#11 Aida of SF in Colorado
Aida Al Adawi
This was the show after a workshop in Ft Collins Colorado.
I was performing to a audio tape of one of my live shows from
the Casbah with Fadil Shahin on the Oud. You can really hear my cymbals even more than the music but for those of you who love zills it gives you a chance to really hear mine

#1 Aida singing Inta Omry Sahara Detroit

Aida Al Adawi I sang in Arabic in San Francisco at the Casbah and also on the road. This was at the Sahara Supper Club in Detroit, Michigan. Into Omry is of course a song for Om Kalthoum. I studied Classical Arabic at UC Berkeley where my wonderful professor George Saliba first made me say it as a poem before I could start singing it.
#20 Aida of SF at Greek Taverna SF
มุมมอง 2856 ปีที่แล้ว
Aida Al Adawi I worked at the Greek Taverna in San Francisco from the early 70s thru 1983. Pedro Haramis was a fabulous singer and played Bouzouki and Jerry was on Organ. Both top rate professionals who were such a gift to work with. The very first video camera that came out in the early 70s wasn't low light. Just having the ability to tape was amazing. One of our customers was vice president o...

Aida Al Adawi El Morocco was owned by Fadil Shahin who also owned the Casbah on Broadway in San Francisco. I worked both places and this was at one of my student nights. Fadil is on Oud and Khalil Aboud is on Drum. I always loved both of them so very much. They always played wonderful shows and were so generous.

Aida Al Adawi Omar Khayyam was in Garden City, Michigan. While they didn't like floor work I wasn't willing to give up doing my sword!! It is so sad that there are no more clubs with dancing. We were really blessed to dance when we did.

#6 Aida of SF at Sahara Detroit tray

Aida Al Adawi I came to Detroit because of Ousamma Naja who was a famous drummer from the Middle East. I met him when I taught at workshop for Jamila Salimpour in Lansing Michigan. He played for the show. I was on tour with "Holiday in Greece" and on my day off When I walked in the Sahara Supper Club he told Jalal Abro to hire me!! After I left the tour I came to work there. thanks! this is far out. Given how bad most in opera performances are, this is oddly satisfying.
Thank you for sharing this! Do you have any more footage of him? Do you when this took place?
que bailarines son? gracias!
Obrigado. russo Spb.
Bravo!
Who are the dancers?
Soviet Tajik dancers Malika Sabirova & Muzaffar Burkhanov
I haft the record of this .this version captures the exotic ness of anitiquety of summeria and persia .
Aida thank you so much for posting that. That's the only video I've seen of these musicians on TH-cam. This brought back so many good memories! *Shadia*
I used to dance to these musicians in Chicago. Sahara Club, The Cave and the club across from Midway airport on Cicero. I think it was Thousand and and one Nights. The drummer was Tommy and the tambourine player was Arsham.. I don't recognize the accordion player video didn't show much of him. This was back in the '70s and early '80s. Great guys!
Awesome! I love it
3:19 quel saut !! Magnifique
Amazing!
Wow, Aida what a fantastic performance I enjoyed every second of it! And I'm thrilled to see a recording of the kind of sword performance I remember seeing when I was just a kid visiting SF. So hard to explain to people who have never witnessed it! I know it's the tip of the iceberg, but what kind of sword do you use in order to be able to spin it on your head like that? Or is it simply practice? (LOL...simply) Thank you for everything, you're an inspiration <3 <3
Thank you so much for your support. As we go into our golden years we miss having your purpose and career. I am blessed to have videos so when I wonder if I really was DANCER! Spinning it is really learning to stay in one place. I started with a slow spin making sure the sword handle moved with me and then as I would spin faster it stayed in the same place. once I was spinning fast when I would stop because I as staying exactly in the same place it would continue around. Sometimes. once or twice or even three times!!! If you ever have any questions email me aidaofsf@yahoo.com
Sorry I just saw your message. It is a real semitar and not a prop. To spin it you have to make sure that when you spin you stay under it. The trick is to start the spin very slowly so that the sword stays straight on your head. Then as you go faster it isn't turning but stays straight. Then when you stop it will spin in place. And yes, it is a lot of practice!! I worked at the Casbah in San Francisco from 1971 until 1983. This show was at the El Morocco restaurant which was opened by Fadil Shahin who owned the Casbah. This was at one of my student nights
HOLY SHIT
A goddess! Thanks for sharing
pity the video is so bad it is hard to see
Qué más no hubiese querido yo que haber ido.
Everyone will LOVE Aida!!
Wow amazing energy & crowd control.
Too bad this guy didn't have the brains to sit down and get out of her damn space, this was not the time to show your stupidity.
THIS is perfection! And THIS sword dance is how it's supposed to be done, not swinging it around, play fighting with it, or using it as an alternate Assaya. Thank you so much for posting this - took me back to decades ago, floating down Memory Lane...
I got to dance here once! Just memories. Great job.
Great job. Brings back memories!
