  • Latin America is home to 826 indigenous peoples which, by the year 2010, included nearly 45 million people.
The United Nations has championed the promotion of their rights. In this video, ECLAC calls for the countries to put policies in practice to end inequalities suffered by indigenous peoples in the region.

Not lying Mexico went from 15 million to 25 million between 2000 & 2010 & Canada indigenous quadrupled their population. The Europeans got outted for their white drs forcefully sterilizing indigenous women from Canada down to Chile, estimating 50% of the child bearing women, the full blood indigenous women targeted first. Mestizos with high amounts targeted next.

THe process of assimilation (MESTIZAJE) forces native people in Latin America to Hispanicize. This process is cruel, destructive, and more often, irreversible.

Which is probably why a lot of mixed native people don't know what tribes they come from. It's sad.

@Annie wilson Mestizos/Hispanics are the majority in Latin America. While Natives represent as low as 1% (Argentina) or as high as 50% (Bolivia and Guatemala). Hispanic impose and force assimilation of Native population into the Hispanic society. Latin America never structuralized racism like the U.S, but we do see bullying, classism, intolerance for diversity, systems of marginalization (poorest places in Latin America are in Native communities).
