Taiwanese should appreciate that China consider them as Chinese and would not bring upon them miseries of a war. Unless of course the Taiwanese leaders chose to go hard on for independence, which of course the West, to see them destroy each other will force the Taiwanese leaders to go for it.
China says all the time they will invade Taiwan, if necessary. Taiwanese leaders won't "go hard" for independence, they are already independent of China and have no reason to say so, provoking invasion. Aside from that, the West doesn't want a war with China. Why would they?

Taiwan rise in semiconductors was under u.s license due to low cost of manufacturing. Now countries are offering billions in subsidies & USA is no different, between - south Korea , Japan & Netherlands, Taiwanese microchips is irrelevant. India is a ideal place for these 3 esp. Netherlands.
due to patent laws we simply cant make them as efficiently without breaking the law or we would be a great place to build chips and cpu parts. our small independent companies funded by huge military or commercial aviation is really the best we can do here in the US. Sure non patent chips like making an alarm clocks can be ideally made in those countries.
