Ruth Brock, a bank employee in a small town, carries an undeserved reputation for being promiscuous, leading her to face a relentless stream of hopeful suitors. Skillfully deflecting their advances, Ruth maintains her integrity until a disgruntled last suitor, scorned and bitter, ignites a vicious rumor linking her romantically to a notorious millionaire playboy. As the rumor spirals out of control, Ruth finds herself unfairly dismissed from her job. Faced with societal judgment and nothing left to lose, Ruth decides to confront the millionaire playboy himself, setting off a chain of events that could either clear her name or complicate her life even further.
