  • Vangmar Vang came to Australia in 1971 from Laos, under the Columbo Plan students’ scholarship. He graduated from Flinders University in South Australia with a Bachelor of Economic and major in Political Science.
He had a goal to go back and develop the country but sadly the Nth Vietnam took over Laos in 1975. So he has remained in Australia ever since.
Vangmar is one of the Hmong students who fought hard on the Australian government to bring more Hmong refugees to settle in Australia during the Vietnam war in Laos.
He loves travel and probably was one of the first Hmong student to travel half of the world prior to 1974. He said travelling opens our horizontal and life perspectives.
He is married and has three adult sons, Koobmeej, Vamleej and Ywjpheej. He invested heavily in his children’s education and travelling to see the world.
He is retired now and resided in Melbourne.

I am so grateful that you (Pat) posted your husband’s very fruitful life experiences and beautiful photos in your TH-cam channel. Well done! Brother Vammab Vaj, the car accident was a terrible thing but God protected you and children. It must be a painful situation for your wife during the long days that you guys were hospitalised. I am sure she had learned a lot from this bad accident. No wonder why she is a very strong lady these days. I hope to see you and family in Switzerland soon. Best wishes. Yaj ThawjNyiaj.
