Glad you enjoyed Uluru … looks hot but you guys went at the peak of summer so the flies were at their worst unfortunately.! You made me hungry with all that yummy food!
I'll admit that I've climbed Uluru three times, once when I was 7 months pregnant, almost toppled over at 'Chicken Rock' because my centre of gravity was different! The view blows you away every time and the formations at the top ( and the fish in the pools) are incredible. Glad its been closed though. Haven't been there now for nearly 3 decades. I can't believe how developed it's become around the base and the roads are all bitumen! First time I went it was corrugated road all the way from Alice and took over 7 hours driving. We camped near the base. Yes, just like the Chamberlain's.
In 2019 we travelled 300km west of the rock to the boarder of WA, SA and NT. Beautiful country and because there is no light pollution the sky is another level again above what you saw at Yulara.
It's a beautiful place but goodness too hot to go in summer. Lucky you're used to heat. I think you needed some Aerogard for the flies. Kangaroo is for the tourists - I'm glad you seem to enjoy it. I'd say most Australians have never eaten it. Well done for travelling overseas when you're so young and fit. You'll have a lifetime of memories. I was in the west coast US many years ago and it was wonderful.
Fun fact there are little rock pools up on top of the rock that when it rains little fish hatch from eggs in the dust and swim in the pools ..how do I know we'll iv seen them 1983 you could climb to the top 😮
i climbed it signed the book up top and had a glass of champagne ...it was much harder to walk down than go up......and there were plaques with the peoples names who fell to there deaths.....
Just another part of our beautiful country which this 62yo Sydney sider has never been to, I've travelled all around the world but never been to the rock. I better call the airlines
If you looked on your backs there would have been around 300-400 flies resting. Swishing flies away from your face is known as an Aussie salute. If you ever watch a video of a guy in the outback talking, he'll wave his hand past his face 3 dozen times whilst talking as if it was the most natural thing in the World.
Hmm! I could NEVER eat kangaroo meat etc. as to me it is dog food. Only in recent years has it become available for human consumption. Previously only Aboriginal people ate it.
It would be a lucky dog to be fed roo. It is so healthy, very lean and tastier than beef in my opinion. Aussies have been eating kangaroo for decades. Kanagroo tail soup was commonly eaten way back in from at least the 20's according to my grandparents probably much earlier. It's best rare, gets a bit chewy if over cooked. I love kangaroo steaks cooked on a hot plate with olive oil and lots of lemon, yum. Most supermarkets sell it but you have to be quick because it sells out fast. It's really worth a try jayne.

Yeah...they deserve each other...perfectly matched on the tone deaf scale.

The Heart of Australia guys. The outback is just uniquely beautiful.
