Wow, Aida what a fantastic performance I enjoyed every second of it! And I'm thrilled to see a recording of the kind of sword performance I remember seeing when I was just a kid visiting SF. So hard to explain to people who have never witnessed it! I know it's the tip of the iceberg, but what kind of sword do you use in order to be able to spin it on your head like that? Or is it simply practice? (LOL...simply) Thank you for everything, you're an inspiration
Thank you so much for your support. As we go into our golden years we miss having your purpose and career. I am blessed to have videos so when I wonder if I really was DANCER! Spinning it is really learning to stay in one place. I started with a slow spin making sure the sword handle moved with me and then as I would spin faster it stayed in the same place. once I was spinning fast when I would stop because I as staying exactly in the same place it would continue around. Sometimes. once or twice or even three times!!! If you ever have any questions email me aidaofsf@yahoo.com
Sorry I just saw your message. It is a real semitar and not a prop. To spin it you have to make sure that when you spin you stay under it. The trick is to start the spin very slowly so that the sword stays straight on your head. Then as you go faster it isn't turning but stays straight. Then when you stop it will spin in place. And yes, it is a lot of practice!! I worked at the Casbah in San Francisco from 1971 until 1983. This show was at the El Morocco restaurant which was opened by Fadil Shahin who owned the Casbah. This was at one of my student nights
Amazing! Couldn’t sop watching!
