    Thank you very much for doing this test! I'm currently in my third year with the MB560, and have really enjoyed the food coming from the grill. I smoke, barbecue, sear, a bit of everything with it, many recipes coming from your channel. It is showing some age and I anticipate replacing it within the next year or so. The Woodwind Pro is on my list of candidates. Thanks again for the time and energy you put into your videos, they are great!

    THANK YOU for giving the gravity smoker some love. I have had nothing but positive experiences with my 1050. I've had zero issues with the electrical, so I consider myself lucky. I've modified mine with a new thermometer and a blend between Klotes Mods and LSS Mods.

      It's time for an upgrade... I've been hoping the Woodwind Pro would make it's way to readily available in Canada before I buy this spring but it's not going to. I've honestly been happier with the results I get from my old Bradley with the Auber dual probe PID controller than anything I've had from the Traeger one of my friends has but the Camp Chef looks like it could change that with the smoke box.

    I've been cooking on a MB560 for about 5 years and it has been great. The WIFI went out after about a year and this year the temp control went. I have just ordered parts and will rebuild the grill and see if I can get a few more years. This smoker makes brisket sooo easy. 2 minutes to light, set the temp, smoke for 4 hours, wrap the brisket then just let it coast until its done. Fill the hopper at around 6 hours and that's it. I would definitely put in an after market fire box liner, and I put a piece of expanded metal on top of the fire grate so the coals last longer, oh and reduced the size of the smoke exhaust. The controller and fire box are the weak points but they are not hard to overcome.

    Love my 1050. Makes amazing food, whether smoking or grilling, but it's already falling apart after a few years. I had to rig the drip pan assembly back on with some self tapping screws. The charcoal chute had holes i had to fill with high heat caulk, and now the connection from the chute to the cooking chamber is going. Wish someone would build a recteq quality gravity feed smoker/grill. I feel like the WW pro is a fancy designed smoke box/tube. • @miahzzeebest701

    The woodwind looks a lot dryer. You guys probably should’ve added some beef tallow or butter to keep the internal moisture. The master built tri-tip looks more moist but still a bit dry. I do prefer the outside color on the woodwind but I’ll take the master built smoke ring every time. Still both are awesome smokers.

    • @Heygrillhey
      @Heygrillhey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were both kinda dry. It's hard to find tri-tip around here that has been butchered well with a good fat cap on it. Smoke ring is just for looks. It gives no indication of flavor level at all.

    • @pitis2flie
      @pitis2flie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want tri tip to be moist and juicy you have to cook it to medium or medium rare. Cooking it like a brisket is fun once in a while, but is drier, probably because it’s a leaner cut than brisket. Here in California we’ve always cooked them to medium done at most for as long as I can remember. Here in CA tri tip is king.

  • @44landin
    @44landin ปีที่แล้ว

    competition pellets from who?

    That is an absolute terrible thing to do to a Tri-Tip. It doesn't have enough fat for that kind of cook. Looked really dry. I guess with enough beers I could choke it down.

    I don't understand this cook. It looks like at best, you'd get the results of a massively overcooked brisket flat....

    Next time, try the pellet smoker with just pellets and not the smoke box.

    Way overcooked for tri-tip, which can make it dry and tough. Cooking to 200 degrees is too hot and even 180 when wrapped was already overcooked. Much better smoked to medium-rare (130-135 degrees). It should not be smoked like brisket.

      Nah. It's phenomenal either way.

    royal oak charcoal pellets and your choice of wood, then royal oak in the master built with what ever wood you choose

  • @MrJunglebear1
    @MrJunglebear1 ปีที่แล้ว

    So it's not a fair test it was a dud, you want to test the two cookers against each other than you use royal oak pellets for the pellet grill and the same in the gravity feed, salt and pepper the meat and nothing else then run the test otherwise it's a joke and nothing more

    • @Heygrillhey
      @Heygrillhey  ปีที่แล้ว

      We fueled them as closely as we possibly could. Since the gravity fed can't use pellets, it didn't get any pellets. As far as seasoning goes, it doesn't matter what you season it with as long as it's the same between the two. Which we did. It was as fair as we could get it.

    • @MrJunglebear1
      @MrJunglebear1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Heygrillhey royal oak makes pellets that are supposed to be made from charcoal, and royal oak makes briquettes and lump that work in the gravity , the question is , which cooker can impart the most flavor without enhancements , using the same fuel and minimal seasoning , like just straight salt and pepper
