Hi. This has to be the best instructional video so far for doing this very tricky operation. I just converted mine yesterday using your video and it worked beautifully. Thankyou.
I destroyed 3 radios once with smd devices. Will never touch again went back to conventional designs. Good video. I know the sischip. Used a couple for various other functions. I would rather buy a suitable radio than do this mod. It's a challenge and educational, that's what it's about.
Great tutorial thanks for taking the time making this!!! I did the mod today and flashed firmware UV-K5 HF 0.5, does anyone know what I need to upload my channels in chirp? I tried stock chirp, chirp with egzumer module, ijv module but they all say its not compatible with CEC HF0.5, IJV was able to read and upload but then nothing is there. Of course I did reset ALL after flashing the full band firmware.
I tried like you said but the problem is that after flashing CEC I have to reset ALL in the hidden menue otherwise nothing is working, not the backlight, the screen has weird artifact everything is off only after I reset all it works but then I cannot upload anything........its weird @@takeapart
Broke the screen cable while disassembling. For some strange reasons it was glued to the top. Be careful when disassembling. Unfortunately it is imposible to recover screen cable.
Hi, I have installed this kit, with the right sw but volume level is low (it seems that is all right because I receive the signal correctly). ---------Do you have suggestions ?
Not a great help to you as you have already installed it but there is a newer module that includes an amplifier circuit, to correct this low volume. It's the brown module. You probably already know this by now. Not too expensive to install the newer one, though, if you wish.
That’s half correct. They are both resistors! But they serve as chokes. A resistor resists, yes? “Choking” The current. Been doing electronics since 1974😇
what I do... I can not get the resistor under teh screen off... hot air up to 500 degrees... a solder tweezer, 2 solder points.... i can not get it off... what the hell is wrong with my board...
Many years ago I ordered parts for a project. Unfortunately the capacitors were missing. I looked and looked. I had never seen smd devices before fully. You can guess I had thrown them out with the packaging. So small I never saw them. Well I found them in the Bin. What are these, just tiny Dots. It was hell dealing with them. I failed badly and the project was completed using normal caps . They stood vertically, but it all worked ok. They were only for decoupling.
Does anybody know someone who will do this for a price? I've soldered before, but this looks a bit out of my league! Potentially a good business if you are handy at this.
Hi , for sure any electrical repair shop can do it- but you will be paying and with price of components and labor…. where does anyone draw a line for “it’s not worth it” ? just modification kit costs like 75% of new UVK5 and it installation labor hmmm!?
@@takeapart I t h i n k I can do this, but it fills me with dread thinking about it. I have another Quansheng UV K5 (8) coming soon, so with a spare one I think it will give me the confidence to do it and not be left without a radio.
1:37 why the hell all the time you call small green element as resistor because it is not resistor, it is inductor ? Later found that you truly mixing components, 4:20 you call capacitor as resistor, and resistor as capacitor, hmmm must be you missed to sleep well night before video is made, or you have way to much beer inside. Whatever video is ok however calling components with wrong names is not ok .
What a butchered install especially cutting the chips legs off, obviously not a pro have you ever heard of flux?... This could of been so much nicer of an install.
thanks for your input, I haven’t heard of many things…. also functionality and speed wins ! Not every uvk5 owner is artist/soldering specialist…. my video may encourage them to actually try.
I noticed faster battery drain…. nothing crazy, but worth mentioning….
please don’t ask… I don’t even have right antenna for those frequencies….
@takeapart the more the power drain, the More transmission power the More Ampage the More Ampage better transmission and More Recieveves awesome 👌

it is not easiest thing to do , but totally doable…. it requires steady hands and clean head ….
Today I learned that the UV-K6 can be pulled apart. The more you know!
yeah just by pulling… no screws
Great video. Thanks! My favorite radio!
btw. You can change out speaker if you desire!
stay tuned… may happen in future video
Just measure speaker for correct size and get one for a stereo speaker. I got two on Amazon a while ago!
Thanx!
@johnemmons9087 will do! thank you
Great tutorial, with details. What about doing another one with the other mod kit available? (orange thin PCB one ?)
thanks, I may do another…. but need to get kit
@@takeapart Looking forward to !! (I even don't mind ordering the kit for you if necessary)

absolutely! thanks for your input

I uploded my channels before I flashed CEC… so with stock FW. then channels will stay in
@@takeapart So that would mean that all changes after flashing CEC would have to be done on the device itself......hmm sounds not very convenient.

It's not a resistor, it's a choke. You removed a choke and added a different value.
