Wesley Hunt Yes, but the cartoon has been part of Anerican culture forever, and American 'culture' is a hodgepodge of things from multiple places, so yes. @@KrystineBrown Exactly. I know this is a 3 year old video and comment thread but stuff like Sonic and Mario have always been exceedingly more popular in the States than in their home country of Japan. That’s not to say they *aren’t* popular there, especially Mario, but both have become so intertwined with American culture, it’s next to impossible to not see them in some shape or form. Same could be said for the Fatal Fury/King of Fighters games in Latin America.
@@theluigifan1 Yeah but its still not American. Just because its popular in your Country (even if its more then its Home Country) doesnt make it American.
@@LostSwiftpaw I actually didn't expect you to respond, but Im still happy you did. I thought the movie was decent, the writing and characters could have been better, but I'd watch this over the first two movies any day.
Man, by the looks of the trailers and the director this could been a great film. Either it's Sony's fault or the writers faults for making this film bad. However it is still better than the two live action Smurfs movies we got for today.
Wait.. I don't really get this movie's purpose tbh. I thought that in the original, all Smurfs were brought by the stork, which is why there was no need for females, and Smurfette was created by Gargamel as a tactic to lure in the Smurfs, or something along these lines. Kind of like how the Minions movie contradicted the previous movies, since they were created by Gru but suddenly they were made to just exist and follow evil creatures and villains.
Nyoom you are completely right. There is absolutely no need for female smurfs as they are brought to the village by storks. If the writers watched more than one season of the smurfs than they would have known that.
I don't think you guys understand the whole storks thing and unless these are magical storks (which they could be) there would still be females somewhere.
Noah Cg3 good try, but there is no such thing as natural female smurfs. There is plenty of evidence seeing as smurfs don't have belly buttons and they live up to be 1,000 years old due to the life stone. The only real female smurfs are smurfette, sassett, and nanny which were all created by blue clay and a spell. Every natural smurf is specifically brought to smurf village by a stork. We can only assume that the stork brings the baby smurfs from somewhere magical.😇
Yes actually it must be a magical stork, since a baby smurf is born only during the rare blue moon. I remember Papa Smurf saying that a baby will be delivered only on a blue moon by a stork.
You know what im confused about? So the Boy Smurfs Village knew about Gargamel and had no pretection at all. But the Girl Smurfs Village didnt know about Garamel. Yet the had weapons and had everything ready for Danger
Cell, you're my cinema hero! I am ALWAYS excited to see your work pop up in my subscriptions feed, because I KNOW it'll be the four things that grease my mental happy gears - witty, biting, plucky, and ENTERTAINING as heck! ... once again, I am PLEASED as purple pony punch! THANK YOU!
One thing I'll defently give them credit for is why the villages are so different The original village is a village of farming and gathering so they are more suited for it The new village is in a far more dangerous area and apeard to be a hunter gather village
My biggest problem with this movie is that it was marketed as a sequel when it's clearly a reboot. I mean I couldn't care less about the humans in the other two but I really liked the way they handled the Smurf personalities in these movies. Especially the father son relationship of papa smurf and clumpsy in the first one and the sister dynamic of smurfete and the new female smurf. If you want to call it a sequel continue that story in an animated form. But no they had to bait us into thinking it's a sequel and give us a shitty reboot instead
I did enjoy this movie, but I do feel there were some missed opportunities for Sony to make the story a little better given it's concept. I think that's why i liked this more than Boss Baby, because Boss Baby's concept was not a very good one for an hour and a half long movie, whereas Smurfs The Lost Village at least had a good start for a concept. It's defiantly questionable whether Sony actually did that concept well, but you can still make a good movie out of the idea of a girl trying to find her propose in life, whereas Boss Baby's concept about a baby who acts like an adult can only be funny as a small joke in a movie like in Who Framed Roger Rabbit or in a Looney Tunes short, but not as an entire feature.
When I went to go see this with my grandma she was fawning over how beautiful it was and I was just sitting there like ".... have you seen any animated movies lately...?" But I let her think that this was special because it was pretty wholesome watching her mind get blown over new technology
I want to do a small correction to a part in this video where you said the MLP characters were tied to one talent/thing;yes they have one main talent but they can still be good at a huge number of things like any other person. For example applejack is a great farmer but she's also good at baking or with Twilight where even tho her talent is magic she's still very good at science!
Finally saw it, and I did like a lot of aspects. I mean, we actually had Hefty instead of doing that Celtic smurf. Also, everyone forgets the sassette principle. XD
I think dreamworks was testing the water on this one, trying to see if they were going in the right direction by eliminating the animation-live action hybrid, I hope the criticism will tell them they are doing better and they will give Smurfs another chance with better treatment.
6:07 ... So girls can be whatever they want ( & HAVE TO be reminded of it) but boys can only have 1 specialty in their life? Ok ... totally not a big Slip up in the moral there right? :)
I actually enjoyed the movie a whole lot, even though I do would like to see more Smurfs being introduced instead of the usual group. It might be because I'm like, neck deep in Smurfs lore ever since I was a kid. Franco-Belgian comic books were my thing, and I actually quite liked the ending. A little bit cliche, and it can totally do without the poppy dance song at the end, but hey, it's fun and happy, and I am satisfied with the conclusion. It's an enjoyable movie, and I don't mind seeing it again at all.
Dude the smurfs was the very first movie that I ever saw and I just rewatched it and I’m just thinking “why did my family think this was a good idea, could I have just watched one of the Spider-Man movies instead.”
The movie actually surprised in the first fifteen minutes. They really explain the Smurfette Principle problem very plainly and it seems they are going to address the philosophical question, together with the angst of Smurfette about being an artificial being created by evil and then... nothing. Some generic adventures, some good comedy and it ends with the most unearned dance party in animation film history. Everybody proclaims some meaningless "she can be WHATEVER SHE WANTS" and dances to a Meghan Trainor song, the queen of empty, meaningless feminist commercialization . I actually had a lot of fun during the movie, moment to moment, but at the end I was almost screaming at the screen
I can never take the critics seriously ever again after they said that this movie's animation is "bland". What a load. What a goddamn load. Also, Smurfs: The Lost Village kicks Boss Baby in the balls anyday.
Smurfs was my childhood. Handy, Clumsy, and Brainy were my favorites! I hope the movie keeps the cartoons spirit (I haven't seen it yet) Also, are those girls Smurfs basically the Amazon warriors in smurf form??
I personally have ALOT of nostalgia for the Smurfs. Once I got ahold of my first collection of Smurfs cartoons at Target I was completely in love. I was interested in the first place because my mom was an absolute fan when she was a kid, so it became something else we shared in common. We went to see the first Smurfs movie in theaters (the NPH one), and actually liked it xD But after later viewings without her, I can clearly see we just had our big fat nostalgia glasses on the whole time xD I would have absolutely done anything for the opportunity to have seen this new movie in theaters with her but she's unfortunately not with me anymore. It was absolutely everything she wanted from the first movie, more time in the village and for it to be completely animated. No one took me to see it so I had to settle for seeing it at home and while I didn't love it ecstatically, it was certainly pleasant :)
9:18 In my own CinematicCritic review I made that exact reference. WHY THE HELL did Sony copy PERFECTLY the ending of "Pokemon" where tears 😭 resurrect Ash? No really WHY? I called it out by name in my review: "Hm why does this seem familiar? Oh ya...POKEMON THE FIRST MOVIE ALREADY DID THIS EXACT SAME THING!!!" And better, may I add...because it happened directly because mewtwo hits him and the "resurrection" ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING because it teaches Mewtwo a lesson. Did smurfs do THAT? Nope!
I just watched this for the first time, and since I've been rewatching the Hanna Barbera cartoon prior to this, I thought it fun. Not spectacular, although the animation was beautiful, but I definitely noticed how this film was like an episode of the Smurfs, though in an expansive sort of way. I'd personally give it between a 6.9 to 7/10, some of the writing could’ve used a couple of explanations, including the Lost Villages' existence, but overall, it doesn't hurt to watch this once in a while.
im sorry i have to. 5:54 . its established in the very first episode that cutie marks only establishes what a character is best at, and although they have other hobbies and interests, it doesnt completely describe who they are. and even then the cutie marks are made to describe them as they discover themselves, not to label them. im sure im not the first one who typed this, and if i see later in the video some sort of edit or something and that was just a joke, i dont expect anyone to see this.
I was torn on this one too, I really enjoyed the animation, most voices, and _some_ of the humor, but the rest was just...yeah. Also re: Gosnell, I enjoyed the Scooby Doo movie, for the most part, because it felt a lot like it was made for the fans. It's been the only time I liked something that had Scrappy Doo in it.
So far this year, it seems like the television studios are doing better than the movie studios as far as animation is concerned. I haven't really seen anything yet that I'd like to pay money for. Still, I might decide to rent this movie when it comes out of DVD.
This is literally one of the decent movies, but better than the previous Smurfs movies. Although, this is one of the underrated films of all time by Sony.
I watched the movie in my language (Spanish) and Gargamel's voice actor put in a lot of Mexican slang making him extremely hilarious and my favorite character. The only other characters I could think of that also had Mexican slang was JAKE THE DOG. GARGAMEL WAS A DOOF X JAKE THE DOG FUSION Also the girl Smurfs twist wasn't even spoiled to me by a trailer, it was spoiled to me by toys (including some sold in the cinema)
Personally I thought the ending had a good idea but it could have been improved on a lot for example when she did that hold magic abijah that thing should of have been a permanent spell that should have killed her and she should have stayed dead the ending would be powerful if she knew she was going to die if she did that and established she could do that but it hurts her a lot that would also show off her character development ending the on a bitter sweet note as we see the boy qnd girl smurfs come together and start a new series from then on maybe they could have young and tell them the story of Smurfette in sad and enjoyable way
I watched this film today with my family (it's on Netflix now), and surprisingly my dad really liked it. He tends not to watch many non-90's Disney animated films, so it was a genuinely surprising thing when he sat down and watched it. He mentioned at the beginning how he really disliked the acting in the other movies, and we all had an interesting conversation about that. My point is, this animated film is much better and more enjoyable than the last two, even for adults.
Okay first off: I get what you mean by how the film is split between people who think that it's good or bad, but I didn't care much about what other people said about it! I'll admit that! All I wanted to see was the Smurfs fighting Gargamel, to meet the other girl Smurfs, to see Gargamel care about Azrael, and to just ENJOY the fact that it's AT LEAST BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS TWO since it's animated...now with that said Smurfs is NOT an American cartoon it's a Belgian cartoon. Sure there were a few flaws in Smurfs: The Lost Village, but I still found it to be enjoyable enough for me to watch since I grew up with The Smurfs cartoon and I found it interesting that Hefty would save Gargamel when they KNOW that he's still a villain!!! I mean... WHAT DID HEFTY THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?! Anyway I STILL enjoyed it REGARDLESS of it's flaws, BUT the animation was sooo pretty 😄 Have a good day and keep up the good work and the time that you put into your videos I like your animation style and I have mad respect for you 😄👍
I saw it few weeks it's okay yet , I was hoping the lost village is not developed not enough focused same as the smurfs , and the ending is horribly done not spoil it's well , it's way better than previous movies .
Ah the smurfs, where we get characters named after their traits, such as intellect, strength, rage, and girl.

That’s not to say they *aren’t* popular there, especially Mario, but both have become so intertwined with American culture, it’s next to impossible to not see them in some shape or form.
Same could be said for the Fatal Fury/King of Fighters games in Latin America.
So are a lot of American's lol
@@theluigifan1 Yeah but its still not American. Just because its popular in your Country (even if its more then its Home Country) doesnt make it American.
This is the smurfs movie we need...and it's super underrated

It's been 3 years dude, did you like it or not!?
@@Treeeee2008 it was a pretty entertaining movie i will not lie
@@LostSwiftpaw I actually didn't expect you to respond, but Im still happy you did. I thought the movie was decent, the writing and characters could have been better, but I'd watch this over the first two movies any day.
Congrats on 69 likes
Nyoom I don't recall the first two Despicable Me movies saying that Gru created the Minions.
THANK YOU!
One thing I'll defently give them credit for is why the villages are so different
The original village is a village of farming and gathering so they are more suited for it
The new village is in a far more dangerous area and apeard to be a hunter gather village
I don't get why people call you an "SJW", when you upload videos like this that clearly show that you aren't

XD
I love this movie! A lot of people laughed when the Smurf with the sax played 'Careless Whispers'. Not sure why.
Gonna be honest for a second. The only big reason I'm seeing Captain Underpants is the chance that the MLP Movie trailer will show up.
PC-The Unicorn I can definitely understand that. The movie itself seems harmless.
What has your life become
Waste of money unless you personally want to watch Captain Underpants. It'll be on TH-cam before then, if not then soon after
Captain Underpants? My most hyped movie of 2017. Lbh there's gonna be more college students in the theater than kids
That
s sounds like an expensive reason just to see a trailer.
I think dreamworks was testing the water on this one, trying to see if they were going in the right direction by eliminating the animation-live action hybrid, I hope the criticism will tell them they are doing better and they will give Smurfs another chance with better treatment.
Arts Veiman This is made by Sony not DreamWorks.
The smurfs were actually comic book characters before becoming an animated show... just something americans tend to forget or simply not know.
6:07 ... So girls can be whatever they want ( & HAVE TO be reminded of it) but boys can only have 1 specialty in their life? Ok ... totally not a big Slip up in the moral there right? :)
yugoxgc i love it how girls can be sexist to boys but when boys be sexist to girls.......* civil war flash backs *
Papa Smurf doesn’t deserve this
Idea: Smurfette is mtf
She was artificially created through magic so probably not dude.
GirlBrony (Cringelord) Shhh let my dreams be dreams lol
Wreck it Ralph 2 ? My life is now complete !
2:55 one? one modern reference in the entire movie?

ONE?! THERE'S LIKE 100 AT LEAST
FANATIC PLANET Productions Don't you mean: "What a Smurfing load"?
I'm sorry.
Smurfs was my childhood. Handy, Clumsy, and Brainy were my favorites! I hope the movie keeps the cartoons spirit (I haven't seen it yet)
Also, are those girls Smurfs basically the Amazon warriors in smurf form??
Is no one gonna mention how this is cellspex's 100th video?
Hank Azaria as Gargamel was the absolute best and nobody can convince me otherwise!
Politically Correct Pinball - best kind of movie killer. great review
Nope!
All I wanted to hear was, "it's better than the two previous Smurf movies". That is all.
4:17 oh my god this aged like milk

I suddenly like this movie so much
I don't watch much of the Smurfs as a kid either but Smurfette is one of my favorite cartoon characters.
my favorite movie for this year has already been determined guardians of the Galaxy volume two. I laughed my ass of so much

Happy 4th anniversary to “Smurfs: The Lost Village”!🏡
I kinda wanted smurfette to remain dead at the end then then tease a sequel where papa discovers a way to revive her.
Jesus Christ it came out 7 YEARS AGO!!?!!?!?! man it feel like the smurfs came like a year or two but not 7! Guess I'm getting old...yay......
We also got a Sony Pictures Animation that doesn't actually have overly cartoony animation like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
I used to watch the smurfs all the time at my aunt’s house
I just watched this for the first time, and since I've been rewatching the Hanna Barbera cartoon prior to this, I thought it fun. Not spectacular, although the animation was beautiful, but I definitely noticed how this film was like an episode of the Smurfs, though in an expansive sort of way. I'd personally give it between a 6.9 to 7/10, some of the writing could’ve used a couple of explanations, including the Lost Villages' existence, but overall, it doesn't hurt to watch this once in a while.
This is the definition of a simple kids movie. It's not as bad as everyone says it but it's not the best movie
actually I am all for live action movies based on cartoons. I just wish they won't screw up most of the time.
1:59 the fact that you you put dragon Ball EVOLUTION there , I regained faith of humanity
10:26 it really looked like boss baby was literally playing with toys that eerily resemble cogsworth and lumiere from beauty and the beast
Uncle Quacker The baby was actually playing with cogsworth and Lumiere.
5:55 - If you're a feminist, Celly, I wish more were like and thought like you, at least in that area. ^_^
im sorry i have to. 5:54 . its established in the very first episode that cutie marks only establishes what a character is best at, and although they have other hobbies and interests, it doesnt completely describe who they are. and even then the cutie marks are made to describe them as they discover themselves, not to label them. im sure im not the first one who typed this, and if i see later in the video some sort of edit or something and that was just a joke, i dont expect anyone to see this.
5:56-6:07
PRAISE THE LORD. THERE'S ACTUALLY HOPE FOR HUMANITY.
“I’m so happy that Wreck-it-Ralph 2 is coming out!”
Oh, you regretted that. You regretted that HARD.
I love the Smurfs the Lost Village one of my favourite movies.
So far this year, it seems like the television studios are doing better than the movie studios as far as animation is concerned. I haven't really seen anything yet that I'd like to pay money for. Still, I might decide to rent this movie when it comes out of DVD.
Most enjoyable part of this review, learning wreck it Ralph 2 us coming, YAY!! :3
The part where Gargamel is freeze-balling everyone I was like, "HOW IS HE GETTING ALL OF YOU?!?"
Saw this in my subs. Clicked so fast My thumb smashed through my phone.
that movie looks beautiful
This is literally one of the decent movies, but better than the previous Smurfs movies. Although, this is one of the underrated films of all time by Sony.
How did I just discover this channel? You're awesome!
I watched the movie in my language (Spanish) and Gargamel's voice actor put in a lot of Mexican slang making him extremely hilarious and my favorite character. The only other characters I could think of that also had Mexican slang was JAKE THE DOG.
GARGAMEL WAS A DOOF X JAKE THE DOG FUSION
Also the girl Smurfs twist wasn't even spoiled to me by a trailer, it was spoiled to me by toys (including some sold in the cinema)
Diego98 Yeah when i saw the trailer i already knew there were gonna be girl Smurfs
Personally I thought the ending had a good idea but it could have been improved on a lot for example when she did that hold magic abijah that thing should of have been a permanent spell that should have killed her and she should have stayed dead the ending would be powerful if she knew she was going to die if she did that and established she could do that but it hurts her a lot that would also show off her character development ending the on a bitter sweet note as we see the boy qnd girl smurfs come together and start a new series from then on maybe they could have young and tell them the story of Smurfette in sad and enjoyable way
I already forgot this movie existed again.
U gonna review the Capin Underpants movie? Guvinile, but the clips they've shown made it look almost good....
9:12 Hmmmmm, WHERE DO I THINK THAT ALSO HAPPENED??? *COUGH COUGH POKEMON CRY SCENE *COUGH COUGH
I knew Clumsy sounded familiar!
Anyway I STILL enjoyed it REGARDLESS of it's flaws, BUT the animation was sooo pretty 😄
Have a good day and keep up the good work and the time that you put into your videos I like your animation style and I have mad respect for you 😄👍
What was your opinion rainn Wilson's voice acting for gargamal (or however it's spelled)
Are you gonna do a review on Samurai Jack Season 5 when its over?
Ok, she should obviously make her own movie
So we're all going to forget that Gargamel created Smurfette to lure the smurfs to their deaths?
