The shafts are designed to collapse in the event of a frontal collision preventing the upper steering shaft from penetrating the drivers chest and killing him.
Thanks for the video. It helped me take my shaft off to inspect and see where the slack is. It is in the steering box. But I haven't heard anyone on these videos including you, say what is the point in changing to the other designed shaft?
@@JohnSmith-ti2kp it removes slack also. If the rag joint gets worn it can have slack in that area also. Mine was in really good shape but I have had them to the point of almost torn apart. I figured while I had the inner fenders out was a good time to upgrade
Keep up the good work also I would sure like to know the part number on that steering shaft sir.. I need the same one on my K5 . TIA
Thanks I appreciate it. It’s been a long drawn out build. They were slow to ship but the shaft worked good.

Looks good. I think I might try that as well
Hopefully it works out. It’s a small ujoint but those guys run some big tires on those xjs.
I bought 3 rachets from Icon
Not too happy. When lostening bolt, all 3 sizes have turned to tighten as i been lostening blots.
That’s sucks. I’ve had good luck with mine.
I been wanting to do the steering shaft upgrade to my 84 k5.
I’m hoping it will make a difference lol. It’s been so long since I drove it I’ll never know.
