaming someone else for his royal eff up. He brings shame upon himself and doesn't deserve his white cloak. I can't stand him continually talking crap about Rhaenyra while doing what he's doing... He's right up there with Joffrey and Ramsey, as far as despicable characters go! Season 1 Cole: He's not a bad guy, I feel for him Season 2 Cole: I can't stand this mfer!

The thing is without Daemon, Rhaenyra is crippled. Daemon is a man who can command authority and make moves she never would. He is also the most dangerous rider, even more so than Aemond because of his experience and bond witu Caraxes. If Daemon would choose to either abandon her or worse, help the other side, it would be over.

Gosh I have had it with Otto. Yes, he’s correct that Aegon’s actions were idiotic, but was he not the one to put him on the throne. Aegon didn’t want this and he’s paid for it with his son, and then here comes Otto running salt into the wound. Aegon and Criston are pinging their one brain cell off each other, but this is literally all bc of Otto.
Because he didn't think that Aegon would be so "stupid" (according to his own POV) that he let himself think that Viserys was even better. Also putting Aegon on the throne was definitely a choice for him to assert his family on the throne (and I don't mean the Targaryen but the "Hightower side" of the family in a way)
Otto literally did the same with nobles in episode 9 - Lord Caswell was hanging in the castle for an attempt to leave KL. A death of a noble is far worse for the reputation
This episode was probably my favorite in the whole franchise. I was absorbed from start to finish. I made food to eat while I watched the episode and I was so immersed that I didn’t take a single bite. THANK YOU for the fast upload. Another thing, it’s funny to see how they’re reacting to the babies death but not ONE of them stopped & thought to themselves “wow is this what rhaenyra went through?????? Is this the same pain she felt??? Now i finally understand what pain we’ve inflicted.”
Exactly!!!!!! Like they’re so shocked she could do something so cruel… like did they forget what they did to her! And Aegon and Otto definitely suggested murdering her and her family in the episode 1 so it’s hilarious they think they’re somehow the victims and that they deserve revenge

Luke was 14 and he had promised his mother he wouldn’t fight because he was only there as a messenger and then he got chased down by a massive ass war dragon and eaten so he was defenseless because he had no way to fight Vhagar and he had sworn not to fight so he couldn’t fight Aemond. Daemon did give an order to Blood and Cheese. We saw saw him tell them to take out Aemond, but we also saw Cheese ask him what they should do if they can't find Aemond, and then the scene cut away without showing Daemon's answer. However, it's pretty obvious he did give them an answer. When Cheese had the knife against Helaena's throat, Blood told him their orders were "a son for a son". We didn't see Daemon tell them "a son for a son", so it stands to reason that Daemon gave that instruction in response to what they should do if they could not find Aemond
I really liked Otto in this episode, probably for the first time ever. And I'm glad that we were shown his wise side. He was the right Hand of two kings who managed to maintain peace and rule wisely. And this was largely thanks to Otto. But in the end, his time passed, and he took on his soul a sin for which the royal family will pay on both sides. And of course, thank that they FINALLY mentioned Daeron, who should have appeared in season 1, so as not to shock the audience now, but we have what we have... P.s. Aegon played by Tom Glynn-Carney turned out great. There is simply no more controversial character in the series. He literally drives you crazy, goes from hate to love and in circles.

Daemon for his many faults does love Rhaenyra. He just isn't a team player. You want him as an alley but you should expect him to follow his own path. He's a double edge sword that will do just as much damage to his side as his opponent's if one is not careful.
They're doing a good job of depicting both sides as evil and showing that the only thing that comes of a conflict like this is civil war and suffering. Big fan of the show thus far.

yeah aegon is just learning to be a king and its not like hes jofferey. hes flawed and young and trying his best. keep in mind he never wanted the throne in the first place.
Alicent definitely should have consoled Aegon when he was bawling his eyes out about the loss of his son. That was heartbreaking to see in so many ways. She never shows him any real motherly affection. Put all the politics and all the other BS aside and hug your son! Compare that scene with the one between Rhaenyra and Jacaerys last episode, and that pretty much sums up the types of mothers they are in a nutshell. Viserys and Alicent were negligent in showing much paternal love for Aegon. That's one of the key reasons why he turned out the way he did. They just let him run wild doing anything he wanted without providing him a loving foundation. He might have made a decent ruler if they had-or better yet a decent person.
One of my favorite moments was when Otto realized that Viserys was right. "He was right about you." Also, the fight between Erryk and Arryk was one of the hardest fights I've ever had to watch because of the fact that these brothers have been forced by circumstances to kill each other even though they still love each other.
It was manipulation card, viserys was never right, Aegon is like this because of viserys neglect and bad parenting, Aegon was never prepared to upjold such responsibility.
That's because they reduced the mountain into a weird zombie thing who didn't even talk. Their fight would have been more impactful if there was actual emotion there

I love the story of the Cargyll twins. They were so loyal to their word and the crown that they turned on the person they were the closest to in the whole world. It is so sad that Criston Cole to deal with his own guilt killed two men who really knew what honor was.
I know this sounds pathetic, but when you find some reactor pairs like yourselves that are lovely nice people and you get to watch your favourite show with them it's just a lovely way to wind down the evening on a work night. I grab a glass or red and go watch House of the Dragon with Nikki & Steven. It's so relaxing. You guys are such a beautiful couple. I'll be subscribed for years to come.
So far, Aegon has been one of the most interesting characters on the show. I don't think he will be like Joffrey or the mad king. He seems to have a bit more nuance to him. Not saying he is a good guy, just he is interesting to watch. The actor also has some really insightful things to say about him in the after the episode bits & interviews.
Otto was right at the start of the episode. It's a tragedy, but nothing will bring the child's life back. If the death can be used to stop a full out civil war, this theater can can now save countless lives, including all the other kids on both sides. It's painful, but it's the right choice. At the end he didn't "let her off". His daughter wanted to talk to him, share her actions, and probably wanting his comfort. He didn't "let her off easy", he pushed her away. She never had a loving parent, so she doesn't know how to be one to her kids. Aemond's looking for motherly love in a courtesan is another consequence of that family's broken relationship with each other.
Absolutely. It's brutal, but an heir can be replaced (something that real medieval dynasties were fully aware of). A reputation, once lost, can rarely be recovered.
There was also the scene after Aemond got his eye cut, where Aemond put his head on Alicent, just wanting some comfort from his mom. But all he heard was “Bring me Luke’s eye”, so he recalled to that at Storm’s End, to “take it as a gift to my mother”. And now the scene in the brothel. He just wanted his mother to love him, and I think it shows the similarity between Otto and Alicent.
After rewatching the 1st season I have a certain respect for Otto. He’s literally just like Tywin Lannister both characters are the most logical thinkers in their position. Some of their decisions seem messed up but if you take emotions out of it they make the most sound decisions in their situations. The thing is when you sit in such a high position and every decision you make affects thousands of people you have to think about what makes the most sense instead of making decisions based on how you feel. Otto using his grandsons death as a political pawn to sway the emotions of the masses is no different than how emmet tills death was used to bolster the civil rights movement.
The ending of this episode stuck with me. Alicent can’t even bring herself to comfort her own son in his time of need, and instead went to Criston Cole AGAIN. In contrast to Rhaenyra who immediately went to hug Jace before he even started crying, it really does show the reason why Alicent’s children are the way that they are (Aegon questioning whether or not she loved him, Aemond going off to another woman for maternal comfort, and Helaena sinking away whenever Alicent goes to touch her). Their momma would rather get it on with their kings guard (who failed to protect them) than show them comfort after a traumatic event.
The rollercoaster of emotion I went through when Otto finally got his position of the hand taken away, only for it be given to fucking Cristen Cole lol
Team green actors are knocking it out of the part this season so far. Every actor is fantastic, but the green actors/characters are so different from each other and so good individually and together that it makes me really engaged with them
Book lore (NO future spoilers - just the fight between the twins): Arryk arrived on the island disguised as a fisherman, changed to his Kingsguard armor and white cloak, and easily entered the castle. However, as Arryk was making his way to the royal apartments, he coincidentally encountered Erryk, who immediately understood why his twin was there. Accounts of the fight that followed greatly differ. Septon Eustace's account simply states that the Cargyll twins slew each other. According to singers, the brothers professed their love for each other as they drew their swords. Per Grand Maester Munkun's The Dance of the Dragons, A True Telling, Erryk and Arryk battled for most of an hour. The noise of the fight woke half of Rhaenyra's court, but they could only watch, as none could tell which twin was which. In the end, Arryk and Erryk mortally wounded each other, and died in each other's arms, weeping. And finally, per The Testimony of Mushroom, the fight lasted only moments, and the brothers did not declare their love, but rather called each other traitor. Erryk struck the first mortal blow, nearly cutting off Arryk's arm at the shoulder. As Arryk collapsed, he grabbed Erryk's cloak and pulled him close to stab him in the belly with a dagger. Arryk was dead before anyone found them, but Erryk took four days to die from his gut wound, screaming in pain and cursing his brother the whole time. I love how the show encapsulated a piece from nearly all "eyewitness" accounts of the fight.
Did they not use Great to describe offspring back then? Otto is the Father of Alicent, Aegon is Alicent's son, which makes Jaeharys Otto's Great Grandson right?
idk if this will be read (i know Nikki read every single comment for GoT, but you never know xd), but i gotta say that you two are so adorable together
As pointed out in this episode Helaena didn't have her own Kingsguard protecting her, Arryk protects the King and Criston Cole Protects the Queen Mother Alicent.
It would have been funny if once Otto was out of the room, he swiftly put an emergency hand of the king badge on and breathes a sigh of relief for having one on.
Otto and his family aren't even the main line of the Hightowers. The lord of House Hightower is Otto's brother, seen last season, and his children will carry on the bloodline. And Oldtown, where they rule, was seen in Game of Thrones, and it is still standing. Also, Prince Daeron gets his first mention in the show! This is Alicient's fourth child, which was hinted at in the previous opening (which showed the family tree), but has so far gone unmentioned. He's in Oldtown with the Hightowers. Looking forward to when we finally get to see him on the screen.
Daemon was leaving to raise a army for her at harrenhal. If you replay the conversation between Raenara and him after she confront him about his actions he says, I'm the one going to harrenhal to raise you a army, or something along those lines.
That scene between Rhaenyra and Daemon was spectacular writing and acting. It felt genuine. They are such amazing actors. Criston Cole seems to be the Littlefinger of this show so far.
I'm thinking Larys might have Cole killed eventually. First Cole took his woman (and her feet) and now Cole gets hand of the king instead of Larys. I think Larys will spill the secrets and get Cole killed. I hope so anyways
Otto: refuses to hear his daughters grief stricken admissions Alicent: refuses to console her grieving and tattered son Aegon: refuses to even stop to say a kind word to his sister-wife 😭 generational trauma and sins of the parent in real time, otto so caught up in using his daughter as a tool that there was never any real father-daughter bond there, no emotional connection, and that has trickled down into how alicent is as a parent, and how aegon is as a person
In the first episode, after Heleana pointed to her boy, she had complete terror in her face and said "NO" and then proceeded to get her daughter. Now, since they say Heleana is a dreamer and can see the future, in that moment, she realizes it is really happening and that she is not in a dream.
Y'all are misunderstanding daemon. He's right. Viserys did replace him out of spite after he made the "heir for a day" insult. He's loyal to Rhaenrya but he's old school. Fire and blood. When she came to him, before they married, she begged for his help and he warned her "people will fear us". She knew what she signed up for. He literally threatened to have anyone taken out by dragon fire if they dared to betray her. He's 100% loyal to her but he also wants his own glory. Because of his brutality, he never gets credit for getting the job done. He's seen as too brutal. He told Viserys he wanted to be his hand to protect him from his own weakness. He sees people for what they are and would rather not pretend to like them. He's brutal, with zero chill, but when he loves or cares for the person on the throne, he wants to be their protector and be given authority. When people say he's just the king consort so he has no power, that's not true. If it was true, then why did people take orders from Alicent when she was just the queen consort? Daemond is simply an old school Targaryen. He's all fire and blood.
That scene between Rhaenyra and Daemon was so fucking awesome. Matt Smith and Emma are both so good and have fantastic chemistry. I’ve had a crush on Matt Smith since he was The Doctor and this role just cemented it. So good.
They’re both sweethearts, that’s for sure. Did you hear Matt say that the director gave them total freedom how to play it, how to block it. Great actors are such a blessing

I feel like Aegon destroying the "Valyrian city" is symbolic for so many things. Could represent Viserys' legacy crumbling or even the start of the downfall of the Targaryens, the last nobility of Valyria.
To be fair the only thing going for the Targaryen’s was their dragons granted they are pretty big thing but without them, I mean the Lannisters are rich beyond comprehension, Starks are the oldest major house they extremely well respected and have ties everywhere, Baratheons had extremely good warriors and commanders, the Targaryens without dragons most of them are just petty people with massive egos. So when they lost them yk what I mean.

Here you see the cycle of abuse and trauma that was started with Otto and alicent and that passed down to her and her children. Otto refusing to comfort or even pay attention to alicent's guilt to avoid any uneasiness and alicent not being able to comfort her own son because she just doesn't know how to be a mother,as a result of motherhood being forced on her and having done the same to helaena her daughter.. the poison drips through

tom glynn-carney, the actor for Aegon, has been so impressive to me, really a great performance
I’m so glad he has more to do this season. People were very much like “I think the actor playing Aegon is not good” because we spent so little time with adult Aegon. Tom is just knocking it out of the park - because even when he was whiney Aegon in the back of the carriage with his mother going to get crowned, you could see the pain and hurt and his feeling of unworthiness. Now you see his rage and grief as a father mourning. He’s so good.

They wouldn't know" while Otto getting more and more frustrated. I'm sure it was more about Aegon wanting to be seen as caring than actually caring. But still that scene humanized him a bit and was a great contrast to what happened this episode

No, you didn't forget that Alicent and Viserys had a fourth child. One of the weirder parts of Season 1 was that Daeron was never mentioned even once, though we did get a producer statement that he hadn't been cut out.

Ikr, if rhaenyra hadnt freed myssaria in order for her to then spot Arryk as she was leaving, he probably would've gotten the job done. It's so funny cause I thought it was a ridiculous plan that never couldve worked in a million years.
To be honest, it’s a bit of sloppy writing. Everyone there knows he has a twin brother. So him walking up to the door, when the guards thought he was already inside, should have raised red flags. Even the guard he relieves outside her chambers gives him a slightly funny look. Rhaenyra should have had him shave or given him a face tattoo to prevent the possibility of his twin infiltrating.
Same energy as Cersei hoping a boar would kill a drunken Robert. At least her plan worked lmao

But a hunt is a hunt, sometimes accidents happen, and a king full of strong wine can fall out of his horse and break his neck. I mean it was still dumb for a plan that her and her children's lifes were riding on, but not as dumb as hoping that Robert will meet a boar and his guard will allow Robert to be gutted by it.

This is why it's easy to separate someone like Joffrey from someone like Aegon. Joffrey was a literal psychopath, while Aegon is just a product of being affluent his entire life. It makes him such an interesting character, because he does have feelings and he does love his family and children, as we see in the last scene where Alicent catches him bawling his eyes out.

If only he wasn't portrayed as a rapist in the series and a cruel vile onlooker on the pit fightings of his own bastards/children in the books. I imagine he was so confused. Not even wanting to be king, feeling unwanted by his father, and then being told that his father finally chose him on his deathbed, all to be punished by his sister (so he thinks) and the punishment being the death of his only son who he was trying to be a better father to than his dad was to him.
The last scene with Aegon crying and Alicent not going to him was so telling. Showing the difference between her and Rhaenyra once more.
It’s more so the similarity between her and Otto as parents, more than the difference between her and Rhaenyra. I think that was the message the show writers were trying to tell us, but you could be right. It’s all opinions anyway

She has issues expressing her care towards them, as Otto did her. However, the difference between her and Otto is that she thinks everything will end up peaceful and doesn’t know the demands of war. Otto knew that, which is why he plotted to let Aegon ascend either way.

It was an interesting change from the book. I mean hard to say he could survive his wounds. But I like the change, showing the impact even at the start of the war.

Both Aegon and Helaena needed their mother’s comfort and she turned to her damn walking d*ldo instead for her OWN comfort like…her and Crispy Dick Cole deserve each other. They disgust me!
@kathykay975 No. He was in pain. It was the perfect time to comfort him. *That* would indeed have cooled down his anger. Or at least tempered his rash behavior. She might have been able to gently reason with him not to fire Otto. Instead, she abandoned him. And he knew that she did because he knows she walked into that room, and then left him alone. Again! That only reinforces his belief that no one loves him, making him even more bitter, angry, and vengeful.
The creator of the show confirmed that they both got the same injuries so that we couldn’t tell them apart for a moment and but Erryk wins and then falls on his sword
I think Arryk won because in the books, he does.
And the "forgive me Your Grace", is because he didn't choose Rhaneyra and followed his brother.

Daeron is Alicent's third son. He was sent to the high towers when he was young. He has a dragon named Tessarion and is an important character for the war. they were supposed to introduce this character in the first season but they didn't do it so they are adding it now
I have a feeling from what ppl say is he's gonna be seen in season 3 ALOT.
Interesting that the person Aemond seeks comfort from is an older woman, older than his mom in fact. In addition to the sex, she provides him the kind of nurturing maternal love that he received little of when growing up. That scene was the most vulnerable I've ever seen Aemond. He's able to let his guard down with this woman. I'm sure she's the only one he's told that he has some regrets about killing Lucerys. It's really good that he has someone like that.
I noticed that too... His own mother wasn't nurturing. You can see the sadness in his eyes, not just for Luc but for himself as well... He knew full well why he sought comfort from her instead of his family
Alicent did poorly raising her children which is why they all have personal issues while Rhaenyra’s “bastards” seem like decent boys.
Alicent is a hypocrite fraud through and through.
Honestly one of my favorite scenes so far, it's exactly what I wanted from Aemond as a character.
She's also the woman in s1 who was implied to have sa'd him when he was a child. These people CANNOT catch a break.

To be fair Aegon sat on it woth clothes on covering his body. Viserys had the illness before but only got nicked on his hand, the only exposed part.

I love the contrast to Ep1, when Jace arrived back in Dragonstone and Rhaenyra just silently comforts her devastated son, who still tried so hard to do his duty.
Alicent worries more about getting caught than she worries about her children or grieves for her grandson. She's horrible
And Aemond spends his time in a pleasure house not even partaking but paying for motherly affection and physical touch. Just another instance showing Alicent's emotional and physical neglect for her children.

The thing is without Daemon, Rhaenyra is crippled. Daemon is a man who can command authority and make moves she never would. He is also the most dangerous rider, even more so than Aemond because of his experience and bond witu Caraxes. If Daemon would choose to either abandon her or worse, help the other side, it would be over.

Gosh I have had it with Otto. Yes, he’s correct that Aegon’s actions were idiotic, but was he not the one to put him on the throne. Aegon didn’t want this and he’s paid for it with his son, and then here comes Otto running salt into the wound. Aegon and Criston are pinging their one brain cell off each other, but this is literally all bc of Otto.
Because he didn't think that Aegon would be so "stupid" (according to his own POV) that he let himself think that Viserys was even better. Also putting Aegon on the throne was definitely a choice for him to assert his family on the throne (and I don't mean the Targaryen but the "Hightower side" of the family in a way)

We saw saw him tell them to take out Aemond, but we also saw Cheese ask him what they should do if they can't find Aemond, and then the scene cut away without showing Daemon's answer. However, it's pretty obvious he did give them an answer. When Cheese had the knife against Helaena's throat, Blood told him their orders were "a son for a son". We didn't see Daemon tell them "a son for a son", so it stands to reason that Daemon gave that instruction in response to what they should do if they could not find Aemond
Daemon is my least favorite character in the story. His refusal to take accountability in this episode seals it.
I really liked Otto in this episode, probably for the first time ever. And I'm glad that we were shown his wise side. He was the right Hand of two kings who managed to maintain peace and rule wisely. And this was largely thanks to Otto. But in the end, his time passed, and he took on his soul a sin for which the royal family will pay on both sides.
And of course, thank that they FINALLY mentioned Daeron, who should have appeared in season 1, so as not to shock the audience now, but we have what we have...
P.s. Aegon played by Tom Glynn-Carney turned out great. There is simply no more controversial character in the series. He literally drives you crazy, goes from hate to love and in circles.

Daemon for his many faults does love Rhaenyra. He just isn't a team player. You want him as an alley but you should expect him to follow his own path. He's a double edge sword that will do just as much damage to his side as his opponent's if one is not careful.

They're doing a good job of depicting both sides as evil and showing that the only thing that comes of a conflict like this is civil war and suffering. Big fan of the show thus far.

yeah aegon is just learning to be a king and its not like hes jofferey. hes flawed and young and trying his best. keep in mind he never wanted the throne in the first place.
Alicent definitely should have consoled Aegon when he was bawling his eyes out about the loss of his son. That was heartbreaking to see in so many ways. She never shows him any real motherly affection. Put all the politics and all the other BS aside and hug your son! Compare that scene with the one between Rhaenyra and Jacaerys last episode, and that pretty much sums up the types of mothers they are in a nutshell. Viserys and Alicent were negligent in showing much paternal love for Aegon. That's one of the key reasons why he turned out the way he did. They just let him run wild doing anything he wanted without providing him a loving foundation. He might have made a decent ruler if they had-or better yet a decent person.

Acting was 10/10. The twins dueling was so well done! 8.5/10 for me.
One of my favorite moments was when Otto realized that Viserys was right. "He was right about you."
Also, the fight between Erryk and Arryk was one of the hardest fights I've ever had to watch because of the fact that these brothers have been forced by circumstances to kill each other even though they still love each other.
I hate that moment because Viserys never gave a shit about his son after he turned 2 and hasn't given him one thought.
It was manipulation card, viserys was never right, Aegon is like this because of viserys neglect and bad parenting, Aegon was never prepared to upjold such responsibility.

We barely knew the Cargyll twins, but their fight was more impactful and emotional than Clegane Bowl.
That's because they reduced the mountain into a weird zombie thing who didn't even talk. Their fight would have been more impactful if there was actual emotion there

I love the story of the Cargyll twins. They were so loyal to their word and the crown that they turned on the person they were the closest to in the whole world. It is so sad that Criston Cole to deal with his own guilt killed two men who really knew what honor was.

I grab a glass or red and go watch House of the Dragon with Nikki & Steven. It's so relaxing. You guys are such a beautiful couple. I'll be subscribed for years to come.
So far, Aegon has been one of the most interesting characters on the show. I don't think he will be like Joffrey or the mad king. He seems to have a bit more nuance to him. Not saying he is a good guy, just he is interesting to watch. The actor also has some really insightful things to say about him in the after the episode bits & interviews.
Twin fight was heart breaking for sure - and executed amazingly - this show is top tier!
Otto was right at the start of the episode. It's a tragedy, but nothing will bring the child's life back. If the death can be used to stop a full out civil war, this theater can can now save countless lives, including all the other kids on both sides.
It's painful, but it's the right choice.
At the end he didn't "let her off". His daughter wanted to talk to him, share her actions, and probably wanting his comfort. He didn't "let her off easy", he pushed her away. She never had a loving parent, so she doesn't know how to be one to her kids. Aemond's looking for motherly love in a courtesan is another consequence of that family's broken relationship with each other.
Absolutely. It's brutal, but an heir can be replaced (something that real medieval dynasties were fully aware of). A reputation, once lost, can rarely be recovered.
There was also the scene after Aemond got his eye cut, where Aemond put his head on Alicent, just wanting some comfort from his mom. But all he heard was “Bring me Luke’s eye”, so he recalled to that at Storm’s End, to “take it as a gift to my mother”. And now the scene in the brothel. He just wanted his mother to love him, and I think it shows the similarity between Otto and Alicent.
After rewatching the 1st season I have a certain respect for Otto. He’s literally just like Tywin Lannister both characters are the most logical thinkers in their position. Some of their decisions seem messed up but if you take emotions out of it they make the most sound decisions in their situations. The thing is when you sit in such a high position and every decision you make affects thousands of people you have to think about what makes the most sense instead of making decisions based on how you feel. Otto using his grandsons death as a political pawn to sway the emotions of the masses is no different than how emmet tills death was used to bolster the civil rights movement.
The ending of this episode stuck with me. Alicent can’t even bring herself to comfort her own son in his time of need, and instead went to Criston Cole AGAIN. In contrast to Rhaenyra who immediately went to hug Jace before he even started crying, it really does show the reason why Alicent’s children are the way that they are (Aegon questioning whether or not she loved him, Aemond going off to another woman for maternal comfort, and Helaena sinking away whenever Alicent goes to touch her). Their momma would rather get it on with their kings guard (who failed to protect them) than show them comfort after a traumatic event.
I don't know why everyone expects Blood to have loyalty to Daemon. It was a job and Daemon wasnt going to do anything for him lol
This episode was so good!! The dialogue/lines these characters gave back and forth to each other was captivating. I was completely invested

Team green actors are knocking it out of the part this season so far. Every actor is fantastic, but the green actors/characters are so different from each other and so good individually and together that it makes me really engaged with them
Book lore (NO future spoilers - just the fight between the twins):
Arryk arrived on the island disguised as a fisherman, changed to his Kingsguard armor and white cloak, and easily entered the castle. However, as Arryk was making his way to the royal apartments, he coincidentally encountered Erryk, who immediately understood why his twin was there.
Accounts of the fight that followed greatly differ.
Septon Eustace's account simply states that the Cargyll twins slew each other.
According to singers, the brothers professed their love for each other as they drew their swords.
Per Grand Maester Munkun's The Dance of the Dragons, A True Telling, Erryk and Arryk battled for most of an hour. The noise of the fight woke half of Rhaenyra's court, but they could only watch, as none could tell which twin was which. In the end, Arryk and Erryk mortally wounded each other, and died in each other's arms, weeping.
And finally, per The Testimony of Mushroom, the fight lasted only moments, and the brothers did not declare their love, but rather called each other traitor. Erryk struck the first mortal blow, nearly cutting off Arryk's arm at the shoulder. As Arryk collapsed, he grabbed Erryk's cloak and pulled him close to stab him in the belly with a dagger. Arryk was dead before anyone found them, but Erryk took four days to die from his gut wound, screaming in pain and cursing his brother the whole time.
I love how the show encapsulated a piece from nearly all "eyewitness" accounts of the fight.

As pointed out in this episode Helaena didn't have her own Kingsguard protecting her, Arryk protects the King and Criston Cole Protects the Queen Mother Alicent.
And it’s Cole’s fault for that. He’s the leader of the king’s guards.
When Aegon told Otto to give the badge to Criston.. for a moment I thought Otto was going to die in that room.
It would have been funny if once Otto was out of the room, he swiftly put an emergency hand of the king badge on and breathes a sigh of relief for having one on.
The dialogue this episode was PHENOMENAL. Peak GoT material right here.
2:00 some say she saw his death but was in denial and as she was in denial, she was sewing a shroud for her own son.
Otto and his family aren't even the main line of the Hightowers. The lord of House Hightower is Otto's brother, seen last season, and his children will carry on the bloodline. And Oldtown, where they rule, was seen in Game of Thrones, and it is still standing.
Also, Prince Daeron gets his first mention in the show! This is Alicient's fourth child, which was hinted at in the previous opening (which showed the family tree), but has so far gone unmentioned. He's in Oldtown with the Hightowers. Looking forward to when we finally get to see him on the screen.
Daemon was leaving to raise a army for her at harrenhal. If you replay the conversation between Raenara and him after she confront him about his actions he says, I'm the one going to harrenhal to raise you a army, or something along those lines.
That scene between Rhaenyra and Daemon was spectacular writing and acting. It felt genuine. They are such amazing actors. Criston Cole seems to be the Littlefinger of this show so far.

😭 generational trauma and sins of the parent in real time, otto so caught up in using his daughter as a tool that there was never any real father-daughter bond there, no emotional connection, and that has trickled down into how alicent is as a parent, and how aegon is as a person

In the first episode, after Heleana pointed to her boy, she had complete terror in her face and said "NO" and then proceeded to get her daughter. Now, since they say Heleana is a dreamer and can see the future, in that moment, she realizes it is really happening and that she is not in a dream.
Stop comparing Aegon to Joffrey
Y'all are misunderstanding daemon. He's right. Viserys did replace him out of spite after he made the "heir for a day" insult. He's loyal to Rhaenrya but he's old school. Fire and blood. When she came to him, before they married, she begged for his help and he warned her "people will fear us". She knew what she signed up for. He literally threatened to have anyone taken out by dragon fire if they dared to betray her. He's 100% loyal to her but he also wants his own glory. Because of his brutality, he never gets credit for getting the job done. He's seen as too brutal. He told Viserys he wanted to be his hand to protect him from his own weakness. He sees people for what they are and would rather not pretend to like them. He's brutal, with zero chill, but when he loves or cares for the person on the throne, he wants to be their protector and be given authority. When people say he's just the king consort so he has no power, that's not true. If it was true, then why did people take orders from Alicent when she was just the queen consort? Daemond is simply an old school Targaryen. He's all fire and blood.

That scene between Rhaenyra and Daemon was so fucking awesome. Matt Smith and Emma are both so good and have fantastic chemistry. I’ve had a crush on Matt Smith since he was The Doctor and this role just cemented it. So good.
