    I was a Honda fan for nearly 3 decades and recently have been turned off by the drivetrain direction Honda has been going in, so I researched for months and ended up getting a CX-5 and I believe if more people give Mazda a chance they will realize that you get a lot more car for your money, and end up with a car you really enjoy driving and owning rather than just living with it.

    I don’t usually like red on cars but damn that red is gorgeous! My wife and I just purchased a white 2019 CX9 touring and it’s an amazing vehicle. Does not feel like a 3 row SUV at all! Amazing engine and transmission and plenty of space. I am looking at getting either a CX5 or CX50 as my next vehicle but I will have a very hard time parting with my ‘04 Suburban as that car is an absolute tank! Thanks for a great review! Take care!

    I'll echo your comments on the transmission, I love the SkyActiv transmissions in both our Mazdas. They shift perfectly every time, and they're snappy too. I absolutely love how quick the response is when you floor it. They dont exactly have a ton of power, but they are so quick to shift that it gives you what it has quickly.

    Insightful and interesting review of the CX5. I've had one on order for over 6 months and take delivery in a couple of weeks. I went for the auto 184 BHP diesel in sport trim, which is the top spec with FWD, and comes with most of the bells and whistles. I went for a diesel for fuel economy and plenty of low down grunt. For you guys freaking out about mid range gas going over $5 gallon in the US, spare a thought for our rip off prices in the UK where we are screwed $10.60 for your mid grade equivalent and even more for diesel !!

    I purchased a CX-5 Preferred in Deep Crystal Blue a month ago. I was also looking at the CR-V and RAV4, but I they just didn't impress me that much. In my opinion, no one in this class comes close to the driving enjoyment, upscale feel, and refined, elegant styling of the CX-5. While I would have like liked a little more storage space, the CX-5 suits my lifestyle pretty well. I'm really happy with my choice and look forward to many years of driving enjoyment.

Just sucks that it didn't have the Bose audio system and the power lift gate, I would rather have those and the roof racks than the messy credit they gave me, but didn't feel like paying $60 more a month for the red paint and the power lift gate in lieu of the $160 credit, other than that, its amazing.

    When you buy a Toyota or Honda, you appreciate Toyota and Honda durability.
    When you buy a Hyundai, Kia or some GMC vehicles, you feel impressed by tech until you realize that it was cheaply implemented. It's reminds me of the old Sanyo products -- the discount attempts to compete with Sony and Samsung.
    When you buy Mazda, you're surprised that you received so much quality for so little money.

    You're right about Honda. Their interiors are well built, but don't look or feel special like Mazda's does. I went from a leased 2017 Mazda 6 to a leased 2019 Accord before buying my 3, and the Accord's interior was definitely a step down from the 6 and maybe even my 3. Not only that, but the Accord's automatic emergency braking system tried to kill me on numerous occasions by just slamming on the brakes with nothing in front of me. You made the right choice by avoid the CR-V

      I honestly don’t understand why everyone’s afraid of cylinder deactivation - they figured it out in 2018 (software issues). • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was CVT-curious when I became one of the first Nissan Versa owners in Southern NH back in 2007; the driving experience was a bit different than I was used to, and I actually enjoyed driving it for what it was - then winter hit. You CANNOT rock a CVT equipped vehicle out of the snow - it gets stuck in whatever gear it was in last, then goes into a protect mode. Then the failure reports started rolling in on the forums… by 60,000 miles, my car was having strut tower bushing issues, ac compressor sounded like a Ford diesel engine, the engine was starting to consume oil, and it was developing piston slap when cold. I traded that car in for a 2006 Murano which was the single worst decision I had ever made on a vehicle purchase. In other words - I feel your pain!

    Bought one two weeks ago. It;s the blue paint and love the color. already too a 75mi each way fwy shakedown cruise as well as my crazy city. Plenty o punch for merging / fwy travel. To turn off the display just press the radio volume down for a second or two. In the drivers seat I feel above my paygrade. Sport mode has spunk1 Smart features are a drivers dream. it's a spunky driver version of this type which it seems every manufacturer has, and has some remarkably reliability numbers. My previous chariot was a Subaru legacy wagon, 95?
    I love driving this car, great for city use as far as parking and general traffic. Also want to mention the cab seems pretty quiet all around and I'm OK with the less than Bose audio.

    I have a few comments…
    In your video, you should have discussed the Buttons on the Steering wheel console (e.g. the music Volume Up/Down and Mute buttons) for safety.
    I love using them vs. the volume knob on. I also love that the Infotainment screen is not a touch screen. I think it is much safer this way.

    I do feel the as you about the small features are missing, as the light in the glove compartment and the light in the cargo compartment. Should be there for the price. But the quality and ride are excellent. Do you removed the covers guards under the car to spray the rust proof film? Or just sprayed in the suspension components. Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍

      I somehow manage without - with Mazda, it’s a better built vehicle than anything Nissan has built since 2002. People get too caught up in creature comforts, features, and niceties - and then complain when their bargain-basement priced Nissan Rogue or Hyundai blows up at 101,000 miles. Price-wise, the base model CX-5 is actually one of the least expensive vehicles in its class - yet it still offers some very nice features, like radar cruise and lane departure warnings.

    The wired Apple CarPlay/Andriod Auto seems like a negative until you realize the wireless chargers in cars and for home are not good for your phones battery because they cause heat buildup. With the wired connection your phone safely stays charged without heat buildup while you drive and use CarPlay/Android Auto features. So I see the wired connection as a plus.

    I’m surprised they went back on their cylinder deactivation. I have a cx30 and it was available on the top trim, but after 2020 they dropped it. I don’t care for the transmission in my CX30. They’re trying to make it act like a dual clutch when it’s not. I’d rather have the wet dual clutch like VW, or a standard automatic. It gets confused in hilly areas and grabs 2nd when crawling up a hill waiting to pull out, and I let off and it’s a high jerk since it has to quickly disengage the clutch.

      I had the same issue - Check your tire pressures! They leave the factory with as much as 60 PSI in each tire to prevent flat-spots while the car is sitting at the dock and traveling overseas. The dealer is supposed to drop the pressure to normal (35 psi), but mine did not. Correcting this made a HUGE difference. Also, you bought the carbon edition, which includes STUPID 19” low-profile tires. I’d tear those off and install a set of 17” wheels off a lower-trim model.

    Hello. I just watch this video of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 Preferred trim and enjoyed it very much. Like you, I just bought a 2022 CX-5 but the Select trim. I totally agree with you in a lot of your impressions of this unit and the selection decision. However, at only 400 miles driven, I have noticed a slight engine vibration when idle or stopped. Have you felt this also? I’ve been reading that it may be related to Skyactive-G “compression” technology. I don’t know. I’m not a mechanic but I’m just searching if it is normal or something wrong. Otherwise, I’m loving it and enjoy every time I drive it. Appreciate any feedback.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations on your purchase! Pretty much ALL four cylinder engines vibrate when at a stop light under a load. The vibration will change depending on a variety of factors including A/C compressor running (or not), engine temperature, whether it’s in drive or not… just drive it and maintain it properly - don’t listen to the salesman - change the oil every 4500 miles (MAX!!) and change the transmission fluid every 30k.

    The Mazda built Toyota Yaris has this type of menu system. Not my favorite, but it works.
    Also, the other failed Cylinder deactivation system was done by Chrysler. I know there are aftermarket delete kits, but I don't know if the manufacturer does.
    In my Toyota dealership, we've had Chryslers come in (That we have sold) that had this system that we had to send to Dodge or a Chrysler dealership since it eats the cams out when the system fails.

    • @bbishoppcm

      Mazda will likely run out the clock on the CX-5 until the CX-50 starts to outsell it - as it’s obvious the CX-50 is its successor. Mazda has a history of not getting too attached to vehicle names - the 626 was later renamed “6,” the GLC became the 323 which became the Protege which then became the “3”. The CX-3 became the CX-30, and the CX-5 will become the CX-50.

    I was hoping you would address the engine 2.5L 187 HP of the engine. Is this engine powerful enough for the auto? In addition, when the CX-5 decides on a Hybrid I am sure it will be a CVT. Time will tell. My wife and I have 2 Nissans a 2007 Murano (165K) and a 2008 Sentra (165K). Our next 2 vehicles one will be a Hybrid sedan which will give us 52+ MPG and then an SUV. Don't understand why one family has 2 identical vehicles.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have no idea why anyone thinks a compact suv needs more than 170HP… it’s a grocery getter, not a weekend track vehicle! It has plenty of torque to pass on the highway, and doesn’t complain when accerating from a dead stop either, all while averaging 25 mpg (i’m currently getting 31 highway!) Mazda uses this engine across their entire lineup and it performs well - and if you feel the need to shred your tires, they even offer a turbo version. Nothing could put be behind the wheel of another Nissan, unfortunately, unless they dump the Jatco CVTs. We both drive compact SUVs because we both need them - in my case, I do IT work between seven buildings and need to be able to transport equipment; I also use it to haul small bits of lumber and landscaping stuff for house projects. My girlfriend uses hers to pick up gardening supplies, and to haul stuff for her girlscout troop, as well as camping equipment. The CX-5 just does everything we need and pretty well. I’d prefer a hybrid myself, but the only option I’d consider is the Toyota RAV-4, which is unobtainable at the moment.

    Long but honest review.
    All Mazdas with sky active ATX from 2012 offer a tranny fluid dipstick ... tranny is not sealed with pretended God piss "lifetime" fluid that does not exist.
    I want to recommend you the best spend 16usd and you will thank me later... it is the only additive that offers all benefits and no drawback , Lubegard Platinum 10oz bottle .
    So syphon pump out 10oz of Mazda ATF and add 10oz of Lubegard Platinum .
    I have used it in all my Mazdas and some vehicle that allowed for easy add in over last 20 yrs and it is amazing ,even if you think tranny is smooth and perfect now.
    No it is not once you add Lubegard and give it few drive cycles to start it's magic .
    And magic it is, drivetrain noise will drop , up and down shift will become MUCH smoother and seamless , even great lever from D thru R and N will work with lesser effort .
    All while you will regain some power lost from torque converter so car will feel like it had some more power , car will be soooo smooth and seamless is operation . Due to less wear and heat generated tranny can operate up to 20F cooler in the summer and it will double it's lifespan .
    I just did a good deed , enjoy and thank me later and I know you will.
    Oh and Lubegard had tranny warrant extension once you added their product , you may want to call them to find out if that is still offered.
