I've had my 560 for almost 3 years come July. The sheet metal inside the hopper, where the coals sit and burn, has melted away, and now the firebrick is exposed, 1/2" thick wall of it, which could be easily scrapped off when the coals are moving inside. Masterbuilt needs to install a thicker gauge wall. The insulation is not even compressed inside either. They will not replace it for you, i've already tried that process with them and i was shot down. Here's the response you'll get from them. Just a heads up to you all. Hope this helps. Other then that, i love the product. Best smoker.
    Hello,
Thank you for contacting customer support
In the Gravity Series Hopper, your fire is contained to a 6” - 12” area that is reinforced with a food-safe soft ceramic firebrick to handle the higher temps in the lower portion of the hopper. The ingredients used in the ceramic are food-safe allowed for use in food or as an indirect additive used in food contact.
The metal plates in the lower portion of the hopper hold the firebrick in place and protect it during shipping. They are not necessary for the grill to function as they are meant to be temporary, as they will burn out and drop into the ash pan. In our testing, we’ve seen firebricks last multiple years. You do get some initial firebrick degradation during burn-in and initial usage, but then degradation tends to stabilize.

I have an 800, overall I like it. But, beware of damage to the inside of the firebox from heat. My firebox has a hole on the outside wall that burned through to the insulation. The grill is less than a year old and has been used maybe ten times.
I had to buy a stainless steel insert made by LSS mods to prevent more heat damage.

I have recently purchased an 800. I see one area where Masterbuilt cheaped out on the construction. It has to do with where the power plugs into the unit. They have this little dangling plug under the tray. It has 2 little tiny wires going into the control unit.
Now picture this. You may have children or pets running around where you are cooking. It won't take much to rip these wires right out of the control unit.
What they should have done is have a jack installed in the control unit something like the 4 temp probes. That would have been a much better way of doing it.
I am going to modify mine, and install a panel mount jack under the tray on a little bracket.

This is the review I've been looking for. Up to date! All other reviews I've seen have been at least a year old. I needed something current to help make a decision.
Been trying to decide between the traeger ironwood 650, pit boss pro series 850, and the MB 800. I'm not much of a grill expert by no means and I was looking for something easy to do and something easy for my wife to do as well if I'm at work and want to putt a butt or brisket on overnight while I'm at work. I like the ease of use of the traeger and pit boss, but loving the versatility of the MB 800. Being able to charcoal grill, smoke, and griddle all in one unit is pretty awesome. I kept seeing the issues with the power cord and control unit in other reviews. Good to see they've improved the cord. Hopefully the control unit has been updated as well. Thanks for doing this review. Will continue to research and hopefully make a final decision by this weekend.

Buyer beware: I purchased a 560 model instead of a pellet grill and have temp and Bluetooth issues. Don't get this wrong problems with anything you buy but their is no product support no 800 number to Call and no support if you have problems . Their reasons for help is threw Is numerous emails and it's always 3 to 4 days to get a response and they answer the question with a question. This grill I have is 4 months old it was a gift from my kids and used 5 times and I can live with no Bluetooth but the cook chamber temp is off by 30 degrees. I was sent a new prob and it worked for two times but its doing it again. The online registration is no good they want 3 pic of the problem when sending it is rejected to many gigabytes like its impossible to register it and again they only communicate threw emails and takes forever to get help or the right help. Just saying if you spent 500 to 600 dollars on a grill make sure you have product support masterbuilt has none. So my kids took it back and bought a pellet grill that has good support. Go with the trager or the pit boss but don't by the masterbuilt. Good luck

Interesting video. A couple of comments:
-They sell a 800 MB at Costco for $600 without the griddle attachment. To me, switching out the manifold and grates is too much trouble. I don't get griddles for outdoors. I can do that inside.
-I have my 560 power cord attached with a zip tie under the left shelf and use an outdoor extension cord to it making the cord included pretty irrelevant.
-The Costco 800 has different upper racks than the 800 in your video.
-The charcoal grate on the original 560 sucked and wasted too much charcoal. The newer grate is much better and I think it is included on both newer models.

    • @AndersonsSmokeShow
      @AndersonsSmokeShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I noticed the grate at the bottom of the hopper is much better! A couple other people made similar arrangements with the power cord, but it would’ve been nice if masterbuilt just made a better cord lol. That is because unfortunately here in the Netherlands the masterbuilts are priced different, the 560 is here on sale nog for €399 (from €599), a masterbuilt 800 sets you back €800. The price gap is just too big. especially given that i am capable of making a few modifications myself.

For anyone who is buying a master built beware because I received one in a box that was totally destroyed and re-taped and yet I did not get any type of open box or damage discount.
Then to top it off there is no telephone number to call and they force you to contact them online. This mean they can take up to a week or more to get back to you or even if you need a replacement part.
If I could do it again I would buy a different brand or one that I can get at a store that is easily returnable

    On the 800: In r/t the Griddle & Rotisserie…
Did the genius’ at MB really think it thru; by ensuring both accessories have a convenient/easily accessible place (under or along side of the grill) to store them when not in use?
…or does it feel more like their decision to include the Griddle was an afterthought?
Reason being: The rotisserie kit (that was “designed”) for my current grill is nice & I’ve enjoyed using it a few times; but, I stopped using it a long time ago for 2 reasons…
    1. It’s not quick/easy to put on/take off + interferes w/ cooking space & grill functionality when not in use.
    &
    2. When not in use, the spit rod doesn’t fit underneath, nor is there a good place for it. So, I have to store it inside (along w/ other rotisserie parts) & parts inevitably go missing when I do actually want to use them.
So, now it’s just collecting dust somewhere.

I like that the 800 comes with the griddle option but here is my question. Since the 1050 can also hit 700 degrees, could I just put a griddle on top of the bottom rack? Also, I have read some people state that the bottom rack is only for grilling and that the middle rack is for smoking - is that true? TIA!

I happen to own the 800 and I love it. You can smoke on the bottom rack. I’ve made plenty of briskets on it and came out perfect. Also you cannot add a griddle to the 1050 because the 800 comes with a separate internal piece that you swap out that directs the heat straight to the griddle. The 800 has been a beast and everyone always ask me about my grill. Best Buy in my opinion

I sure hope this video didn’t warrant a purchase of this pos for any of you. Most of these videos are influenced by Masterbuilt with free demos and promotions, etc. and Masterbuilt does a fine job of filtering any comments or negative posts. I have a 14 month old boat anchor of a 1050. First the switches, seals and temp controller will die, after your 1 year warranty is up you’ll notice that your firebox completely burned away. You’ll also learn from customer service that this is to be expected, but their research team has determined it would be years before this has happened, so you’re just SOL. I challenge any of you who have owned one of these longer than a few months and several cooks to let me know your unbiased experience.

A question as someone about to get one of these. My favorite thing to smoke is brisket. My concern is this: a brisket can take me 15-16 hours of smoke time to get through: am I able to top off charcoal/wood chunk while the grill is running the way I can with my pellet smoker, or will the air flow cause all the charcoal to go up?

    • @AndersonsSmokeShow
      @AndersonsSmokeShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You can add more charcoal and wood as it burns down. It will cause a little fluctuation as more airflow is introduced, but it won’t be detrimental. You would only need to fill it a second time for a brisket… maybe 3 times depending on how far you let it burn down the first time

I looked at an assembled new 560 at Home Depot, and the heat defector already had rust on the top welded end... which is not encouraging for a never used unit. The other floor unit did not. I was sent a new prob and it worked for two times but its doing it again. The online registration is no good they want 3 pic of the problem when sending it is rejected to many gigabytes like its impossible to register it and again they only communicate threw emails and takes forever to get help or the right help.
