I know you're not a birder but just curious on your thoughts on if you feel like you hear birds plentifully or are they more sparse as some are saying?
Great question! Most times the trail is surprisingly quiet. You don’t usually see or hear the birds except for morning and evening. It’s a weird thing.
Lisa, how do you like the Appalachian Trail Hike compared to hiking in the Grand Canyon??? I have been to Smoky Mtn National Park in Eastern Tennessee, but it doesn't come close to Grand Canyon, no comparison, I want you as my guide on the Mule Ride in the Canyon, CHEERS, see you next year in May or Sept 2024, Eric Burgeson, Chandler, AZ
Oh, they’re very different. With the AT being so long, there’s much variety in the environments. I do miss the northern section of that trail. But the Grand Canyon is amazing in its own right, of course!

Earl Shaffer said that on his last thru hike in 98 he noticed a big difference in bird songs
than his hike in 48.
