Thanks for the tips video. It's funny that you released this one when I JUST rolled an ALL spares game last week in league (9/28). I had ended game 2 with 5 strikes and a 9, so I started game 3 with my pearl reactive, then moved back into my solid reactive, then to urethane. All my shots were 9, and I made all my spares for a 190 game. Spares ARE important!!!
It's good to know that no Huis were harmed the making of the video. On a more serious note, thanks for the tips. I think I need to modify the way I currently aim for spares. Currently, for single pins 2, 4, 7, 3, 6, 10, I aim through 20 at the arrows, adjusting my feet three boards (left or right) for each pin in sequence. That works well as long as I don''t completely miss my target. But for pins 5, 8, 9 or combinations of pins that include 5, 8 or 9, I aim straight down the lane, with my feet seven boards to the left. That generally works for the single pins, but for combinations, even if I miss the target arrow by a single board, I could end up leaving a pin standing. I'll try opening up the angles even for pins 5, 8 and 9. Thanks for the tips.
@@th3bowlingtrio Hi again. When I watched the video previously, I'd been bowling for less than two months and had just one bowling ball (a weaker hybrid) and I bowled pretty much straight for everything. My release is a little different now and I'm able to hook the ball, but at the same time, occasionally I miss single pin spares cos the ball hooks late at times even when I try to bowl straight. I think I need to get a spare ball and I'm wondering about getting a Storm Mix or Roto Grip Retro RG Spare. Would you have any comments about either of those balls?
Thank you for the tips! What weight of the spare ball would you guys recommend? I feel like it could be a bit waste of energy if my spare balls are too heavy. I use a 15 pound ball as my strike ball. Thank you!
We use same weight as our first balls which is 15lbs. Having a lighter weight spare ball will affect timing, maybe you could find the lightest 15lbs spare ball to drill :)
@@th3bowlingtrioah I see! Thanks for the advice. What about the choice of ball weight in general? Is there a guide to choose how heavy the ball we should use?
I can throw a 16lb ball for 3 games, but I went down to 15lbs when I started throwing more longer format tournaments. I can maintain more consistency across more games with a lighter ball.
Ehh, not really. Spare shooting is only 1/3 of the equation. There are three things you need for a 200 average, statistically: 1) Strike rate of at least 33%. It is POSSIBLE to run a 200 average with less than this but that means your spares will need to be nearly perfect. 2) Two opens per game at MOST. It's possible to run a 200+ average with 2 opens per game or higher but that means your strike rate needs to be even higher, well over 66%. 3) First ball average of at least 8.9. This is why most RPM dominant players can average 200+ with a limited arsenal. They leave A LOT of splits but also strike at least seven or eight times a game. Now yeah, if you're striking half the time and your average is still under 200 then yes, that means you need to work on spare shooting. For most this isn't the case. For most they just need to strike a lot more.
loving the top tips from th3bowlingtrio😍
Hahaha thank you so much for your support!
Thank you! Cherri I used your second example pin 7 line and angle and it really helped.
Glad it was helpful!

Everything happens for a reason 😆 190 with all spares is a very good game, well done!!! Thank you for sharing this story.
Thanks. Never give up.
Thanks for these valuable tips
You're welcome!

@@bhartissimo They are pretty much the same ball so either one would be great. They would definitely go straighter than a reactive.
@@th3bowlingtrio Thanks. So I guess it really depends on whether I want the retro look of the RG spare or a ball with a scent. 😁
i struggle a LOT when there is a wall on the pair...why i never think have a 2nd system😅 thanks for the great tips!
Happy to help!

@aarontan5477 You can ask your pro shop operator to find an ideal weight for you.

I have such a hard time hitting my spares.
Are you throwing too hard at your spares?
Every little bit helps!
That's true
😂hui face
hahahahaha 🤣🤣
id be averaging 200 if it wasnt for my awful spare shooting
