Assalamualikum. Your lecture was a good reminder to let the kids settle in US as US citizens. However I would like to add it is better to leave if something is disputed about like birthday or halloween. As if after death it turns out to be haram there is no going back and changing your deed. So if possible its better to be safe than sorry. Also, when I explained to my non muslim friends I avoid celebrating birthday they ended up sharing how its difficult for them to keep up the ever growing demand of their kids every year on their birthdays. Not to mention how kids end up fighting amongst themselves and with their parents for how injust ones gift was with respect to other. May allah protect us from any wrong doing. And accept our action as refrain as ibadah.

Walikum assalaam wrwb Sheikh, what I get from this lecture is we should be more focused on practicing/protecting the deen. We know that majority of the festivals are consumer holidays. Their main purpose is to stimulate the economy. Personally, I encourage my children to fast during their birthdays and show gratitude to Allah swt and parents. When it comes to Thanksgiving I want my children to stand with the Native Americans and Justice and Truth. I do not want my children to follow something blindly just because the majority is doing it. We can always reason. Also, take the middle path which is recommended.

Brother with due respect I need to learn from your family practices where and how did you get the practice to urge your kids to fast on their respective birthday when as a Muslim we don’t observe or fast on the birthday of our most beloved person on earth Messenger (puh) of Allah ( ST).

You believe the TH-cam historians too much. Why can't you stand with everyone. You're raising your children to be white haters. Do some real research. Thanksgiving is about unity. Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. It's a national holiday. Even Muslim countries celebrate national holidays.

On one extreme, some people living in non-Muslims lands think it is forbidden to have anything to do with even the most generic and secular festivals in those lands, while some people living in majority Muslim lands go out of their way to celebrate Christmas and Valentine's.

all i see in the comments are people making flimsy point off of his points. when your intention isnt to honour a pagan god or transgress, whats the harm in celebrating personal feats and celebrations?
one might ask why do this just to fit into society? yes. thats a valid point that you are making but you completely missed the sheikhs point. he isnt encouraging the celebrations. he is merely pointing out that celebrating it when youre a part of a larger society that does celebrate things like this isnt exactly haram. you can choose to do it or not. this is just for the people that want to do it and wanna know if theyre doing something wrong by celebrating something. if you are gonna draw parallels on paganism and something like celebrating a birthday, clearly youre reading too much into it. if you intend for it to be a fun time with you and your family and friends, whats the harm in that? then again. this is for the people that want to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. personally, ive never felt the need or desire to celebrate it nor do i find the idea appealing but all im gonna say is that people are reading too much into things that are done without any intention of wrongdoing and we all know that in islam, niyyath is everything.

Love the logic! That’s the whole point…logic!

    • @Jaafar_Alkhalifa
      @Jaafar_Alkhalifa 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

No that's never been the point.
The Great Companion of the prophet Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “If the religion were based upon one’s opinion, one might expect the bottom of the leather sock to be wiped instead of the top. I have seen the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wiping over the upper part of his leather socks.”
      Source: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 162
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani
We base our religion on the Quran and Sunnah with the understanding of the righteous predecessors. If we veer away from that and start to implement logic and philosophy on religion, our faith will fall apart. Because our logic is limited.
Logic and reasoning should be used on limited sciences that observe the physical limited world.

I am from Malaysia and in Malaysia, we combine religious festival together when it coincidently falls on the same month close to one another. Ofcourse as Muslims we don’t celebrate exactly as the people of that faith do... but we go to their parties to eat and we wish them for their celebration. So how?

Although some cultural celebrations aren’t religious they still aren’t good to celebrate. Thanksgiving is a celebration of the genocide of the Native American people. Most Native Americans do not celebrate thanksgiving because it is a day of mourning for them. As a Muslim, and as a descendant of the Native American people, I refuse to celebrate a holiday that stems from the oppression and murder of the Native people. The 4th of July in the United States I also refuse to celebrate. It is an American tradition not related to religion but it is also another twisted holiday. Yea it is the day the US was freed from the British empire but who exactly was free? The white slave owners were free but all of the African American slaves were not free. And some of those slaves were Muslims from Africa. They were still being tortured until a hundred years later when they “technically” were freed. And even till this day are still oppressed. So Independence Day is a joke to me. I’m not telling anyone they shouldn’t celebrate these days because I have no right to do that. I just gave the reasons why I don’t and why people need to look into things before they decide to “celebrate” them. Don’t just follow others blindly for the sake of “culture”.

I find it quite convenient that natives forget their own history of genocidal wars against other native tribes. Just look at what the Sioux did to the Kiowa and the Shoni tribes. Maybe the Sioux should apologize for all those massacres. Oh wait, most of the people they could apologize to are dead. People of English descent in the US are more native the New England than the Sioux are to the Black Hills. Also, it is very well documented that Native American tribes owned African slaves. People like you want all the benefits of living in the US but will never actually leave or go and live on the reservations because the Whiteman built an objectively better nation that is the most prosperous nation in history.

I agree with most of what brother Qadhi says in this lecture. The only thing that troubles me, is when he said we should disregard the pagan origins of certain celebrations that don’t have religious connections, and celebrate them in the way that the people do today. I think more context and explanation needs to be done. Or else people might get the impression that it’s ok to celebrate Halloween.

Btw they are some people who never did any good in their lives..after burning in hellfire for a period of time (only Allah knows till when)..they will burned to crisp...and then will be dipped in the river of life..and then they will enter Jannah...Am not a scholar just an average Muslim this is what I heard frm YQ unless my ears 👂 are full of wax 😆

I just became more confused on the matter , ibn thaimiah says that eids that are haram are the communal ones , other scholars say that even personal ones are haram , others say that personal eids are not haram unless they are imitation , you say they were back in the time an imitatio but they are no more like that so it's moubah and you sheikh say that even communal eids are moubah if that are not religious now ....
    What should I do ?

Because we want to do it without getting blamed and shamed for it. We want the shiekh to take the blame for us.
    How selfish are we?

Yasir Brother, great thought. I discussed the same with people who are Mufti/Aalim and passed out from Nadva/Deoband in India. They said that I am much influenced with Shaitaan as I am following the thoughts of a Ghair Aalim. They clearly don't allow us to think logically and forcefully follow what they said. I am really very much confused.

I admire the knowledge and effort you put into this lecture. you made some very good points. Still, I have a few questions. 1. You say, see things on how they are perceived today not yesterday. One can argue the same thing about Christmas which is mainly celebrated as a secular holiday these days. So should we start celebrating that? My point is if we allow things for a certain period of time they will become a norm. So why shouldn't we stand firm in our way no matter how "unreligious" it becomes over time? 2. Pagan origins: You made the case that it doesn't matter for us in case of week and month names then why should it matter in case of birthday. Well, one can say weeks/month names do not fall under the category of "celebrations". 3. You said "mehndi" has become a norm in the East so similarly birthday is fine in the west. Well, which scholar has said "mehndi" is permissible? People in the East do it out of ignorance and they should be told about it. 4. The mushabihat argument: I think it is alright in the case of dressing, cuisine, etc (I mean I understand where u r coming from). but is it not going out of one's way to buy a cake, do decorations and invite people over just to have a celebration that has paganistic origins?

  • @sufiahmed100

As Salaam Alaakum. Christmas and Easter are most of those are Pagan holidays, No exceptions or excuses.
