This is realistic. R24T decided that the faster flying missile is the plane and the slower plane is the flare. IRL, this kind of shenanigan is precisely why the Chinese tuned down their PL-5's flare resistance.
the r-24T does what makes the PL5 so great but better. the issue is u only get 2 of them, and i would rather have 4x pl5 than 2x R24t. Thats not what this video is about though so 24 is #1
It was so weird using PL-5Bs for the first time (having already used the Magic 2s), dropping down on people who notice you and pull hard, but you also pull hard and put them at the edge of the extremely wide locking circle and somehow the missile still smashes into them.
The F-4J definitely deserves a spot in the camos list. Gaijin gives several great choices, either the grainy-as-hell default, the "shiny & metallic" Blue Angels skin which apparently sat in a scrapyard for years, or the top-quality "Evaluters" skin which also still has giant lazily mirrored text
I had a play with the R24T a while ago and its so much fun playing that different playstyle and lauching them from a good 5-10km above everyone when theyre usually on the deck once you've gotten past the phoenixes and such at alt

My longest missile kill in game was over 15km with the R-23T (15g at the time). Hit an F4E that ran back to his airfield, fired when he was still 4km from landing and waited. I watched the missile fly the last km at less than 200m/s so basically falling out of the sky
@@SeekerHead Tbf top 5's help people get a sense of how things perform relative to other things rather than an isolated focused video. Not saying that you can't achieve the same thing in a focused video, moreover that it allows for a better frame of reference in a top 5.

the R24T is effectively a BVR missile with a IR seeker for warthunders playstyle lmao. pretty damn hard NOT to kill with a R24T if you fire it anywhere other than directly infront of your target
The benefits of the R24T should apply to the Phoenix as well especially the C variant [smokeless motor variant.] The thing is just like a regular Phoenix but with a motor that would only be visible from way too close of range. Basically once the F14 got off the ground and the missile was launched, there would be no seeing it and therefore stopping it. So I think you would like it. The visibility window would be around the time the missile goes pitbull anyway. Also it would be on the F14B which is MUCH better than the A. Especially in the radar department.

4 PL5s are better than the 2 R24Ts you get in game. I still believe that. but this list is based solely on missile performance. And I said the same thing in this video i said 6 months ago that all aspect missiles aren’t that much more useful than non aspect in the way people might think. You pretty much get the exact same launch angles with rear aspect missiles (basically literally everything but directly head on) but all aspect allows you to do it from a little bit further away, which can be a big help
Would expect someone who makes a video of missiles in war thunder to know that the amount of "Gs" in the stat card is pretty much irrelevant other than as an extremely rough estimation. For example the snail recently changed the aim-9E so that it pulls much less than it used to, but it still has the same amount of "Gs" in its stat card. Otherwise a good video, keep up the good work!
I like watching you specifically because I usually dont agree with anything you say given the different taste in how war thunder is/should be. I mostly play sim and there it would be impossible to make this list without accounting for the plane launching the missile, given the very much reduced awareness that you have of your surroundings compared to air rb. For this reason the best missiles are indeed the radar guided ones, aim7f being the best together with the phoenix (because it doesnt alert your rwr). The r24 is less effective than in rb because you have no way of knowing who you're aiming it at and what's the distance, making the launch much harder in most circumstances, but it still is a very good weapon. Magic2 are very effective because they sit on the mirage2k that can easily slave them without the need to completely steer the plane on the target.
In sim I actually feel the MLD dominates with its abilities too spot a aircraft on its radar then quickly switch too irst too hunt with its irst and the r-24T. Most don’t even know they are about too explode

No missile would hit your Draken if you won't play it! I call it pro gamer move. (Now seriously. In most cases you need to pray to escape their range or out pull when either their motor is burning (they cannot pull that hard then) or when are on low energy. But how to judge if they have not that much energy whem most of the time you cannot see them...)
my list (not including r24) i would make aim9L first place, I've had some shots with it that no other missile in the game can do I've had people try to dodge aim9L in j35 and more jets and they never dodged it yet apart from this 1 time where it just randomly flew down but in my opinion AIM9L first place
I’d say Aim-9L is number 1. In my harrier I climb to 6000-8000 m and then turn on periodic flares then dive on the furball and launch my missiles and get plenty of doubles and triples and even quads. Harrier gr7 bullies everything in game… even without those missiles the guns are amazing too.
This aged like milk. The 9L like everything western was nerfed to the ground to the point the only time I get kills is firing rear aspect at a SU-25 just because their engines are so hot. Otherwise I hardly get kills with them unless someone isn’t paying attention. Smh gaijin
Yeah I never understood the thing with people when it comes to flaring the Magic 2. Like, it's not even that hard. Seeker Head even shows it in this video with the F-5 immediately flaring it. Also, something Seeker Head forgot to mention about the Magic 2 is that, just like the R-24T, you can never have more than 2. That's a pain in the ass in my book.
Oddly the aim 9H is one of the best missles I have used ir as is besides aim 9l I feel the 9H is just consistent and it feel like it pulls 23g instead of the 18 or something but imo it’s a decent missle
It is nice, but I often call it a “budget PL5” for a reason. Surprising range for how quick it’s motor burns out, but nowhere close to the PL5s range. And as you said, 10G less pull as well as a significantly worse seeker. I do quite like R13s, but they’re more of a middle tier missile to me.
@@SeekerHead I wouldnt say the range is that much shorter, i pulled many 4,5km shots with it. The seeker is pretty resistant to flares too, i had it sometimes straight up ignore the flare dumps.
The experience you get with the ranges has too many variables at play. There’s endless factors to consider when analyzing why this missile connected at a 4.5km launch versus this one not even making it to 3. I can tell you based off of pure numbers that the PL5 range is considerably further than that of the R13s. The flare resistance is rather similar though according to the files yeah

The R13 has a really small seeker head and you can't lead it as well for that reason, and the 20G pull hampers it even more. I would say it's in the 8th or 7th place, R60Ms are far better

Oddly, F-5C players have been getting dunked on fairly often head-on lately by R-60s. 1km away, upside down and I did it twice, and they either don’t expect it or they don’t have time to react. Idk 🤷🏻
AIM 9 L and R24 when it comes to IR missiles, in my opinion it’s still not worth it to use radar guided missiles it’s just way to finicky to use and often you die because of it. I have seen other TH-camrs mentioning the same issue. Hopefully if we finally get a new game mode radar will be more fun to use. Also I Hope that in the future the whole radar system gets better implemented and updated because right now it’s just too unreliable, even with the best radar systems in game currently.

I think these G-limits from the data sheets are misleading. G-force is combination of angling and speed. Therefore a missile flying M 2.5 w 25G turns tighter than some other missile w 30G at M 4.0. So i have a lot of fun with R-3R w 10 G at M 1.7 😁😉
Sideclimb and dodge them ar 2km then climb while the f14s get into a furball and then choose engagements, in mig 23 or any plane with fast acceleration.
9L is 30Gs unless its not in files??? 9L is nuts. PL5s are still good but I think its the way the J7E is played that makes them effective. (Like a rat diving from space). Id personally have to stick the 9H on here for the range and flare resistance.
9:40, starting in space isn’t needed. But I like to do it when I can. I’ll very often stay on the deck though as well to avoid 384727 AIM54s and get equally large success

@@spray916 That's not fair. You have maybe a one second window to pay attention and flare, when every other part of the dogfight you're in demands your attention. The thing accelerate so fast, pulls so hard, and arms so fast there's just no time to respond. Even if you do flare, there's no guarantee it'll work, especially if you do it half a second late. PL-5 isn't particularly susceptible to flares. IRL, the Chinese decided to intentionally tune down its flare resistance in order to avoid switching tracking to an enemy missile launched on route, because the missile thinks the new missile is the plane and the plane is the flare. It's still the meta missile for a reason - ppl just get more kills with it. It doesn't need to be the absolute best at any particular aspect, being meta is about having the optimum mix of characteristics that produce the most kills under the most circumstances.
that's the entire point. if somebody is paying attention, it doesnt matter what missile ur using, you wont be killing them. the best missiles are the ones that increase your odds of the target not paying attention. things like range, and motor burn time. Of course, tracking and pulling is important too, and the PL5 has all of these traits. depending on your altitude, 5km shots is still not uncommon with the pl5, even after the nerf. it has a supersonic 6 oclock range of roughly 3.5 km on targets, and at altitudes higher than 3-4k that moves up from anywhere between 4km-6 or even 7.

No, just like with any heat seaker missile. The only way the enemy can tell is if they have Missile warning on their vehicle or they saw the launch/motor trail.
brother, the R530E is not all aspect, it pulls just over half as many Gs, a whole lot slower, way less flare resistant (by a lot), and has a very long burn time giving people plenty of time to see it

I know this is just for overall performance of the missiles, not considering BRs, BUT: I think the aim9B is an amazing missile, sure it might be statistically speaking one of the worst, but it appears at such a low BR, most targets will be forced to turn and bleed a lot of speed. One of the best examples is the cougar, making amazing use of those missiles. I'm not trying to say that you should use them on your F-4C or whatever, but I wish people would appreciate that amazing missile more.

But, the Phoenix DOES show up on RWR. It even shows up on the Tomcat's RWR if you launch it too close.

I Like the AIM9b on the Milan, they are so Bad you dont need to Take them with you, means you are faster and can increase your gun aim ^^

Oddly, F-5C players have been getting dunked on fairly often head-on lately by R-60s. 1km away, upside down and I did it twice, and they either don’t expect it or they don’t have time to react. Idk 🤷🏻

Imo would've put the Aim9H at #5. The R60M is cool and all but in my experience getting hit from 7km away is more effective than a dogfight missile
im a big fan of the Aim 9L because from behind they are nearly not to counter

AIM 9 L and R24 when it comes to IR missiles, in my opinion it’s still not worth it to use radar guided missiles it’s just way to finicky to use and often you die because of it. I have seen other TH-camrs mentioning the same issue. Hopefully if we finally get a new game mode radar will be more fun to use. Also I Hope that in the future the whole radar system gets better implemented and updated because right now it’s just too unreliable, even with the best radar systems in game currently.

I think these G-limits from the data sheets are misleading. G-force is combination of angling and speed. Therefore a missile flying M 2.5 w 25G turns tighter than some other missile w 30G at M 4.0. So i have a lot of fun with R-3R w 10 G at M 1.7 😁😉

Sideclimb and dodge them ar 2km then climb while the f14s get into a furball and then choose engagements, in mig 23 or any plane with fast acceleration.

9L is 30Gs unless its not in files??? 9L is nuts. PL5s are still good but I think its the way the J7E is played that makes them effective. (Like a rat diving from space). Id personally have to stick the 9H on here for the range and flare resistance.
9:40, starting in space isn’t needed. But I like to do it when I can. I’ll very often stay on the deck though as well to avoid 384727 AIM54s and get equally large success
@@SeekerHead Sure, fair, but it also doesn't look like those people are paying attention. PL5 is a great missile but now days I think its a bit overhyped. PL5s no longer have that 5km range which made them incredibly funny missiles.
@@spray916 That's not fair. You have maybe a one second window to pay attention and flare, when every other part of the dogfight you're in demands your attention. The thing accelerate so fast, pulls so hard, and arms so fast there's just no time to respond. Even if you do flare, there's no guarantee it'll work, especially if you do it half a second late. PL-5 isn't particularly susceptible to flares. IRL, the Chinese decided to intentionally tune down its flare resistance in order to avoid switching tracking to an enemy missile launched on route, because the missile thinks the new missile is the plane and the plane is the flare. It's still the meta missile for a reason - ppl just get more kills with it. It doesn't need to be the absolute best at any particular aspect, being meta is about having the optimum mix of characteristics that produce the most kills under the most circumstances.
that's the entire point. if somebody is paying attention, it doesnt matter what missile ur using, you wont be killing them. the best missiles are the ones that increase your odds of the target not paying attention. things like range, and motor burn time. Of course, tracking and pulling is important too, and the PL5 has all of these traits. depending on your altitude, 5km shots is still not uncommon with the pl5, even after the nerf. it has a supersonic 6 oclock range of roughly 3.5 km on targets, and at altitudes higher than 3-4k that moves up from anywhere between 4km-6 or even 7.
@@SeekerHead I can't help but feel Gajin's nerf may not be having the intended effect. Wouldn't making people launch closer to target give the target even less time to react?

No, just like with any heat seaker missile.
The only way the enemy can tell is if they have Missile warning on their vehicle or they saw the launch/motor trail.
Unpopular opinion: R-3S is the best missile.

brother, the R530E is not all aspect, it pulls just over half as many Gs, a whole lot slower, way less flare resistant (by a lot), and has a very long burn time giving people plenty of time to see it

I know this is just for overall performance of the missiles, not considering BRs, BUT:
I think the aim9B is an amazing missile, sure it might be statistically speaking one of the worst, but it appears at such a low BR, most targets will be forced to turn and bleed a lot of speed. One of the best examples is the cougar, making amazing use of those missiles. I'm not trying to say that you should use them on your F-4C or whatever, but I wish people would appreciate that amazing missile more.
When you fire PL-5B at planes at its BR, they don't get to bleed speed, they just die.
