Met Paul Weller early 90s. He was driving a Help the Aged van full of Grannies to a Church "do" in Basingstoke and then he got them settled down, pouring out the tea etc. Volunteer work. That's what makes a true star.
You can see how excited he is to be singing the song with PW. That's how good Weller is. That's how good the song was. That's how great The Jam will always be.
Loved Paul weller growing up when I was a child. Having older brother's listening to The Jam Ect. & I still love him now. Saw him in July @ Warwick Castle. Got to say he was fantastic.
Tell me about it mate no one can beat them and Paul weller and Liam the both of them are out of this world excellent choice mate with you 100 prc no betting them seen Paul at the ssc in Glasgow and it's different from the old appolo was the first time I heard them was in the 70to 80s they were and still are listening to all day never get fed up with hearing from Paul weller no one can touch him
As in all the Jam songs played by Paul Weller's solo band the rhythm seems to proceed with the handbrake on, it totally lacks that angry and idiosyncratic dynamic typical of the Foxton / Buckler duo
The late 70s was my last years at school then message in a bottle the police then we found the JAM was so sorry it ended but Paul you help us in our teen years thank you 😊
I love Kelly Jones, but you realise how critical Paul Weller's vocals and energy are to this song when you hear Jones sing. He is lost in the whole thing, whereas Weller bosses it.
@@thinkbig3384 I guess the world would be a boring place if we all saw things the same. I think the song is all wrong for him. Shows how important Bruce Foxton was......but peace.

@rdg rdg people passing themselves off as "working class heroes" (copied from that well known middle class fake John Lennon) & write songs against the elite private school system and then up sending their own kids to them kind of gives the impression of style no substance - a bit like his solo work after the Style council split up.For sure people can change - but it adds to my belief that deep down all the working classes want to do is be middle class.
There is a world of difference from private schools and the establishment which is the subject of this song@@revol148. So you hate Weller, that's ok, no-one should tell you what music to like but ignorance is no defence. When your Dad is a Brickie and your Mum is a cleaner you don't have much chance of being "middle class'. cun t

Paul Weller will forever be everyone's way cooler older brother.

Community service for a little bit of coke he had on him....
Exactly what date/time/location, please? I was his booking agent so he was elsewhere at the time!
Saw the real deal in 82 ...they let us watch the rehearsal before as well ..They were brilliant with the fans .😊
Loved this song since I was a kid. I'm 64 now.

Well this is interesting. And bloody good!
very talented still today

Would of loved to of been there!!!!
Paul!!!
So cooooool!!!
Steve Cradock as well, top class

greatest good song‼️

You had too much herbal tea fella? I grew up with The Jam however, Jones held himself perfectly in delivering a classic.

わーわー。Our forever star!!!
Wow
Where was Bruce?
God they're horribly underappreciated here in the states
Thought you were clever when you lit the fuse
Tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes
Compose a revolutionary symphony
Then went to bed with a charming young thing
Oh dear.
I love Kelly Jones.....but little unshaven Kelly singing Eton Rifles.....nah!!!
A gig I will take to the grave with me....
Paul Weller is an object lesson for the young: don't smoke, you'll wreck your voice.
The word you're looking for is "abject", and WTF are you talking about? His voice is still great after only recently quitting smoking.
There's a row going on down in slough, Wellers bairns are knocking about the workers
I love Weller but must confess to sometimes being confused by the people he chooses to collaborate with. Kelly Jones? Miles Kane?
Why shouldn’t he play with them?
Pretty Paul Weller didn't have a t v ad for bird trifle Eatontrife think that company who makes them and the money made year or supplies off birds trifel to and hear music playing in the ad
I know this is a few years late but Kelly old chap learn the words in the right order please
Really...what have you ever achieved that is creative, I am sure you struggle taking orders in the right order at the drive thru...idiot
I was embarrassed for Jones and the look Weller give him when he messed the lyrics up
Tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes..
Hello modfather.
You might as well have invited Camron or Bojo up to have a wee bit Royal Variety
Bass nothing like Bruce Foxton. Whole song spoilt by weak bass.
go and see from the jam [ive seen them 2ce and once at a scooter rally and hand on heart ,the northern soul room emptiaed..ive not seen that ever in 43 off wigan casino.manchester ritz days]awesome band
JJ Dundas true
Idiotic comment...1..it’s live with a scratch band...2... Foxton is a bitter man so is unlikely to appear..3..Weller is the talent..
Gee thanks.
Just drab music now from him

I don’t think Wellers ever forgot where he came from but granted can’t compare with the devastation caused by the miner strikes and mine closures.

Wow, Jones actually sounds alright when he's singing a decent song for a change.
Bit ironic now this song seen as Mr Weller sent his kids to private school
Mr Weller is the typical Left Wing Hypocrite! The list is endless but pretty much the majority of The Labour Party are just as bad if not worse!!!!!!
true id never slate weller I was a huge fan[northern.tamla and ska ] if it had been me my kids would have gone to a state school..
God forbid someone isn’t the same as when they were 18
Harpdashian But he still bangs on about David Cameron not getting Eton Rifles.
bob casidy He doesn’t still bang on about it he said it once about 6 years ago
Great song. Nearly as good as The Jam.
Horrible Video, If your a Bass Player, great song... love trying to play it on bass
Jones is woefully out of tune and ruins the dynamic of Weller's vocals. Yes Paul, you do miss Bruce............
No, he was amazing, no we don’t miss Bruce either.
@arabianknight839 your joking
Not same without the proper bass line
Weller sent his own kids to private school
