  • Well before your baby learns how to walk, they need to be able to pull themselves up into standing. Once your baby learns how to stand up, your little one will start to play in standing, then cruise along furniture and finally walk.
There are 3 simple activities you can do with your baby at home, which will help them develop the strength and coordination needed to get themselves up off the floor. In this video I show you how to do these simple activities so your baby can learn this vital skill and get one step closer to taking their first step.

Hi Emma, I love the fact that you are here for us especially those of us that are first time mommies. So my baby is 8months and she is still not crawling. I see she's trying to but she's still not getting it and I'm worried but at the same time she holds onto things and stand. Please what can I do to help her crawl or should I go ahead to teach her to walk?

Emma I have been following all of your videos and advice with my baby who is now almost 7 months old. The only thing now is that he has utterly shocked me and gone from sitting to crawling to standing independently (from squat position not pulling up. And doing this consistently with control) in the space of the last 3 weeks. Now I'm wondering if I should be encouraging cruising (which he hasn't done yet) instead of these activities? I'm scared he will be walking too soon! Thanks

Unfortunately she was diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip at 4 months and currently is in the Pavlik Harness. At 5 months old she now only needs to be in the harness for 16-18 hours/day, so she can do tummy time for longer again. After being in the harness full time for so long, my baby has forgotten how to roll over :( Are you able to do a video about Developmental Hip Dysplasia and tips for life after the Pavlik Harness? I might’ve missed it but I also heard we shouldn’t give babies a walker.

I don't recommend using baby walkers as they increase a baby's risk of sustaining an injury and if overused can delay development. I have a video on baby walkers which you might find helpful: th-cam.com/video/nG-8gvHamlQ/w-d-xo.html

My daughter's 14 months she cruises on furniture in a standing position. But, she hasnt tried standing alone yet. Everytime I try to help her she just leans on me.

It sounds like she is still building up her confidence and skills. It’s great that she is cruising. She just needs a little more time before she will move from cruising to standing without holding onto anything.
