Stunning. He has no hesitation in answering these questions, and so eloquently. It's not about whether the sex pistols were "right" or "wrong". It's about freedom of choice or no freedom of choice.

Malcolm McLaren was a very shrewd guy. Apart from making punk a mainstream sensation, he had a huge part to play in getting hip hop recognised in the UK, a fact that has been almost totally forgotten. After visiting New York and seeing DJ's, rappers and breakers in the Bronx park, McLaren hired some of them and made 'Buffalo Gals' which got to number 2 on the UK chart in 1982. He knew how to sniff out alternative music that kids would enjoy because they knew their parents would hate it - if you know what I mean. Malcolm knew exactly how to tap in to the 'angry teenager' mentality.

    • @richardblock2458

He went to NY, learned about punk (going for three years at least), lifted it, went back to London and started the Sex Pistols, those 1 album wonders who couldn't play or sing. What a great contribution. Watch Pistol on Disney +. A true cultural vampire.

You can debate the logic and morality of some of Malcolm’s points / arguments but what you can’t debate is that he was in fact very articulate and quite the provocateur. Very entertaining.

Malcolm McLaren has Become one of my hero's, when The Sex Pistols launched themselves in the mainstream media back in 1976 , I was only 14yrs, and to be honest, for a homely shy kid from Hackney Wick, East London, It was just to much for me to take in, it went Over my head. Years later I've learned to admire this pivotal period in British music and popular culture, and Mr McLaren was at the centre of it, he was a smart, inspired and could sniff out original, socially challenging art from a mile away. RIP Malcolm, your a true trailblazer!

That is too simple. Freedom of choice is a privilege that comes with responsibility. You would not hand a two year old a loaded gun because they are not mature enough to know how to safely handle one. You do not allow an immature preteen to go to a concert with entertainers who encourage immoral, depraved or even simply bad manners. Parents are given the supreme responsibility to raise and nurture a human being to face the world as strong, moral and mature as possible.

Try to read exactly what I commented and stay on the subject at hand. If you want to talk morality as a subject, that is another matter. Your typical liberal answer is always to deflect, and then attack the person, usually with the usual tired old isms or ists instead of a meaningful discussion with agreeing or disagreeing points of view. In the end both adding to their knowledge, maturity, problem solving and resolving matters of importance or reinforcing, compromising even changing opinions. @@realsinisterminister OK, here we go. The Beatles were NOT more famous than Jesus and that was not what John meant. It was a lot deeper with a philosophical point as to their popularity as youth movement figureheads and the s whole social upheaval at the time, connected to the changing attitudes toward religion. Not necessarily against but actual change of views from church, pew, every Sun institutions, etc to personal seeking for the meaning of spirituality to religiosity. The first point which violently turned everyone against the war in Vietnam was the length. It was 15 years in when it could not be stomached anymore. The troop levels were also increased at that same time. No One could watch TV night after night seeing the increasing amount of body bags loaded on the planes for home. The
Gen played at war with our youth. Instead of going in with everything, they played politics instead. The rock groups were always turned on when their carousing and drug use became too front page and in your face. Also, just a part of human nature, everyone whom becomes famous and well liked gets knocked down by the public whom becomes sick of them eventually. Then they climb back up.
