    I thought the convertible table was brilliant but this blows that out of the water. This would be perfect for those of us who are older and just cannot deal with the ladders or mini staircases for the sleeping loft area. Definitely going to keep this little gem in mind!! Thank you thank you thank you!

    If the TV is flat agains the wall the bed can be lowered past the TV and you can watch TV in bed as well. Nice!

      It'll work the same with a standing desk and gaming PC setup. Could lower the bed and sync up a controller or wireless keyboard n mouse, or lapdog, or whatever and game, watch youtube, netflix, etc. Should work about perfectly with a 32" or so 16:9 monitor, but I'd prefer to go 21:9 ultrawide, so I think the equivalent size in that aspect ratio is 39"
      Aside from that, this can/will also highly benefit a single level tiny home. Cheers, guys.

    BRILLIANT! I've been looking for such a solution to design interior of a Hi Cube 20' shipping container home. I too saw the elegant £10k option c/w counter weights and infra red control! This fits the bill perfectly. Well done, and thank you.

    I am a state of Maine license plumbing and heating contractor Also a building Contractor. I also have been Designing and building tiny homes since I was a Teenager before tiny homes were a thing. When I build I always build is if it was my own home and I always live in the home before I sell it which means I am able to do everything from start to finish from the concrete to the wiring to the plumbing heating construction. I'm not saying all this as bragging I am saying all this To give compliment to you guys because I have never come up with the clever ideas that you have. You are the most ingenious couple I have witnessed in the construction field ever And I look forward to new videos from you every time they come out because I know there will be some new clever idea in each one just when I thought that every new and clever idea must have been thought of. Please keep it up, my hat is off to you, thank you.

    Fantastic! Some ideas:
    There seems to be no need for 4 tracks, 2 would do just fine.
    Instead of an electronic lifting system, you could just have a counterweight and it would be an easy hand move to lift...

    This would be a great idea for a storage loft in a tiny house. I would have some kind of convertible sofa on the main floor and use this idea for storage/crafts etc. you could make it deep enough so you could sit at it when down to do artwork, sewing etc and then just lift the “mess” up and out of the way.

    I LOVE it!!! Great alternative solution to sleeping lofts where you have to climb a ladder and then crawl on hands and knees to get into bed! I hope you patent this.
    Why haven't more builders/designers addressed the issue of sleeping lofts with about 4.5 ft of headroom?

    I think it's an amazing idea and the fact you pulled it off with simple easily available hardware is even better. I wonder if you would want to finish it up with a coat of white paint or maybe some fancy wood over the rails.

    Love this design. Looking to do something similar in my tiny bedroom. One thing it seems they pointedly did not show is the sound when going up and down. Garage door openers tend to be quite loud.

  • @tomsdreamshopworx
    @tomsdreamshopworx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well done! Instead of a garage door opener you could also look at the electric cable hoists that are available. Another option would be to have it pivot off of the wall electrically too. Just some thoughts to keep tucked in the back of your head for next time. Keep up the great work! It's way way to cold for me up there!

  • @rfelectrons
    @rfelectrons 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a pretty slick idea. Especially the cutout for the flatscreen. This would make a nice dumbwaiter in your forever house if you scaled it up vertically. I know your stove is on ground level, but if you needed firewood upstairs, this would be a neat way to a transport. Anyhow, greetings from Texas (it's 70 here today, sorry) and keep up the good work. I have been planning my own THOW and this is exactly what I needed to find. Ingenuity and DIY determination and on a budget. Do you think I could use the same general technique on a small personal elevator? If it can lift a bed it could probably lift one person right?

  • @bteddybear
    @bteddybear 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Do you have a manual lowering or lifting back-up in case of power outage? Love the idea, having both options would make this a great idea in many projects.

    • @flipnotrab
      @flipnotrab 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not 100% sure here, but if you freeze frame 2:24 and look at end of green tube it “looks” like there are garage door “pin tool” holes for manual rotating. Would take forever considering you’ll only be able to move maybe 1/4”-1/2” at a time, but it’ll move.

    Really cool. I've seen a bed on a track just like that in a 'toy carrier' trailer so you can have the bed up and out of the way and park your quad or whatever. You did it 'home made'. Great idea.

    I've been advocating an elevating bed in tiny homes for a long time, but all the idiots thought loft beds, and the dangerous stairs or ladder, were the way to go. If it were me, I'd have a dining area under it, to save even more space. I don't want a tiny home tho, I want it in a camper conversion. Nice job.

      Abundently Clear You only put the bed up when you are done sleeping in it. You really should only be lifting the mattress when you are storing the bed for the day...no one should be in the bed!

    I stole your idea and modified it some. I had just spent some time re-cabling my friend's jayco tent trailer, and it gave me an idea. It works fine, and is very cheap. Some air craft cable, a boat winch, 4 tracks, and it's done. (well, not quite, but even though it was a chore to figure out by trial and error as you go) It only needs to move about 4 feet total, so not so bad. Hardest part was getting the pulling to work properly and evenly. It winds onto 4 separate spools on a shaft, and the handle slides into a hole on the front of the bed. (the crank goes up with the bed as you raise it) The pulley is a reduction gear, so easy to crank.

    Is there a way to raise the TV and then lower it back to it's "livingroom" position? Just curious, since it would be a bit difficult to watch comfortably when bed is lowered and your ontop of the mattress.

  • @wishbringer5108
    @wishbringer5108 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you don't have power you can always use the same system that pop up tent trailers use for the roof but in this case a bed. Garage door opener is clunky imho. I e always used a hydraulic winch. Much quieter. And you can have a manual option when powers out. Costs the same

    Hi White family, really like what you guys do. Very talented, dedicated hardworking people. Suggestion, try making a sleeping area slightly off the floor on a 1 ft (roughly) platform with the 'living room' floor above it (with some stairs) and a sliding door to enclose the sleeping nook when not used. The visual at 2:25 gave me the idea. So the bed is under the living area instead of on top. Would be interested in your feedback... Hope you continue to grow in your business. I would go for the low down bed idea (as an old lady ;-) ).

    Another great idea can be seen on TH-cam. Just search for the Tiny house village in Washington D.C. with about 5 houses. There is a house that hid the bed in a platform that is about 3 feet up from the ground floor. On the platform which is just 2 steps to get up on they did an office space and closet with other storage. Then the front of the platform there are tabs that you pull on and the bed slides out into the living room space. The layout is great! Check it out!

    The rear sleeping area of a toy hauler camper use a double set up like a double bunk bed.
    And they have sliding seats in the bottom on the floor for a dinette eating area or in your case a type of hide away bed that could be used as a couch during the day.
    if stacked properly you could sleep 6 people in that one spot and run them up when not using them.

    @anawhite Can we get an update on how the bed has held up after these few years? Were there any post install changes that you would have made or were made by the owner? This is a phenomenal idea. I am just curious about long term use and how it held up. From the design of the rest of the house I gather that it's more of a vacation or travel home not really a full time live in type of scenario.

    That is so incredibly brilliant - congratulations!!
    (I didn’t get how it lifts with cables and a ram) Do your walls have cavities that the vertical rails could sit in, or wouldn’t it work that way. Since I saw your video 10 minutes ago, I want one in my sons room for his model railway track. Anyways, as I said, BRILLIANT!! WOW!

    Love the idea. I guess it will complicate the building process but i wonder if its possible to hide rails on to the walls? How would this affect the insulation of the walls? Any idea?

      You definitely could. The rails are really optional, we tossed around the idea of just having caster wheels hidden around the bed, so there is something for the bed to run up and down the wall on, but this tiny house is very rustic modern, so the rails are part of the design.

    Could you supply a link to the garage lift, I cant find one that looks like yours. I understand the track and wheels, it's the cable motor winder system with 4 cables. Thanks

    Great job putting this together. I've searched through the comments, a number of them asking for a hardware parts list, but I haven't found the actual parts list for this. Could you please post the hardware you used, specifically the tracks? Thx

      I agree, would love to see some specifics on hardware - specifically the hoist. The rest I can figure out, but can't find that garage storage lift. It's quite different than any hoists I've found.

    Just a question or two for your design, which is awesome as hell! Do you have some recommended material brands that you used, or considered (Keep in mind this is from the mouth of a beginning diyer) especially due to easiest manipulation of materials or simple/direct explanations? Also have you guys experimented with a counterbalance weight for easy manual raising and lowering of the bed, or do have any ideas that may work? Also do you see this design being just as functional and usable in say a Class C Motor-home? I'd love to hear back when/if you get a chance.

    How could you make something like this work in a class c motor home rv. we just got a shorter one, its going to need alot of work anyway. no way the two of us would fit in the cab over part. but I was wondering if there could be a way to "lower a bed from over the cab and fold out the sides..
