    That damper caused me a lot of grief. A very comprehensive video. I took the side off the dashboard too. Top tip as I have just done mine. Use a sliver of sticky tape to cover the cut outs so the damper doesn’t keep falling off the glove box which can be removed at the end. Also discovered my car has had 3 Skoda services plus an independent one and it still had the original filter fitted. 👿

    Thank you for the excellent video. Just easily changed my filter (& even re-fitted the damper arm which was left unclipped by the previous 'technician'!)

    A huge thank you! Saved me A LOT of time.
    Didn't have to use any tools except a flashlight.
    Going in from the "side panel" feels like a really bad method. Yours was excellent!

    Thanks. Perfect description and found it really pretty simple. Damper does need to be fully extended to make it as easy as possible.

    Very helpful Chris, thanks.I prefer the look of your method to removing the side panel. Appreciate the time and trouble you took to show and explain everything and make sure it was all visible. Astonishing how many videos don't. You've earned a subscription from me ;-)

    Thanks for the video. Very good. I also had grief with relocating the damper arm as my hands were too big to go down the side to relocate it. I also took off the small side panel with a plastic trim remover I had which was easy and made clipping back the damper arm easier also. Like the sticky tape idea. Thanks again for taking the time to do the video.

    Well done, Chris. Excellent video. Everything very carefully explained and demonstrated, with some well chosen repetition to ensure we understand how it all fits together. Thank you. I meant to add that I too have a 2014 Octavia III right hand drive (here in Australia) station wagon. Great car but I have water leakage problems that might be coming from my sun roof, or from the front scuttle and through the pollen filter.

    I wanted to know how to change the fuses in the event of an emergency and the manual recommended to take the side panel off as you too pointed out. That would definitely scratch the plastic and hence I had no intention doing that. Was relieved to find your video which is simply excellent. Cheers mate 👍

    great video. i found it easier, during removal, to actually leave the dampener in situ (hook end) and to just twist out from the glove compartment end. This was really easy. Sadly, i couldn't reconnect with such ease and ended up using your method of reinstallation.

      On the right hand drive Mk2 it's much easier to replace the pollen filter. There is no glove box door to remove. You access the pollen filter housing from underneath, removing the polystyrene type cover first to see the rectangular housing.
      A simple slide of the door then allows you access to replace the filter.

  • @bvqbvq
    @bvqbvq 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    A nice video but it really is a lot easier if you remove the side panel as per the Skoda manual. It certainly simplifies clipping the damper back into position when reassembling the glove box. Just use a very thin flat-bladed screwdriver and that will avoid damaging the side panel.

    • @spooksy1982
      @spooksy1982 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is how I've done it in the past... there's kind of a reason they recommend doing it a certain way - usually because its the best way. Go figure.

    • @jonathanmellish4439
      @jonathanmellish4439 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spooksy1982 I followed the manual when I needed to access the fuse box and took the side off the dashboard but used my fingers rather than a screwdriver. However I have just changed the pollen filter using this video and it worked fine but a top tip is to use tape to stop the damper falling off.

    Take the dash side panel off. Comes off with fingers. Then pop the dampener off. Pulling the glovebox off first risks breaking your dampener.

      It is fiddly but I find it helped if you make sure the damper is fully extended before you try to clip it back onto the lug. If it slips out, remove the box, fully extend the damper again and the try again.
