I am so excited!!! I am in my livingroom jumping around. I feel like I am on Antique's Roadshow. I bought my Louis from a vintage store a few years ago for next to nothing and am now realizing it is actually real! I went through all the steps you talked about in your video and my bag is real. You made my day : )
very helpful. this has helped me confirm what I've suspected. I've bought a fake
The Speedy's made in the 80's for a few years by The French Company had a bottom seam and a strip of leather which made both sides of the Speedy had right-side up LV's. They were not fake. This happened due to a labor dispute at LV in Paris. I have the large one and not only did the Speedy's have the leather strip, the cosmetic bags had nylon zippers.
The handles and leather trim looks soooo beautiful once it oxidizes. So pretty and rich looking.
Very informative.. As a man I'm not quite sure why I'm watching this, however I guess it will come in handy when dating xD
The 410 people who didn't like this are trying to sell fake bags 😂 Great video Winnie. So thorough and helpful for buying pre-loved bags 👌🏼
Hi, yes LV handles when new are light cream, as time passes they naturally turn a tan colour. Enjoy your LV!
I take very good care of my LV purses. I have not experienced any darkening or change of color and I bought mine straight from an LV store. Just saying in case people saw this and worried their bags were not authentic. They don't fade if you keep them in the dust bags and only use them on special occasions :)
I love these videos, I nearly bought a replica designer handbag thinking it was real! Thank god I watched this before hand!
I can't believe I just watched 12 minutes of that... and I'm a straight male.
I understand your replica vs. authentic video is meant to help us buyers
know fake from real, but you're also helping the thieves make better
fakes, by pointing out what's wrong and what's right. This video has
probably helped make some excellent fakes with all the "authentic"
looking areas. All those thieves love videos like this.
About time! So many fakes! The newbies need to know this!
Thanks! We weren't aware of the 'Coated canvas' process many designers now use to make their bags, all very interesting. Many thanks for letting us know.
Hi VI means it was made in France. Assuming that it is an 80s bag the format is YYMM so 8912 is: Year 89 Month: December. We have further information on our blog. You can find the link on our website. All the best.
this is the best and most concise primer on authenticating LV bags. fortunately, there ls a great LV salon here in san francisco, so that is the best way to get authentic product. left you a thumb up for posting this great video.
Finally a video that just gets to the fucking point and skips all the bullshit thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much. 😂😊🙌🏻👜✌🏻
I really enjoyed your educational video on spotting a fake from a real LV speedy 25. Thank you so much for all of the info.
Sorry, I'm not a bag person, but I have an LV speedy that my mom bought before I was born(1983) she can't remember exactly when and it doesn't have any tags in it at all. It has the oxidation, the faded leather & burgundy and the pattern, but I've seen videos that said it should have 5 stitches on the handle tags but this has 6. So I think I have a high quality very well crafted fake from the 70's or 80's lol. Thanks for your video I was just curious.
Great info but am I the only one freaking out because she pointing at it with a pen/pencil 😨😳😱
Hi, thanks we weren't aware of this, obviously it feels like leather. Good insider tips!!
@danieldisco The cost of producing an exact copy is really the issue. Replicas cut corners, use cheaper materials and production techniques which explains why they can sell at such a low cost. Anyone attempting to copy an original product would simply buy the real product and analyse it anyway. Hope that helps.
I don't see the point of buying a fake one do you want quality over quantity the fake one is just going to break invest in something that's going to last yes it might be pricey but it's worth it
OMG! Thanks so much for the valuable information. I have learned so much from watching this one video.
Thanks! I'll hide the pen next time ;-)
This was a very informative and helpful video, after watching this video I felt comfortable searching for a preloved vintage bag. Thanks so much for sharing you knowledge!
Fabulous, however you stated that the monogram was printed on leather, but it's a coated canvas.
I am assuming the ones who disliked this video are counter fitters .
You're so cute Winnie lol I actually watched the whole thing and this video is VERY educational especially if you're looking to buy an LV 😄
wow i never knew there are so many details you can look for... i have a few LV bags all purchased in actual LV stores so i am not worried but i think i am going to put those bags to test against all your guidances. great vid!
We deal with 10,20 and 30 yr old LV so the details will vary from new LV. Thanks tho :-)
Thank-you for information. I know Men's Fashion Very Well, and being single I take out my friends shopping- And of Lady's Fashion, I am blind and this year devoting My Time Learning Lady's Fashion.
Hi, I agree threw me at first, SP for Spain makes more sense. But LV decided to use a more cryptic coding, go figure!!
this video is amazing, thank you so much omg. now I know the difference
Glad we helped. We wish you all the best in your search for genuine vintage.

Yes you are right! Since the video we've posted an update about the 'Coated canvas' process.
Thanks for your comments.
Hi, the meaning & format of the date code stamps change over time. We have written a guide for this on our blog site. You can find this from our website at the bottom of the page. Kind regards
So glad I found your videos. Can you discuss the Damier Ebene line? Also, how to pronounce the French name. Most of us butcher the names. Lastly, the cost and quality of high end designer bags. Chanel price increase over the past 5 years is outrageous.. Why?
EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you!
this is amazing! thank you so much, I have learned so much from this video
This is how LV knows if your bag is still covered of 2 years after sales service starting from the date of purchased. its applies globally..
speedys come in 4 sizes 25,30,35,and 40 the 45 is the keepall which is classed as luggage
The only leather parts of this speedy and similar products like the never full and keep all are the handles and trim. The rest of the bag covered in the monogram pattern is made of a canvas material. So in essence there is only a minimal amount of leather on these bag which reflects their relative price compared to a a full leather handbag, bag, wallet etc. Just wanting to make it known because when I found out I was less than impressed and disappointed to say the least!!
Great video though!
Amazing video! I love how you go into detail and the history of the brand. I hope to see more videos soon! (:
SP - France ??? isn't it Spain? it makes more sence...
Very good video Winnie! :) I remember years ago when I purchased mine, the woman at the LV store did use the term, "one continuous piece of leather," but it's probably a different process today....Thanks so much for the info :)
Thanks for the info. Love your video and love your voice!
thank you very much for this video, I all most purchase fake Louis Vuitton on ebay, i can't believe they sale fake one on ebay
Great news, why settle for a cheap fake.
We wish you all the best in your search for genuine vintage.

When you said "its one continuous piece of leather" for the wrap around method... you're are wrong, the only leather on the bag are the handles and pull tabs. The Brown material that has all the LVs on it is actually a chemical coated over the canvas. It is deep fried on to the canvas. I know this because i have two friends who work at Louis Vuitton.
I assume your date code looks like this: SA824 =CCYYM i.e CC=Country Italy 824=YYM 1982 April
Hi we only deal with vintage LV so we haven't come across the DU country prefix. I'm sure if you purchased this from LV directly you have nothing to worry about. All the best.
The bag is canvas not leather only the handles are leather I have a feeling u know what but said it by mistake
Thanks - we noticed our error too. We've posted amendments... much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this amazing video.. it is really helpful 🌹
Thanks! Much appreciated.
We wish you all the best in your search for genuine vintage.

Thank you for sharing, this is very helpful for all LV lovers...
This video was so helpful!!! Thank you!
Thank you for that information it's much appreciated.
all monogram patterning on the LV bags should appear 'mirrored' and evenly printed thanks!
Good question. From experience it always comes down to cost.
People who make fakes always cut corners, use inferior materials. Profit margins are as much of a concern for forgers as they are for a company like LV, you either go for cheap and cheerful or expensive and quality... Personally I like to save for something well made and that will last...
fantastic and very informative. please keep the vids coming on how to spot fake designer items. thanks
Thank you for the great video. This is one of the best authentication I have found.
On the date codes: There's been an update, the first and third number represent the WEEK of manufacture. So DU4121 is Made in France in the 42nd week of 2011. That's my Keepall 55's code :) Very detailed review. I had no idea about the 5 stitches. Brilliant
Hi, I'm not sure if there are any LV bags with logos on the inside. It would be best to pop into your nearest LV showroom and speak to a sales assistant. Kind regards.
Thanks! Much appreciated
We wish you all the best in your search for genuine vintage.

This is correct for new bags. Please take a look at our blog site (sorry I'm unable to post a link using TH-cam) we explain in more detail. Thanks!
Excellent video and information! thanks so very much now I know when I shop online how to tell the difference.
Such great information.
Hi Jonny,
Thanks. We will do more videos, promise :-)
Fleur de LEEEEE ( sorry... was killin me )
The first and third digit are for the week, and the second and forth digit are for the year.
Fantastic news, sounds like you got a great bargain!
Hi there. Yes we do, we've 5 vintage Gucci bags on our site Vintage Heirloom at the moment.
We wish you all the best in your search for genuine vintage.

should apply to most monogram but the video is best on speedy styles
Yes! Thanks for the correction.
LV has new rule for their date codes. Yours should be read as week 51th of year 2011.
can you do a brief video of the LV Neverfull Monogram which is also very popular? you dont have to re-explain the date stamp and the material. I want to get one and is interested in the exact design and hardware of the bag. Thanks!
Thank you!!! I just received my first pre loved LV from THE REAL REA L site and your video helped me make sure my bag was real!!
Thank you, i've been using it all my life ;-)
Hi, we've a blog which will help, 'Louis Vuitton - Understanding Date Stamp Codes' that should help. You can find this blog on our website Vintage Heirloom, just look for the blog link.

I think it means the 14th week in 2011.

Very informative video. I used your information recently to help authenticate a vintage Louis Vuitton bag I was looking to purchase.
Hi to meet demand LV have outsourced bags and they are now made in several countries.
Kind regards
Hi please take a look at our blog site (sorry I'm unable to post a link using TH-cam).
great job winnie
Love all your videos! Now i know why are all these branded bags are expensive. Good day. =)
Hi, thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately we are unable to respond to individual requests for verification advice.
Each week we receive a large volume of requests to authenticate vintage bags and jewellery.
We hope to add more videos in the future.
We do recommend posting your enquiry on PurseForum or contacting LV directly.
We wish you all the best in your search for genuine vintage.

Yes I could mean that
Thanks you for this great information.
Great information. I will definitely be pre-cautious when purchasing vintage handbags from co-assignment shops.
sorry cannot help I only know the classic mongram styles... best to ask your nearest LV store
You are so helpful thanks (:
Thank you for this very helpful video ♥
25 is the week not the month. So it was made in July I think. There are 4 weeks in a month so 4 x 6 = 24. So week 25 would be July of 2011.
Thx for the vid, but how could ur Top 5 not include Gucci, Cartier Marcello or Tom Ford?
Hi! I have a question about step 1... does that rule apply to any of the bags that have the monogram pattern? or just for the speedy bag?
thank you for your response you are very helpful
Thanks, much appreciated!
Could you help see if this date code is real, it's on a vintage Keepall 45 with strap. At the top it says .V.I. and at the bottom it says 8912
