Just got mine yesterday, I love it when the engine start up already sold, went out test drive it not even 1 mile trun around and buy it, only spend hour and a half at the dealer. Can't stop smiling on my way home, my son sit next to me keep giving me the wired look😂😂😂

This car is gratuitous. That's the best word I can use to describe it. Nathan summed it up nicely in this video. It is a FUN car, not a serious, track-focused car. It's something you want to drive all the time because, not only is it fast and sounds great, it also is very pleasant and smooth. Long live the naturally-aspirated, V-8 powered, compact sport sedan.

The engine is great, but the car itself is not competitive at all! These get smoked by 340i, Q50 RS, and G70 3.3. Sure, those are turbocharged sixes but still... Lexus could've done a lot more with it, at least with the tech and the packaging given the price point.
@@philhenderson3516 It absolutely is competitive. Here are some of the 0-60 and 1/4 times of it's competitors and the Lexus taken from zeroto60times:
Lexus IS 500, 0-60: 4.3s, 1/4 mile: 12.7s
G70 3.3, 0-60: 4.6s, 1/4 mile: 13.1s
Cadillac CT4-V: 0-60: 4.5s, 1/4 miles: 13.1s
Infiniti Q60 RS400: 0-60: 4.5s, 1/4 miles: 13.1s
MB C43 AMG: 0-60: 4.1s, 1/4 mile 12.6s
Audi S4: 0-60: 4.2s, 1/4 mile: 12.8s
BMW M340i: 0-60: 3.8s, 1/4 mile: 12.3s
Obviously, these can all vary depending on model year and conditions, and some of them are priced lowered than the Lexus, but it's very clearly a competitive car. It obviously loses points in driving dynamics, especially compared with the BMW, Genesis, and Cadillac, but it claws its way back in terms of comfort, reliability, and that NA V8.
The interior design is clearly very 2014 (cause it is), but it's just fine, not really offensive (unless you just want to be offended), good materials, and functional. Not the cars strongest selling point, but it's just fine.

@@rousseau327 It's not a bad car by any means but IT DOES NOT warrant the price tag. The competition excels in pretty much every category except in the powetrain department which is debatable, as it'll be based on preferences. I'd obviously take a V8 over a V6 turbo anyday but not in an antiquated package. Luxury shouldn't have to compromise, especially if they're charging a premium over the others, period.
Would I pony up the money? Hells-Yeah I did. Got it for 2022’s MSRP ($62K), phoned in my deposit, flew out to OKC the next day, and drove it back to the ATL. The IS 500 is not the best sports sedan, but it literally does everything WELL. Plus…I’d argue it’s the best looking sedan on the market today. Thanks for posting! ❤👍🏽💙🙏🏽

It’s such a great car. I’ve had a LOT of cars. But I literally look forward to going downstairs, hopping in my 2023 IS500 and driving anywhere…nothing like it. And I traded an LC500 for it…

@@edxonandrade877 Literally the luck of the draw. I was in contact with 4 or 5 dealerships that only sold at MSRP. (You have to be very eagle eyed though, some will play fast and loose with the definition of ‘MSRP’.) And be willing to travel out of State, good luck!

I would take the emotion all day, every day of this V8 powered beauty over any soulless Tesla or other EV.

You know, I'm willing to bet that the V8 engine will Outlast just about every other inline 3,4 or 6-cylinder out there simply because they were built strong to last long

Any engine can be built to last long. Building an engine to last long while extracting its maximum potential is the tricky part. In general, the higher the cylinder count, the more reliable the power output. More cylinders reduce the load on any one point of the bottom end. Unfortunately, packaging a V8 is tricky, as it is a similar length to a 4 cylinder, but additional width (especially in the case of dual overhead cam V8s, such as the Toyota/Lexus 2UR-GSE) makes it very challenging to place in a modern engine bay while keeping everything accessible and easily serviced. Old cars had 3 wires, new ones have more than I care to count, and that ultimately puts pressure on packaging. My dream is to live in a world where VR8 engines are the gold standard. An extremely narrow banked 8 cylinder would have the external dimensions of a 4 cylinder, could use a single head for both very close together banks to save engineering time on the timing system and manufacturing costs on the other lump of metal. As an additional note, cylinder deactivation technology is far more viable in narrow angle engines, as 2 banks sharing 1 head allows the deactivated cylinders to keep warm to avoid developing carbon deposits, as is common in many cylinder deactivation systems found in V shaped engines.

You have Mitsubishi's i4 and i6 that are still around today. I drove a Lancer with 998'900 km on it. And I know for a fact, it got over the million, as I was able to see this car with 000143 km on the odo. Also drove old fart Subaru Legacy's and Lexus LS400.
You can build everything to last. But there is a certain approach to that. An approach lots of makers don't want to go anymore. Lexus is still doing it, and it's why I respect them for that.
It will outlast 2 whole electric cars 😂😂😂

Just got this last week. It’s a mind boggling car. Had to get a custom exhaust made to add more oomph - this will last 300,000 miles like a Land Cruiser .
It better last, it’s old as hell.

I own GS430 from yesteryear with 300,000 miles on it. I bought it new and still hanging on to it just because it's got V8 (and intake, exhaust, suspension and bucket seat 😂)

It’s stunning. Gorgeous. Any performance disadvantage (mighty minor if it even exists) is overtaken by its overwhelming reliability advantage over all of the competition as well as its beauty and its fun quotient. I’m sold.
Seriously the only thing holding me back on buying this car is the money and the amount of time it takes for me to get that kind of money - I don't want to finance another car purchase so I'm saving everywhere I can specifically to get this car. I hope I can line it up in time before the cars go out of production, because this could conceivably be the last four door, practical daily car I would buy for love.
Just finance it for 60 months then pay it off later when you have the cash ! You only live once !
Counterpoint: fender bender aside there's no way this vehicle doesn't outlast the finance terms and doesn't maintain its value long-term.
I appreciate the feedback and advice, but it's a personal principle of mine to not finance a car anymore.

@@Arkeo36 Good choice on prioritizing your personal finances. It's a great car, but not worth it if you can't comfortably afford it. It's much better to wait until you can, even if it means it's discontinued and you have to buy it used at a higher price.

Gr8 review!!! Terrific car for the money! A fire-breathing, sporty, luxurious TOYOTA! V8 Lexus cars will become highly collectable. While not the fastest spec in the world, they do trigger endorphins in an unexplainable way. Cars like the IS500 are an emotional purchase, but are actually a smart purchase because of the Toyota / Lexus reliability.

I waited a year and a few months I have the IS500 ultra white there is only 4 in the entire state of Hawaii where I live. I enjoy it very much the drive experience is definitely worth it.

I bought mine in Aug 23, got it in silver with a white interior and wanted the stock Enkai wheels instead of the optional BBS wheels which you have on this car. I love mine as its quiet and relaxing in Eco mode but put it into Sport+ and it becomes a beast. I'm averaging 19.5mpg and happy with that with my occasional heavy foot. It should last as well being a Lexus.
First time I heard the 64 price, I thought you meant 164, but no you really only need $64K, that’s the best consumer advice I have heard in all of 2023🤗

Dying breed indeed. Just like two door AFFORDABLE cars, V6 engines, V8 engines in everyday cars, and the theft deterrent manual transmission. I grew up and lived in the hood. Beside my late grandfather and late uncle, I’m the only one in the family that can drive stick.😅
I'm torn between this and a M340i but in the long run the is500 will be the better option because of reliability and cost to own
That screen in place of the gauges cluster on the M340i is so awful looking. Its an eyesore especially the cheap plastic brackets they put to hold it in place. The IS500 is sweet inside out.

If I was going to spend $64k on a car, it would definitely be this. But I bought a Camry because realistically, I'm just going to work most of the time, and I'll be stuck in traffic.

I bought a 2023 infra red with white interior. Love it. It is sexy looking, the paint is breath taking in person, comfortable and the engine sound - my kids love it. It will be my Gran Torino for my kids. It’s perfect for me.
I admit to being a Lexus fan boy. This is going to be my next car! Watching this video reminded me of the song red barchetta by Rush.

Nice car. I was considering this car but I went with the BMW X3M competition which is faster and only so the Inline 6. The Lexus V8 are nice. Love the paint too and I’m sure it will be very reliable. Because where I live, AWD is a must so I went with the bimmer.

So much blathering about the price. It’s a Lexus, the price is the price, and @ around 67k for a legendary natural asp. V8 that will last forever that’s a deal. Limited production, high demand, magnificent engine, this is the Rolex of compact sports sedans. Only a few will be able to own one. If I didn’t already own a 2013 ISF I would order one today, though a good deal on a trade might change my mind! Keep your turbo Benzes and BMWs. Lol.

I really really love what i see of this car.
I would not however trade my white 2016 atsv coupe (zzp exhaust..295r 18 pilot ss rear tires...Wow!)for it. You can now get a 16 to 19 with low miles for less than 40k as a shopping option..
Mfp loaded at the time was 75k. I bought mine 3yrs ago for 38k..32k miles.
I have other toys so i seldom drive it .. 40k miles.... and it is still a show stopper.
Looked at this car and it is sitting at the dealership. I looked at the I350 and these cars are port and direct injection and it is coming home soon. I can’t wait.

Late to the party, but I absolutely would. We'll see what my bonus is this year, lol. Or maybe I'll grab one used if I can. I was a Buick driver, and the last Buick I loved was a Park Avenue Super from the 90s. It was my first car. I didn't realize how special it was or I'd never have gotten rid of it. Now I'm a Lexus guy because I want something reasonably fast and comfortable and my friends, if you've never taken a 90s boat to a track and just stretched it for all its worth, you're missing out. I want a comfortable car with GO. I do not want an SUV, I want a *car.* And I'm mad at Cadilac because GM sacrificed buick innovation so many times to neuter the brand. Remember the GNX? Killed for corvettes. Toyota isn't competing with itself when it makes Lexuses. So they're able to roll stuff like this out. Buick is dead, long live Lexus.

Seats are perfect fit!! No need to make them any bigger or wider. Bolsters hug perfectly holding me in the seat when cornering.
4 door v8 the only other option is dodge with a 5.7 or 6.4 thatll run you the same or up to 25k more, where the build quality ,fit ,finish and options will be less, similar performance and more likely to be stollen, I would pay 59 to 64k for the is500 in a hart beat.

@@ARentz07 I'm in Miami :( He said a few month's wait and 10 to 15k over sticker. I wasn't that interested so I left it at that.
@@robbielex Next time, you can try phoning in other areas in the country, Miami is a hot spot, so even if the IS 500 isn't exactly a GT3 in terms of desirability, it'll still be hard to get.

Man I really wanted one of these, well I still do. But to be honest the interior looks a bit cheap and the car care nut doesn’t like the transmission in it. It’s a beautiful car but I don’t think they’re quite worth their $66k price tag. I think my next Lexus might be the ES300h with the way gas prices are these days. But I will always be pulled to big V8’s.
