I love this song. I belong to The Old Regular Primitive Baptist Church , The Elkhorn Association. We sing this song often. ❤

This reminds me of many., many summers at my grandparents and Sundays that were spent pretty much all day at the Primitive Baptist churches. We went to a different church every Sunday to make sure that everyone in the county could attend. Great Uncle Thurmond was an elder, my grandfather's brother. I miss my grandfather! That man was with me all the summers because grandma still worked.

Thank you for this..not only will your family cherish this video one day, I wish I had one of my papaw singing from his song book. Many of these same songs. This video has helped my mamaw during her recovery from a very severe stroke. She responds to this video and sings every word. I hope the good Lord blesses him and your family.

That was so great. Wonderful singing your papaw did!! I love old time singing!! Both of my grand parents where Old Regular Baptists. When they line a song out I can close my eyes & hear my one granny singing!!! Good memories!!! I am a Primitive Baptist!!! Love our Old ways of doing things & being in order with God. My step mom gave me some of my Daddy's photo albums and a old 1944 Old Regular Song Book of my papaws. He lead the songs out of it. They said he had a beautiful voice. But I never heard him sing. And never new til he passed away that he lead songs in church. They said my papaw would preach or testify a little bit but he never thought that was a calling from God to him to preach. Everyone would say God is calling you to preach but my papaw never did. And after serval times turning down to preach, papaw said The Lord took his singing voice from him for not listening to be called to preach. And he never could sing after that. Lost his singing voice!!! I would love to learn these songs out of the Song Book but I don't know anyone who does that kind of singing. Just what I hear on here & one of our preachers lines a few. If you don't live to far from me maybe your papaw might know some of them & could teach me. I would pay him to teach me!! It would be a great honor!!! y'all seem like my family, just good country folk!! Cornbread, beans & tators!!! thank you so much for recording your papaw singing. I have truly been Blessed.

Thank you for sharing this, my papaw passed away three weeks ago, my last grandparent, and he was old regular, and I grew up hearing him sing like this every morning, and this is the most beautiful singing ever there is.

Thank you for recording and sharing this beautiful gem. Your family will be so glad it is preserved. I will admit to you that I am a liberal northwestern city girl that just learned an hour ago what 'Old Regular Baptist' is and it brought me to tears. My dad was born in Freeburn Kentucky and I have long suspected that some of this was buried deep in my dna and my emotional reaction to hearing your granddad sing only confirms it. I only ran across this because I am taking a Music as Anthropology class at university so please know that your video has contributed to the learning of those of us ignorant city kids that never knew. I have posted your video to my class forum online and am hoping for some dialogue around it. Thank you again.

      Shanna Osborne,
Yes M'aam, mine too! It reminds me of John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. The strange thing to me is that I had a Great Uncle who sang songs like this and I'm from Delaware. I'm from a Nanticoke Indian family of people who worship in a small country church called Indian Mission Church. I wonder how we got this style of singing so far up north. Only a few of our elderly folks know these songs anymore.

Shanna, would you please let me know the address in which to order the Old Regular Baptist Book.......I'm United Baptist and I love so many of the songs out of that book......I used to have one but that's been many years ago. Beautiful video. Thank you!

Thanks for Video. I grew up going to Old Regular Baptist Sardis Association Dingess West Virginia. I now live in Tennessee and miss hearing the hymns sung in church there. No other Church sing like the Old Regular Baptist. They have their own style and when I think of West Virginia( which I will always consider my home) I think of Old Regular Baptist music. Where are you located? Your grandfather has a beautiful voice. Thanks again for posting this, hearing it takes me back home.

I myself would love to have a copy of this book. How would I start an ORB Church in my area without there being an association here? 226 East Hawthorne St., Apt. 1, Florence, AL, 35630

Does anyone know the name of this songbook? I've been trying to find it, but can't. I know a couple of these, such as Great High Mountain, but only because I listen to Bluegrass, which is heavily influenced by these songs.
Hardly anyone in my generation knows about these songs...

      +the32712 FYI for anyone interested:
I found information on some of it. One of the hymnbooks churches like this use are Goble Hymnbooks. They';re available from the Primitive Baptist Library here -> pblib.org/Goble.html
I got two of them for Christmas, only 8 bucks each and they contain about half of these hymns in this video. The other hymnbook to look for is the Sweet Songster hymnbook, which also contains many of these hymns. I haven't found a hardcopy of this hymnbook, only an electronic copy.

the32712 I’m sure you’ve probably found it by now but the sweet songster is on amazon. At least it is now.
