"The Velvet Rope" is most definitely Janet's best album to me. My all time favorite from her. Absolutely no skips, her most personal work, and I loved her looks during this era. The red hair and septum piercing was everything. Great video.
My favourite is Janet. I love the vibe of it however I could lose the snippets in-between the songs. My second favourite is rythm nation im a huge prince fan and it sounds a bit like a prince album. My favourite song by her is Any time, Any place.

What a fun video. I gotta say… 20 YO was a great album and really a celebration of R&B music and you can most definitely hear the JD and Atlanta influence. My personal fave is The Velvet Rope… with Janet a close second. She is a true Artist and innovative.

None of your top picks would've happened without the massive success of Control and Rhythm Nation, which should definitely be the top 2. One possibility I'm also guessing is that you were either not around or too young when those albums initially released (1986, 1989)? Control and Rhythm Nation were not just phenomenal albums but were complete game-changers in the pop music industry.
While the legacy of both albums in Janet’s career and pop music at large is undeniable, this list is based on my personal preference at the time of making this video. I didn’t do the ranking thinking of which albums had more impact, but simply what I like. I do agree with you that being around at the time of release influences your connection to certain albums. I grew up in the 90s, hence why I connect more to her 90s albums.
Very nice look at the albums! I wish more artists did 12" picture discs. I have Janet's Alright UK 12" picture disc I bought when it was released. I know the quality of the sound can be affected but it's a great thing for collecting. Madonna was the one who really went for picture discs for her singles. I have Madonna's "Music" UK 12" picture disc single too. Great collection you have!
