Those electric Deltas you mentioned in the end aren't real cars converted to electric, they are built as replicas and not the real thing. Greetings from one who has worked in rallycross since 2012
Thanks for clarifying king my blood was boiling.

Really enjoyed this video. My dad used to tell me stories of travelling across Norway to watch Martin Schanche drive. Apperantly he was absolutely crazy on, and off track. Incidents like him parking his private helicopter on the track, and waiting to be lapped only to take out a competitor made it all worth the travelling.
After finishing off his racing career, he became a local politician up north in Norway. Theres this famous clip of another politician calling him childish, and him responding by punching the guy on local TV.
Since then, news of Martin have slowly faded. Then again being 79 years this year, maybe its time he gets some rest.
Watching your video reminded me of my dad stories, and reminded me of the childhood I had that made me so passionate about cars in the first place. For that, you are getting a like and subscribe. Cant wait for your next video.
Thats really awesome to hear!! I myself am pretty new to rallycross but in researching this video i saw some really cool stuff and martin schanche was truly a standout. I need to look into him some more
These Group B stories are fascinating and fun to hear.
But they are all missing the the idea behind the Group A,B,C classifications.
The idea, as I remember it, was that groups should be used across all FIA sports car classes.
Group A was stock.
Group B was homologated.
Group C was prototype.
And the specs were guaranteed frozen across a number years.
The point was to make it easier and cheaper for more manufacturers to get into sports car racing.
It was a great idea.
The problem was that the specs where too loose, allowing the engineers to take the cars well beyond the expected performance levels.
It is a shame that the rally troubles caused the whole group concept to cancelled.
There were several other Group B cars that we never saw race because of the tragic events of Group B rallying.
Such as Ferrari 288 GTO, Porsche 959, Jaguar XJ220 and Mercedes 190.
A notable Group C we did get to see was the Porsche 962.
This is great I didnt realize this is where the group b went. Glad they got to keep running for so long after the ban
you could still see the group b cars in the British rallycross championship until a few years ago (now they only run in classics and retro events) watching them rip around Lydden was amazing but definitely started to loose pace over the newer RX supercars later in the 2000s through 2010s
Great video! I always loved the group B rallycross cars especially the 6r4. Neat bit of history not a lot of people know about it.
Thanks for the video. Big rally cross fan, never made the link between the two.
Fun fact a Lancia 037 was entered into the 3rd round of the 1994 JGTC (Super GT today) by Ross competition as a one-of at Fuji speedway. It finished 12th overall.
15 laps down.....
Love the video! This era of group b is very often overlooked and the racing footage is fantastic, thanks for shining a spotlight on it!
Great video! Excellent presentation, narration and pace. You deserve a lot more subscribers than the 83 you have right now!!!
even when the old group B cars disappeared from rallycross, the highest division kept the ~600hp awd formula for their successors, even to this day. 600hp ford escort? 600hp citroen xsara? 600hp saab 93? why yes please
At 6:41 there is a Ford Escort Ute….WTF How cool is that?!?
What a banger! Group-B is forever
Brilliant video!
Always loved Group B. Quality, detailed, informative video.
Thank you for using your human voice and not AI one. 👏👏👍👍👍
Yeah AI is unbearable, although I'm still left a bit confused if the 'Shonsh' repeatedly mentioned is actually Schanche??
@@mattteee2973 You can hear a bit of microphone popping so it's definitely a human being, no AI. I do not have time to rewatch the whole video, can you provide a time stamp for this "shonsh"?
@@gafrers I'm agreeing with you on the AI! I can't watch more than a few seconds of it so its great to hear people talking.
Schanche/shonsh seems to alternate most of the way through the video, thats why I wondered if it was 2 different people.
@@mattteee2973 Thanks for explaining. Might be due to editing different recording sessions
Eddi Laumanns is an endless source of rallycross information. He attended every single round of the ERC/ERX or whatever it was called. He didn't miss one round and has a photo catalog like you wouldn't believe. Needless to say he was a photographer of these events and has very good connections in the old generation of rallycross drivers.
BTW I love the way you say Schanche! It's very wrong, but very funny! It's like you would say skank with an E at the end "SkankE" or as many reporters from Britain would say "ShankE". Great video sir. 😁
Also also! The fact that you only have 68 subs is criminal! Here, have mine! 😁
Thats cool! Will check him out once i get home.
Will pronounce Schanche correctly next time haha
Thanks for the support!!
Excellent video, very well made!
This is the best Rallycross video I have ever seen, and while I respect the details, the joker laps wouldn't come to be until the early 2000s :)
Still, great work. You've certainly earned a subscriber.
Damn that makes a lot of sense… was struggling to find some of the jokers haha! Good catch
Superb video. How about doing one on the group B Cars that went on to do Pike’s Peak hillclimb?
Good idea! Will look into it
Great video now I'm interested in rallycros
brilliant video mate!
3.08 I own the 911 Matti drove there. It used a 2.4 RSR turbo engine, Audi gearbox and BMW diff which are gone. But Matti built this before the 959 was developed and he even raced it at Pikes peak. Its converted back to a road 911 some time in the 90's and is a patchwork quilt of a car. He sold it when the group B cars were for sale which were relatively cheap given they were state of the art at the time. Its worth noting the Group b cars have really poor brakes, any WRC car is faster. I have been considering converting it back to the Rallicross spec and yellow livery at some point and racing it again at pikes peak as it never finished.
Thats so cool!
Its funny you say that they had poor brakes. When researching the topic of underperforming, broken or difficult brakes came up quite a few times
Firstly, you really do need to brush up on your pronunciation of some of the drivers especially Schanche…! But a really great video, excellent footage of the old iconic group B cars strutting their stuff & their evolution in Rally cross after the end of group B in 86.
I remember watching these cars back in the day with fond memories, so much so that I have my own group B car in the garage… a tuned Sport Quattro…💪🏼 it’s no garage queen either, it gets used regularly… & gets a massive following wherever it goes…😎 Well done sir, keep on keeping on 👍🏼
How tf are you even supposed to pronounce that name? I've been an RX fan for years but still have no clue.
Whats that song in the beginning? Great video btw

Yes, that’s muffled “art of rally” music halfway through.

Rally-ING!!!! Stop this 'Rally' singular nonsense.
