I remember it like it was yesterday. Arland Bruce shows up and the little man takes the team and puts the BC Lions on his shoulders and just injects an insane amount of enthusiasm into the BC Lions and the rest is literally Canadian Football League history.
Now I'm a big fan of The Philadelphia Eagles, and The NFL. BUT, big-ups to The British Columbia Lions. To go from 0-5 to being Grey Cup Champions, that is an amazing feat.
If I read online correctly, this is only the 4th time in the modern era where the winning team won in their home stadium. The last time was 1994. That was nice to have after the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. But it's also interesting, those are the last two times the Canucks went to the Finals. Interestingly, there were so many times the Lions almost won the Grey Cup in Vancouver: 1963: Lost Final in Vancouver 1983: Lost Final in Vancouver by 1 point (after leading by at least 10 points at the half) 1985 (Won), 1988 (Lost by 1 point): In between those two years, Vancouver hosted the Grey Cup in both 1986 and 1987. 2000 (Won): Year after Vancouver hosted the Finals. 2004 (Lost), 2006 (Won): Vancouver hosted in 2005
Still wish I could find that playoff game between bc and calgary where the fluties met , only seen that last drive on here , that long run by doug flutie in the snow , straight up the middle , austin starts mcmanus finshes , or mcmanus starts and austin finishes , didn't seem to matter that year. 1994 I think ?.
This team was the best, Geroy Simon, Paris Jackson, Angus Reid, Korey Banks, Dante Marsh, Aaron Hunt, Brent Johnson, Arland Bruce and many others, its a shame that all these guys are now gone. Mike Benevides ruined this team which was once known for its commitment to winning and its "winning culture." Hopefully they can turn things around this season, but it won't be the same as 2011 as all these amazing locker room guys are now gone :(
+dudwarezintl I have never seen a team so dominant like the Lions after they went 0-5. Yes you can make a pretty strong argument that the 2006 team was more talented, but to rebound from 0-5 like that shows a lot of character and resiliency which is something special.
