    Great video. I almost went to Annapolis about 15 years ago. My life would have been very different. Glad I got a small taste of what it may have been like. I'm also a Cal Alum. I like your 1 sec a day routine for your videos. It's a good format that works. I'm surprised you only have 180 subs. Take care.

    I’m a senior in high school and haven’t heard back of my acceptance/denial to the Naval Academy. If I get accepted, I am definitely going. However if I do not, I have been struggling to decide between doing NROTC at NC State to then re-apply to the academy after a year, or do NROTC at The Citadel. After watching this, I’m definitely going to re-apply. I cannot pass up the possibility of experiencing all of this.

      +wylde Carmona Gonzalez - Thanks for the comment. I feel that the most important aspects of your application package revolve around three things: academics, athletics, and other aspects that highlight your character and leadership ability - in that order. In terms of academics, come in with as high of a GPA as possible along with a high ranking within your school; in addition taking AP courses along with high marks and a high SAT score are probably just as important. I feel that the Naval Academy weights this higher than most other aspects of your application. In regards to athletics, ensure to do well on the physical test as well as show aptitude for sport - whether demonstrated in organized high school sports or in other venues. In regards to character/leadership ability - there are several ways to demonstrate this I feel, including from being captain of your athletics teams, Boy Scouts, extra-curricular activities, school government, etc. The possibilities are endless really as long as you show that you are a person of high moral standing with good character and potential to be a leader.
      In regards to myself personally, I tried to hit as many of the wickets as I could that I mentioned previously. As such, I applied as a salutatorian with 4.0 GPA at the top of my HS with numerous AP test validations and a relatively high SAT marks. In addition I was a 3 sport varsity athlete for my four years of HS. In regards to extra-curriculars, I was involved in several organizations within HS and out of HS, including school government, the Boy Scouts, and several community service oriented HS clubs. Try to make yourself stand out further with unique letters of recommendations, personal statements, and other ways to demonstrate that you a top candidate. One way I accomplished this was writing a personal statement on my bicycle trip across the United States to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Boys and Girls Club.
      In general - the Academy is looking for well-rounded student-athletes with the ability to lead. In the end, graduates of the USNA will be serving in stressful and dangerous environments, often while also being in charge of other men and women. There is no perfect method on how to create a capable officer, however the Academy takes the approach that if you excel in those three areas mentioned previously, then you can be taught the skills required to begin as an Ensign or 2nd Lt. in the Navy/Marine Corps family while at the Academy.
      Feel free to PM me with any questions, and good luck!!

      +James Mackovjak No man thank you for answering haha. Wow you blew me out of the water I thought I was doing at least decent as I currently have a 3.8 GPA and volunteer but I don't even compare. I was in wrestling and did fairly well but felt it had taken to much time away from my studies. Should I give wrestling another shot? what do you recommend that I should do?

      unfortunately I think you're entirely misinformed. If you're a perfectly capable person going into the process, you'll surely come out only better. I think your whole concept of the Academy is flawed. Have you gone to a US Military Academy?

  • @izzydiaz2005

    Please excuse my ignorance but how does one become a Marine Corps officer in the Naval Academy? Are the people that become Marine Corps officers put into a different category than the people that will become Naval officers? In your video I saw that someone was wear Marine cammies. Do midshipmen that want to become USMC officers wear those when you guys go to the field other then the Navy cammies? Midshipmen that want to become Marine Corps officers do they have to take different courses then others? I really want to become a Marine Corps officer and I would like to go to the Naval Academy to achieve this. Please help me out and tell me the differences between the Navy and the Marine Corps and the difference between what people would wear and the courses they would take at the Academy. Thanks.

    • @jamesmackovjak3544
      @jamesmackovjak3544  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Navy and Marine Corps Officers go through essentially all of the same academic and military courses. The only differences occur during your 2/C summer (time between Junior and Senior year) where one goes to a specialized month long evolution for Marine hopefuls called Leatherneck. Depending on performance while at the Academy (in terms of academics, athletics, conduct, and other performance metrics), performance at Leatherneck, and the quotas that the Naval Academy must fit (each year a different number of Marine Corps Officers are needed, during my year it was ~ 300 out of ~1100) will be the determining factor on whether you get your desired service selection or not.
      Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.
