This is the kind of boat project most DIY folks will not get into…and from the time and effort you both have in it - we can see why! Your devotion to the project and saving the boat is wonderful! Regards.

Hi thanks a lot for this comment! We really do want to go through all the steps to make her sailing again. We knew this would be harder than with our last boat. Although we started the renovation with a small but good experience and knowing the craftsmen in the hard here who we can rely on when we really need them. Plus we got to say how helpful it is to read all of your comments, this little group of you guys who write every time.. it does help the motivation to keep going. Thanks and see you next time.

You may be really proud!!! It is amazing how you keep on going while being so exhausted!

Thanks so much! We really wanted this step to end though. Melting and pouring the lead was really cool, we enjoyed this part very much. When you think about everything else that remains before saying « good to go », that’s when you want to move forward to the next part and get done with it. But this was a once in a lifetime so cool experience! See you next time..

Renovating your boat is a big challenge but to document your work in a language that is foreign to you makes your challenge even more remarkable.
I admire what you are doing and commit to following you as long as you create your videos.

Hi thank you so much for your comment. We do our best even of we still make mistakes in the Shakespeare’s language... But we have chosen so to be able to share this experience with people from around the world. So far we are really fulfilled reading such amazing and encouraging comments we have! See you in two weeks..

    ⛵️ ⛵️ ⛵️ Phil...

Some Fridays just means a little bit more of joy. I'm glad you've finished the keel project before this fuel madness hitted Europe. Did this project changed your approach to the steps that came after? It's always amazing to see how nevertheless so tired you can put your visual poetry in this videos.
See you in two weeks my friends.
    Salut

Hi Ronaldo thanks this is so nice ! Glad to enlighten your Fridays 😇 even if we didn’t planned first to make the new keel ourselves, we still have a plan for what’s next and we will stick to it. Plus we know that boat works just like any other kind of renovation projects always takes more time than usually planned! See you soon..

For more adventures in lead pouring see: Lead Pouring Disaster ( Tally Ho / EP 101 ), Chainsaw vs. Lead Keel ( Tally Ho / EP 114 ), Pouring A Lead Keel (Pt 1) ( Tally Ho / EP 117), (Pt 2) (Tally Ho / EP 118), (Pt 3) (Tally Ho / EP 119), Fitting The Lead Ballast Keel ( Tally Ho / EP 120), Bolting The Keel In (Tally Ho / EP 123). All on @Sampson Boat Co.
That is a great deal of work, but now you have a very strong keel. Take care and keep your most excellent posts coming.

Too bad you are not real time, so any advice comes too late, but a sheet of mineral wool around the keel and the melting pot would have helped. At just a few hundred degree C that stuff gets slightly colored, but still insulates well. Long ago I used it as heat protection for brazing. Visual poetry is a very precise description of your video style and I love it. :)

Hi thanks for this comment. Yes we couldn’t do another way than being a few months ahead of the episodes. We still do the editing in real time that allows me to introduce answers to comments we have. Or use the proper vocabulary! We will catch up with this along the incoming videos. Anyway thank you for the tip, always good to know for us or any other reader! See you for the next part..

Well done. Not sure I would 100 % trust the accuracy of the weighing device on a crane. Unless I am wrong the CAD drawings of the keel give you the steel weight on top of which you add the lead weight you poured in.

    • @sailingoriyo
      @sailingoriyo  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks! Yes we did compare the weight given by the crane to the known weight of the steel plus the lead. If I remember correctly we had a difference of around 200kg. But we had to skim the melted lead and weighted the rubbish removed for about 120kg. So we could estimate an error gap of 80kg which is minor.
      Take care..
