    How things have changed, you guys n gals hi, you got it. I must say it was a lot easier in the early days, it was a case of who you knew etc. but don’t get me wrong lots of things changed as the years rolled by, it can be savage, but one must set their own boundaries on rostered on/off lifestyles but the most important your own self respect. 26years from Dump Truck to Diggers then Hydraulic Shovels, Electric Rope Shovels then retired on my beloved dragline. My advice to you younger guys n gals. Follow the Rules, safety procedures on all passed out machinery, do this you will survive. Watch the alcohol, I’ve seen it all, don’t worry about the hourly rate, it will over time take care of you through experience. Good luck.

      beautiful place for sure , very big mine south flank has basically become part of it , so probably biggest iron ore mine in Australia now . lots of politics . i need to be careful what i say here sorry as can be sacked for mentioning the place in bad way but like most , food is average occasionly get freshly cooked food but very rare and lunch they run out of food by fridays and restock is sundays rooms are ok only single kids beds tho so if tall feet hangover. good luck lots of new people on site so be carefull near misses every day that get swept under the carpet .

    I'm from USA in 1980 I was working on a rotary exploration rig in Utah, it was a camp job we lived in tents bathed in a creek. Left there went to AZ copper mine worked underground on a core rig. lived in trailers at mine. Would go dirt biking everyday. You have it pretty nice.

    What an incredible video, I thank you for uploading it. My partner is desperately trying to get his foot in the door. BHP is only hiring desiel mechanics so we went on the mining Australia website and payed $215 for their help to get into the industry but still waiting on their response. I know this is probably a common and annoying question but how did you get the job? My partner has his HR, bobcat, escavator, roller and many more tickets and years and years experience in commercial construction but mining has been his dream since I met him. Now more then ever with our son's autism diagnosis he really wants to get out there and start earning the type of money that could get our son the support he needs. Any tips would be worth gold to our family. Thank you and God bless!! PS the photos at the end are incredible 😍

      Hi mate thanks for the kind words. The best way is become a contractor first thats how i started contractor to a company that had jobs on sight then got to know the people and proved myself then they asked me to swap over. That can be any way eg cleaner , bartender contractor op. HAYS are the biggest and do a lot of work in pilbara try and find out what contractors are working in the mine that your looking at or which ones work for the big boys . if not try the back door and camp services like cleaning and bar still pay decent money not the best but good way to see if the life is for you and can meet people with the connections. hope this helps good luck as with all mining harder to get in then the actual job itself.

      @justtania333 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow thank you so much for getting back to me and so quickly aswell :) I almost feel like I'm talking to a celebrity because it's so hard to get into the mines you never meet anyone who is actually in lol. I'm going to start doing some research on contractors and HAYS etc thank you !! At the moment all the jobs that are available are confusing in their job descriptions. Some sound like my partner would be qualified to do them but then they will randomly ask for more qualifications as you keep reading. All the job titles are very foreign to me but I'm learning. Is there anyway he could get in as a chippy or would he have better luck as a dump truck driver because he has a few years experience in transport ?
      Wish it was easier for our Aussie boys to just apply and get it but I'm not giving up :)

    • @34Media

      Yeah they like to make it sound more then it is . Just wondering which Australian university you went to? My son is studying in NSW but wants to do a Masters at Curtin once he has his degree, as Curtin rank No. 2 in the world for mining and minerals processing. It's good to know that just being based in WA will be helpful in terms of getting that first job. But also if you are professionally qualified in mining engineering, can you ask people at your university for help? You would expect them to have contacts in the industry who could point you in the right direction. Cheers.

    • @34Media
      @34Media  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Mate , cheers for stopping by. most big companies have a large intake each year for apprenticeships . So apply to bhp , rio , fog see if you can score one of those apprenticeships to start with. Othe then that some times better to get a job with an OEM (machine makers) then you'll get to experience life in the bush. Its not for everyone and that way can choose different path if you want so try a caterpillar , hitachi , liebherr for apprenticeship. Electrical HV is definitely the best way forward no matter what you do. Mining like all other fossil fuel industries are dying and will become all electric one day, so def great path to guarantee a job for you . Good luck 🤞

    Hey mate Sydneysider here I'm Australian citizen and thinking about working as a dump truck operator with end goal as a foreman or jumbo operator I just started looking seriously into working on a mine or just high paying job for awhile now I'm currently a cleaner and honestly don't mind it but the pay can't get past 45K in my area.. I have a few questions if that is alright
    - what jobs do you recommend that pay well or above 65K that are not sparkies or mechanics.. does dump truck operator need anything besides just a hr license and Australian citizenship
    - who pays for the air fares or travel between fifo
    - Not really a question but would flying between Sydney and Western Australia work out or do you have to be in WA flying out to remote mine sites in WA
    - what's the hiring climate like now
    - I was considering hospitality and cooking but I think I would be only fine with cleaning or driving for now definitely not ready to try electrical or automotive
    - what is a driller or nipper
    - what qualifications and certification do you need for foreman or jumbo operator
    Thanks man hope you had a good new year.. I like the remote lifestyle that's why I'm considering this as a replacement for my current casual cleaning job which gets me about 45K during these covid times but after covid work will dry up and I will lose about 10K of annual work that's why I'm considering working at a mine as a cleaner or driver or other no degree job

      Hey mate happy new year! Most ops about the 80 grand a year for 2 on 1 off rosters, lot of different rosters out there at moment. no real qualifications needed not even HR anymore most ops we have on site have zero experience in anything let alone driving ! flights now days have to pay for them i will have to pay for mine again when i move back to qld. companies making more then they ever have but tighter then ever give you nothing ! We cant even get biscuits anymore get chinese versions tight arse city big time. A lot of companies putting heaps of pressure on employees to move to WA , i got threatened yesterday that when i move my company might try to sack me for living in another state?? So Living heer def make it easier hence why we have no skilled people anymore none in the state. They are def hiring as the money is so crap no one with any skills will take it and are staying contractors so the big companies can only get new starters that have no experience so that's a good opportunity, try ESS they run our whole company camps if you want cooking cleaning side lower money maybe $60 grand a year . driller just drives drills or pushes buttons most are automated except the baby ones. And most trucks are going autonomous too so only plan short term on the op side ! supervisors just need experience leading most of ours have no skills just yes men so kissing butt helps lol and also sorting out people's life problems seems to be the other main job for super lol we've had massage therapists and bartenders become supervisors and not have a clue about anything mechanical very scary place as they can make decisions that can kill people . other then that keep trying .

Curtin University partner with the mining industry in WA so maybe consider a Masters there once you have your degree, or look at what you could do at your existing uni which will move you further towards these fields.
